A girl mistaken as a boy ruins property in a host club and is forced to comply with the popular host’s demands to pay off her debt. Sounds extremely familiar, right? The only difference? Haruhi had to actually join the host club. Hotaru, the main character of this show, joins a survival game team! Well that’s a lot more exciting, don’t you think? Now when the synopsis mentioned a game of survival, I thought this show was going to take some crazy turn and actually make it survival. Like real weapons and everything. But nope, it’s just BB guns. Which I’m actually fine with because that just makes things so fun. Also, I don’t have to worry about characters getting killed because I already like Hotaru and Masamune.
Hotaru is ridiculous. I don’t know what her deal is, but she’s some wannabe hero or something. She’s the type of person that follows the rules and is against bullies and crime. So, she’s like a hero of justice or something. Because literally the first thing we see her do is jump out of the window like three floors up and perfectly land in front of bullies harassing a student, and she spouts typical cliche hero lines. Again she does this when crashing into the host club. And she’s freakishly strong. She cracks the ground she steps on, she can dent walls, and she’s not afraid to fight. So as the student council president, she’s not someone to cross. She’s really like a hero, and that just makes her really silly and entertaining to me and I can’t help but laugh. Of course the main thing we know about her is that Hotaru is actually a girl and not a boy like everyone mistakes her to be. The only person that knows she’s a girl is her friend Kanae. Though it’s no one’s fault to think that as she wears the boy’s uniform, and she’s lacking in the chest department. Of course this becomes a problem later on when Masamune makes her join his team, Toy Gun Gun (that’s a really awful name), as he clearly said he doesn’t allow girls in his team.
Hotaru could have easily told him that she’s actually a girl, but then we wouldn’t have a show. Masamune himself is a pretty cool guy. He’s attractive and works at a host club, and he has really good perception or something and that’s thanks to the host club, which is why he’s so popular at his job. He seems pretty friendly, but when it comes to survival games, he can become a different person.
Survival battles. It’s a really popular thing currently, where people get into teams and participate in mock battles. Of course it’s all simple fun, as the bullets aren’t real. They use toy guns with BB pellets as ammo, but it can still be thrilling as it seems the players take it very seriously. Even though the guns are toys, there are still different kinds of guns. There are pistols, machine guns, snipers, all of that. In the scenes we saw, there were people in camo gear, making it look like a real war zone. Pretty cool! And from the fight we saw between Masamune and Hotaru, I’m expecting the battles to be animated as dramatically and epic. I didn’t think I’d get excited from seeing people shoot each other with BB guns, but I did. It may seem a little funny that the show is making the battles as serious as it is, but I just find it so entertaining. So far I’m really liking the characters, and I’m wondering whether I’ll like the other member of the team, Mr. Ero Artist. The animation for the battle was surprisingly nice. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed the first episode, as I only watched it because I just wanted to check it out and I wasn’t expecting much from it. But I really liked it, and I want to see more. Especially the battles. I want to see how Hotaru is going to be in the team as she’s new to this, and if the guys will ever realize she’s a girl, and whether Masamune will care or not. And I’m also expecting a little romance between Masamune and Hotaru because Hotaru’s mind always wandered to him when Kanae mentioned a hot guy.
I didn’t want to take too many shows this season because of my supposed plans I had, but I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere. I’m 75% sure I won’t. But even so, I don’t think it’ll hurt much to take on another show. But you know what does hurt? Getting shot by a BB gun. Once my brother shot me with a BB gun and I almost cried. Masamune shot Hotaru in the gut inches from her, and she barely reacted. She’s not human.
