This episode was basically split into two parts, the part spent on earth where we see Vegeta on vacation with this family and the part out in Space with Lord Beerus and Whis. The vacation part of the episode is really cute and shows Vegeta’s parenting style in contrast to seeing Goku’s parenting style last episode. Of course, there are other bits that cut to Goku training on King Kai’s island.
I realized during this episode that I’d never heard the Japanese voice for King Kai before. I have to say, it was a little jarring compared to what i’m used too in the English dub. Not bad, but just, really deep and not what I’m used too.
So the basis for Vegeta going along with his family on vacation was that he promised Trunks that if he could hit him even one, he’d take him to the amusement park. I have to say, for Vegeta, he holds himself together through the entire day pretty well. Bulma points out that he’s changed in some way since facing Majin Buu.
Which may be true, it may not be. Who knows? All I know is if I had more episodes of him being a father my heart might explode. I love the Briefs family way too much, Seriously, how cute are they? Vegeta snaps at Trunks that he doesn’t care about the shirt he’s wearing but in the same breathe tells him that he didn’t do the buttons up right. Also, not matter how grumpy he looks there are parts you can tell Vegeta is having a totally good time. Briefs family, family of the year. Also I wish I had their money.
Then we focus on Whis and Beerus and Beerus is having a hard time remembering a dream he had. So Whis goes to get him some dragon meat to kick his memory into gear, however, the aliens who caught the Dino first don’t wanna give it up. So Beerus blows up the entire planet. Because you don’t keep food from Lord Beerus.
While watching the planet explode he vaguely remembers his dream. The Super Saiyan God. So I’m going to say that this nulls the idea that Battle of the Gods is canon. Also, Bulma brought up her birthday this episode and while the preview for next episode wasn’t subtitled. I feel like that event might be happening next episode.
So like, are we going to have a mini arc meant to take the place of the movie? How will it differ? I mean,we basically have the same set up. Beerus wants to fight the Super Saiyan god, Goku is training with King Kai, Bulma’s birthday is coming up. It sounds exactly like the set up for the beginning of the movie minus that part where Beerus is sleeping at the beginning.
So on that note, we move into the next episode which I can only assume is Bulma’s birthday. I saw Android 18 in the preview! Also, if this is going to be similar to the movie. That means that Videl is pregnant, I wonder if that’s going to be the same for the series. We’ll have to see.

The author of the manga gave an interview a few weeks ago where he stated that Super’s first two arcs will be based on Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F (in addition to a bunch of spoilers about the third arc).
