This week we return to The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, with a brief recap of last episode through Yuki’s point of view. I still can’t say for sure if this is the main timelines Yuki, a different timelines Yuki, or if she’s just disassociated herself from her memories. The show for now is leading us to believe that the last one is the case.

The rest of the episode is dedicated to the other two adjusting to the ‘Other Yuki’ since it’s close to exams in the show, Itsuki and Haruhi are too busy to come and visit so again we have an episode basically made up of Yuki, Kyon and Ryoko. Ryoko is very worried about her friend, of course, she wants the old Yuki back but at the same time. She doesn’t want to completely reject this new one either.

The ‘new’ Yuki is scared that if she accepts that she’s abnormal, she’ll be alone. Which you know, I guess is a pretty legit worry, you’re living a life you know you’ve lived. You are this person, you know their friends and their day but it’s not you. If you accept this fact, that the person you are now is not you. It leaves you feeling completely alone, helpless, alien. [see what I did there?]

Kyon is told about all of this, his test to be sure it’s not the same Nagato? Asking her if he could borrow her game, when she said she didn’t bring it, he immediately knows it’s not the Nagato he knows. he’s worried of course as well, but he’s quicker to adapt and accept things then Asakura is. Speaking of Kyon and Asakura, there was a moment in this episode that made a nod to the original series that had me in stitches. As they were talking about studying for finals, Kyon says he envies the confidence of honor students like her. She says that there is a ton of stress that builds up in the background of that confidence.

Oh well, to make a long conversation short. She makes reference to stabbing him. Which she attempts not only in the series proper, but in the movie as well. I have to say I got a good kick out of this and it was a nice nod to series proper.

Ryoko you've stabbed him in enough world lines
Ryoko you’ve stabbed him in enough world lines.

This was just another one of those episodes where not a lot of things happened. Ryoko took Yuki to the hospital and they discussed that she may of disassociated her memories from herself due to the shock of almost being hit by a car. Kyon and Yuki study together, Kyon makes a promise to take her to the library. Now this is where I think the pacing will begin to pick up.

We know in this timeline she first met Kyon in the library when she first got her library card. It’s shown in the movie and hinted at multiple times in this series with Yuki’s flashbacks. That’s all there really is to say, next up, part 2 of the Disappearance of Nagato Yuki…please let something actually remotely interesting happen? At least having Haurhi and Itsuki find out about all this or something…
