Summer Season 2015 Notice
Eva: Due to my health condition, I will be going on Semi-Hiatus for the Summer Season. During this period I will be skipping out on the Summer shows and focus solely on the On-Going coverages that continue into the summer: Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V and Go! Princess Precure! Hopefully I will be able to make a full enough recovery to return for the Fall Season.
Berry: I have a little announcement to make myself. During the middle of July to the middle of August, I won’t be here as I will be out of the country. Probably in the week of July 15th to four weeks later I won’t have any internet access, so that means you won’t see me at all posting. I won’t be gone for good in the summer, just for awhile. However, it’d be best if I didn’t take too many shows this season. I’ll still be doing the joint-coverages of Ore Monogatari and Kyoukai no Rinne, but Oki and Hideki will handle the weeks I’m gone. I’ll be back in full gear for the Fall season.

Animation Company: BONES
Website: http://www.clarineskingdom.com/
Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Shoujo
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: The story of the original manga revolves around Shirayuki, a beautiful girl working as a medicine woman who has red hair, which is very rare in her country. When she is proposed and chased after by the prince of her country, she runs away, only to meet Zen, the prince of a neighboring country. Finding respect for the young man, she decides to serve at his side as his court doctor.

Vantage: I’m not overly excited, but I’ll try this out for Hayami Saori.
Oki: See this is the kind of show that could be good but I’m not completely sold on it? It seems almost too cutesy, but that might be good? Might give it a look but no promises here. The PV itself seems kind of bland.
Sidekick: I think I read a couple of chapters of the manga back when it first came out years ago. Looks like it could be a lot of fun, and BONES has a more than decent reputation when it comes to solid adaptations. Fingers crossed it’s good!
MidnightDevont: The animation looks beautiful but it really doesn’t look like my cup of tea, i’ll read the reviews and then maybe double back to it. However, covering is a NO. f
Berry: I was extremely happy with the last historical shoujo with a red-haired heroine, and this show looks so beautiful. I expect a lot of political and medical talk, and that really catches my interest. Probably out of all the shows this season, this is the one I’m most looking forward to.
Hideki: It sounds AMAZINGLY not interesting. Like….REALLY not interesting. Besides, I saw Dr. Quinn back in the 90’s. It was boring THEN.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu
Animation Company: Brains Base
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/aoharu/
Genre: Action, Comedy, Shounen
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: The manga follows high school student Hotaru Tachibana, a girl disguised as a boy. Through strange circumstances she finds herself drawn into the world of survival games by a host, Masamune Matsuoka. The two form a team with ero-manga artist Tohru Yukimura and aim to be the be the best in Japan.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: It’s Brains Base, but it’s also not really my sort of thing.
Oki: Normally I do research into shows to try and understand their premise . .. But I genuinely can’t understand what the fuck this show is trying to say it is? I genuinely have no idea. I mean. What?
Sidekick: Ero-manga artist? Cross-dressing? Survival games? Sounds like a real recipe for disaster.
MidnightDevont: So wait, there’s a trap, and a survival gameshow and Ero-manga….What now? I see a train wreck.
Berry: I’m curious as to why she’s dressing up as a boy. The survival game part caught my interest, so I’ll at least give it a watch just to see what the hell is happening.
Hideki: Oh my god. I am SO tired of “Girls/boys hidden as boys/girls in schools” animes. I do not like traps and never will. (only exception being I My Me Strawberry Eggs)
Aquarion Logos
Animation Company: Satelight
Website: http://aqlogos.com/
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Mecha
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: A new anime in the Aquarion series.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: I’ve never done Aquarion before. I might get round to watching EVOL this summer… actually, who am I kidding, of course I won’t.
Oki: I can always be persuaded to mecha but for some reason Aquarion has never been my kind of mecha.
Sidekick: GEEZ, THOSE CHARACTER DESIGNS ARE UGLY AS HELL. Thank god for the upcoming Aquarion EVOL OVA. That’s the only Aquarion series worth watching, as far as I’m concerned. EVERYONE ELSE GET TO WATCHING EVOL
MidnightDevont: Didn’t watch any of the other Aquarion series, didn’t care to watch them. Pass, pass and pass.
Berry: Never watched this series, mecha isn’t my thing.
Hideki: I have never trusted Aquarion…and I never will. I can never forgive them…for the death of my boy. (Stark Trek VI ref FTW)
Bikini Warriors (TV-Short)
Animation Company: Feel
Website: http://bikiniwarriors.com/
Genre: Action, Ecchi, Fantasy
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: Set in a an RPG-style world with swords and magic where adventurers form a party to challenge the demon king’s right to rule, adventurers all have beautiful breasts, enormous breasts, and bikini armor!!
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: I’m not feeling it, Feel. I can’t believe otaku fanservice pandering is what you’ve been reduced to after adapting something as deep as Oregairu. It’s like how Fire Emblem if will be having a face-rubbing minigame.
Oki: I’m kind of losing my shit at how ridiculous this is. I mean I love boobies and watching ridiculous shows but if I watch this it will really be to laugh my ass off at how stupid the premise is.
Sidekick: Literally truth in advertising, I see
MidnightDevont: ….I’m not sure if I should be laughing or crying at how absolutely OUT there this show is. Also, that girl on the poster. What is her boob doing? It’s like they drew it mid-bounce and it just looks kinda awkward…i’m gonna nope away from this.
Berry: Look…just LOOK at those girls. Breasts can’t bounce like that. They just can’t. That’s not how physics works. I almost failed physics, but I just know that’s not how it works. Also, YOU CAN’T GO INTO BATTLE IN JUST A BIKINI. YOU’LL DIE. THE ONLY ONE WEARING ARMOR IS THE BLONDE BUT IT’S ONLY HER ARMS. THIS IS JUST. SO. STUPID.
Hideki: This reminds me too much of Vanadis….and we all know how well THAT ended…..
Chaos Dragon: Se-kiryuu Sen’eki
Animation Company: Silver Link
Website: http://chaosdragon.red/
Genre: Fantasy
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: The story takes place in the sparkling era year 3015, where the great nations Donatia and Kōran divide the world in a cold war as they fight for supremacy. In the middle of this standoff is island country Nil Kamui, which has lost its independence.
Chaos Dragon is based on the role-playing fiction project Red Dragon, a story which was created by five notable character designers: Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero), Kinoko Nasu (Kara no Kyoukai), Iduki Kougyoku (Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou), Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!), and Simadoriru (member of the Stripe Pattern doujin circle). The results of their tabletop role-playing game sessions over six days created material for a seven-volume light novel series.
Trailer: PV 1| PV 2 | PV 3
Team Impression
Vantage: It honestly doesn’t look at good to me. Urobuchi, Nasu and Narita are big names, but I feel like recent anime projects have tried to hype themselves up by advertising themselves with a high-profile name, and thus letting fans down when their expectations fall short. A character designer doesn’t make a show.
Oki: This one is tough because the premise sounds good, it looks action packed, but the animation actually looks really bad. If you watch the PV many fight scenes just seem poorly animated! I don’t think I can handle that…but all the big names..shit.
Sidekick: I don’t trust game adaptations, and I sure as hell don’t trust Silver Link.
MidnightDevont: I think I might want to just take a first look at this one and make a decision, I don’t hate it, but i’m not sold on it either. Probably not gonna blog it unless the first episode blows my socks off.
Berry: I really don’t like the designs or the style. I’ll only check it out if other people say it’s good.
Hideki: I….will…see episode one…maybe?

Charlotte
Animation Company: P.A. Works
Website: http://charlotte-anime.jp/
Genre: School, Super Power
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: The story centers around the special abilities that occur among a small percentage of boys and girls in puberty. Yuu Otosaka uses his power without others knowing, and lives a fairly normal, average school life. Before him suddenly appears a girl, Nao Tomori. Due to his meeting with her, the fate of special power-users will be exposed.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: P.A. Works. I am not covering another P.A. Works show that airs in a summer season and involves the supernatural. I have to admit I’ve been following the announcements for Charlotte for some time, and I was very excited up until the point when they revealed the plot. I will still watch this, and I did think Shirobako was good, but my allegiance with regards to the ‘higher-quality’ anime studios lies very firmly with KyoAni these days.
Oki: The art looks incredibly beautiful but the premise needs to really get a grip. On one side of the coin there are those boring ‘one super special guy’ animes and then there’s the ‘super special ability users’ and the one guy who can just exist as he always has and that’s its own brand of super annoying special characters. I don’t know if I can get passed that.
Sidekick: UGH NO, GOD
MidnightDevont: I feel like Savage and I reviewed this exact same series, like I started reading the summary and was like “wait, did my prayers for a season 2 get answered?” but no, it’s just the same idea. I might give it a shot to watch, there is a glasses guy standing in the background…that’s enough for me to at least give it a shot.
Berry: The animation and music is wonderful, but I said the same damn thing about Glasslip and you all saw how that went. I lost faith in P.A. Works after that, but then Shirobako happened so now I’ll give this a chance.
Hideki: Wow. That description was a whole lotta NOTHING.

Vantage: It has a cool title?
Oki: I fell asleep reading this summary.
Sidekick: I don’t know how a series can be set in FUCKING OUTER SPACE and still sound this boring
MidnightDevont: -yawns and sleeps on Oki’s shoulder- …..zzzz….no…thank…you…
Berry: Okay it’s cool that the girl wants to be a pilot, and it’s cool they’re in space….but this sounds boring.

Vantage: This looks cute! I tend to watch a short or two every season, just because they’re easy to get through.
Oki: I hate cutesy moe x_x
Sidekick: I dunno, may be cute. It’s only a short so no harm in trying it out. The character designs are rather bland though.
MidnightDevont: First off, it’s a short which means it’s gonna be like what, 4/5 minutes? I had enough of that with Orenchi, I still need to double back and take a look at Rainy Cocoa. Soo, no thank you.
Berry: No thanks.
Hideki: I’m still watching Punch Line. I’m good.
Dragon Ball Super
Animation Company: Toei Animation
Website: http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/dragon_s/
Genre: Action, Adventure, Martial Arts, Shounen, Super Power
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: The first new Dragon Ball TV series story since Dragonball GT. The story is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when the Earth has become peaceful once again.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: I have something to confess: I’ve never properly watched Dragonball. I’ve only ever seen the odd episode here and there, but I’m sure its long-time fans must be excited.
Oki: I called dibs on this. But to be honest, it’s gonna be hella long, so I’ll back off from keeping a shotgun as long as someone will promise to share it with me. Hell, it’s gonna be long enough.
Sidekick: Never liked Dragonball as a kid, but good for the fans I guess?
MidnightDevont: THE HYPE IS REAL, DBZ IS COMING BACK BABY AND AKIRA TORIYAMA IS ON THE STORY WRITING BOARD SO WE WON’T HAVE ANOTHER GT! Okay seriously though, i’ve heard some rumors that the characters from Battle of the Gods will be in this, and let’s be totally fair. Funimation is totally gonna do a simuldub for this, if they didn’t i might die of a heart attack ala Goku in the Future Trunks movie. My only issues covering this will be I really, really can’t stand Goku’s japanese voice…can I cover the simuldub? lol, seriously though, i’d love to joint with Oki for this.
Berry: YES YES YES YES. YES. I’M GONNA WATCH THE FUCK OUT OF THIS. I’M SO EXCITED.
Hideki: If it doesn’t involve Raditz, I don’t care. Pass.

Durarara!!x2 Ten
Animation Company: Studio Shuka
Website: http://www.durarara.com/
Genre: Action, Mystery, Shounen, Supernatural
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: Second cours of the second Durarara season.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: I actually didn’t enjoy the second season as much as I did the first, for some reason. It was still fine, and ballpoint pen was a cool scene, but a lot of the… spark wasn’t there for me. I wonder if this cour can change that.
Oki: This one belongs to Midnight.
Sidekick: DRRR just isn’t my kind of anime. It’s something I would’ve enjoyed maybe a year or two ago, but it just can’t hold my attention now. I feel like it just doesn’t really do much with its kickass premise and characters. Not terrible though, except on a production standpoint.
MidnightDevont: Called dibs on this during the first part of it, going to keep calling dibs as long as it airs. I love this series and it’s one of the few non-funimation titles to be simuldubbed so WHOO, even Viz knows where the hype is at.
Berry: Haha I never wound up watching the second season. Durarara lost its charm for me, sorry. Shizuo and Celty are still the best.
Hideki: I HAVE NEVER CARED ABOUT DURARARA. OH MY GOD. STOP!

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! (Season 3)
Animation Company: Silver Link
Website: http://anime.prisma-illya.jp/
Genre: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Magic
Airing Date: July 2015
Summary: This will adapt the second half of the 2wei manga.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Team Impression
Vantage: This is mine by default. It’s time for Gil-kun, everybody! I’m still not sure why they didn’t adapt 2wei all in one go, but the one thing that’s changed between last year and this year is that I’m now fully up-to-date with the manga for 3rei. It’s truly a phenomenal ride and worthy of the Fate brand that backs it – don’t judge this book by its cover.
Oki: Once I knew what the hell this was it was a very cute addition to Fate, but it also feels like lies cause I know no one is really this happy.
Sidekick: The first season (the 2 episodes I watched anyway) was really gross, I’m sorry.
MidnightDevont: While I love Fate, I have yet to get around to watching the magical girl spin off. Which apparently isn’t as happy as it looks, so i’ll have to get to it someday. However, today is not that day.
Berry: I barely got into Fate now, but like seriously was this necessary? They’re seriously milking this series.

Sidekick: There’s only one absolutely ridiculous anime that actually matters this season, and it’s definitely not this (PSSSSST PRISON SCHOOL GUYS).
MidnightDevont: Wait….Wait….Wait…WHAT? NO, okay, i will cover this, JUST to see how absolutely rediculous it is! I don’t usually bite on moe shows, but i actually, have to see this! I need to see how they do this. I like, want this to air right now, so i can see. What they do with it, because, WHAT?

Until the day when a cop they know on the force requests their help in taking down a new gang muscling in on the territory of a top Mafia family. It seems like business (and mayhem) as usual, but the Handymen are about to find that this job is a lot more than they bargained for.
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2

Vantage: It kinda reminds me of Kekkai Sensen, which took me four episodes before I admitted it was really cool. This has got the whole snazzy, Western feel to it as well – but I’m not interested in covering it.
Oki: First thing I genuinely look at and go OOH THAT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING I’D WATCH! The Animation is kind of weird but I’ll give it a shot.
Sidekick: NICE. FINALLY SOMETHING COOL. Sounds a bit like Black Lagoon which I loved the hell out of, so hopefully this is just as, if not even better. I’ve also heard a ton of good things about the source material, so huzzah. Hopefully we’ll get a dub though?
MidnightDevont: Huh, it seems pretty cool looking but at least for now i’m gonna pass on it. I might double back and watch it later, but not now.
Berry: I’ve heard a lot of great things about the manga too, and the animation looks great. I’m always drawn to the shows that have more Western influences so this one looks like it’ll be fun. Plus, MAFIAS!

Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2

Vantage: I haven’t first season.
Oki: Don’t really know enough about Gatchaman crowds or feel interested in the summary.
Sidekick: Really didn’t enjoy the first season. CROWDS was just too goddamn preachy about its messages, and going by the synopsis Insight will probably be more of the same. Kenji Nakamura is a cool director though – his work is always visually interesting, at least.
MidnightDevont: What is going on in that preview?! There was a first season?! Who am I, where am I? AAAAAHHH!
Berry: GATCHAMAAAAAAAN~ I enjoyed the first season a lot, so I’m super excited about this season. I also can’t wait to see Hajime’s :> face again. Sidekick: This sounds like the next SAO/Mahouka. Count me out.
MidnightDevont: I’ve just never been much for military anime…no thank you.
Berry: This is just so strange. The two genres clash badly. You got military on one hand, and then straight up fantasy in the other. So a tank shooting missiles at a dragon with mages and elf girls? It’s just so weird, how does that even fit?

Vantage: I’ve read the first couple of chapters of this! It looks really good!
Oki: Did the creators of this anime just think, man, what is one of the most highly hot button nearly hentai concepts we can think of so we can then tantalize innocent anime reviewers to watch it? Well it won’t be me I tell you, there won’t be a single indulgence into this perversion even to laugh my ass off. Perverts.
Sidekick: Guys, Prison School is really hilarious. I really, really liked the parts of the manga I read. It’s also got Mizushima (OF SHIROBAKO, LITERALLY ONE THE VERY BEST IN ABSURD COMEDY) in the director’s seat, so depending on how the manga’s spectacular art gets adapted for the anime (I’m a little doubtful so far but we’ll see) we’re gonna be getting the second coming of Cromartie High School and maybe a little DMC (except a LOT raunchier). Aside from GANGSTA this is the only other series I’m really, really excited about. Also, how on EARTH did this get green-lit for an anime? How is this going to air on national television without being like 80% censored, since this is basically a H-manga? LET’S FIND OUT
MidnightDevont: This show looks….what…who…what, when….I’ll just, nope away from this.
Berry: Okay okay…holy shit. Okay. Listen. I’ve seen the manga all over my dashboard on Tumblr. I don’t know what the hell it’s about. All I know is that there’s an abundance of dick, ass, and titties. I straight up thought this was from some hentai or something. But apparently it’s an actual manga series. So I’m just sitting here like WHAT THE FUCK MAN. OKAY. FINE. WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT. BUT THEN I SAW IT WAS GREEN-LIT FOR AN ANIME AND I’M LIKE WHAT?! From the shit I’ve seen they’re going to have to censor 90% of the show because IT’S SO GRAPHIC. IT’S BORDERLINE HENTAI. PORN. ASS. AND. TITTIES. WHAT?! I’m soooooo curious to see why this series is so popular because people honestly think it’s funny because it’s actually a comedy too (what?!), but this show is soooo not for me. This is the exact opposite of what I watch. It’s just…I just….I DON’T KNOW.
Hideki: I…i’m not sure why this is a THING. It’s not going to be a thing i’m going to WATCH so…yeah…no thanks.

Vantage: You know when a beaker of liquid is saturated, and whatever you’re trying to dissolve into it doesn’t dissolve any more? You get ‘stuff’ that eventually settles at the bottom of the beaker and piles up. If the beaker of liquid is the anime industry, this is that ‘stuff’.
Oki: Literally as I researched this anime I was thinking ‘there is nothing interesting or appealing about this show to me in the slightest.’ Now that I have said that it will be amazing.
Sidekick: “Black Master Swordsman” SOUNDS FAMILIAR
MidnightDevont: I watched a small show about a retired military guy leading a all girls team, it was a small OVA called Meltylancer. Which while i like it, is not the best received anime ever, and this is just….yeah no.

Summary: Monsters: they’re real, and they want to date us! Three years ago, the world learned that harpies, centaurs, catgirls, and all manners of fabulous creatures are not merely fiction; they are flesh and blood – not to mention scale, feather, horn, and fang. Thanks to the “Cultural Exchange Between Species Act,” these once-mythical creatures have assimilated into society, or at least, they’re trying. When a hapless human teenager named Kurusu Kimihito is inducted as a “volunteer” into the government exchange program, his world is turned upside down. A snake-like lamia named Miia comes to live with him, and it is Kurusu’s job to take care of her and make sure she integrates into his everyday life. Unfortunately for Kurusu, Miia is undeniably sexy, and the law against interspecies breeding is very strict. Even worse, when a ravishing centaur girl and a flirtatious harpy move in, what’s a full-blooded teenage human with raging hormones to do?!

Overall Thoughts
Vantage: This season feels so empty. I’ve been here for years, and this is the first time I’ve come to the end of a season preview thinking like that. It might just be because what they’ve got is not really my sort of thing, but to me it honestly feels like Non Non Biyori is going to single-handedly carry the entire season to Fall – a burden which it’s more than capable of bearing, thankfully. I guess God Eater and Jitsu wa Watashi wa are things to look forward to as well, and I’ve heard good things about Prison School. Charlotte is to be approached with the utmost caution after the disgusting travesty that was Glasslip. As for blogging, I’ll be taking up Prisma Illya and Cinderella Girls again, as well as sharing God Eater with Oki. I think I can make time to do Non Non Biyori as well – it’s usually a policy of mine to never blog iyashikei out of a lack of time and a lack of things to write, but the former is easily solved if I’m only blogging so few shows. Weekly Ren-chon worship will make up for the latter.
Oki: This season looks to have a few shining gems in the rough. I mean if the plot can make up for the lackluster animation, Chaos Dragon has a lot of big names that might end up with it being good. I’m taking more risks and covering funnier shows but how can I help it with all the nudity? I’m a pervert. Leave me alone. I feel like a lot of things can go wrong but with Dragon Ball Super and God Eater I think my life will be complete!
Sidekick: Geez, this season is sparse as heck. Lots of sequels for anime I’ve never seen unfortunately. The only ones I’m legitimately excited for are Akagami No Shirayukihime, GANGSTA and Prison School (!!!). Good thing I picked this season to blog, with my self-imposed maximum of covering only 2 series this season. At least there’s Baby Steps 2 carrying over into the summer.
MidnightDevont: There is a lot of moe and porn and season 2’s this season. Which overall leads to a pretty slow season, I am hype for Junjou season 3. SUPER HYPE, for DBZ and the continuation of Durarara. I am also super looking forward to Gakkou Gurashi and Overlord. Otherwise there’s just not a lot of things I’m feeling, I’ve signed up to check out a few things but these are the only two I am excited for. I do hope that some of the other shows I signed up for end up showing promise. Well, at least I’ll be fairly happy with my yaoi and gangsters if nothing else!
Berry: I kinda agree with everyone else, this season is a bit empty. I’m not taking many shows because of my semi-hiatus, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem since there’s hardly anything that really interests me. The only ones I really want are Akagami no Shirayukihime and Gatchaman Crowds Insight. Other shows like Gangsta, Overlord, and Joukamachi no Dandelion are interesting me, while others are boring as hell. And of course DBZ!!!! But yeah, I’m gonna check out some shows, but most aren’t screaming at me. People are really going to have to convince me with some of these.
Hideki: Some of these shows look pretty good! I actually haven’t thought about Ushio and Tora for a while so that’s going to be a lot of fun, and the monster girl show, come on. That is going to be a BLAST. I think i’m going to enjoy the hell out of that show. There’s a few like the girl working short and the otaku dragon fight that might be interesting, but they could also be bad. Something I do have to say is that this is a very diverse season which is nice. I’m looking forward to this season. Hopefully it rocks!
Eva: Okay so I can’t particpate in this season, but I’ll at least share my two cents of which ones I will be keeping my eye out for to watch this summer! Hands down, Akagami no Shirayukihime, Gatchaman Crowds insight are the two I am most excited for. I am actually glad Akagami did not get an adaption earlier on since it now has more than enough material to work with. And with BONES on the wheel, I trust they will handle the adaption well. On the otherhand, while the others have shown little to no interest, the ones I am most curious about are: Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite (fantasy and military? This is my jam! – If done right), Overlord, Rokka no Yuusha, Aquarion Logos (we will see how this goes considering the wackjob adventure of EVOL – I am still not over the ultimate revleation that had me flipping tables). Unfortunately I won’t be able to participate in the joint coverage of IM@S: Cinderella Girls, so here’s to hoping it will have a drastic improvement for Vantage who plans to stick it through. MAKE IT WORTH IT IMAS: CINDERELLA GIRLS!
Lots of stuff that makes me say “what the hell is this?!” this season. Also astonished that Monster Musume is getting an anime, given that the (barely) not-hentai manga grew from a series of porn shorts the author drew.
I am in for a few things, though. Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya (I still don’t know why they cut 2wei in half in the first place), Non Non Biyori (NYANPASU!), and Symphogear. YES I HAPPEN TO LIKE SYMPHOGEAR. Is there a problem? >:(
For those unfamiliar with Gatchaman Crowds:
Crowds is a heavily reimagined reboot of the 1970s Gatchaman sentai franchise, commissioned to celebrate the then-50th anniversary of its owners, Tatsunoko, in 2013. Director Nakamura Kenji, known for his creative quirkiness and out-of-the-box ideas, chose to downplay the traditional superhero elements in favour of a pseudo-commentary on online social media and people power as the true drivers of modern-day heroism, over the traditional superhero team group.
I’m going to be on a limited schedule as usual. The only things I’m watching for sure are Fate Kaleid and Gakkou Gurashi. Might pick up one or two more along the way as well if I hear good things about them.
The name Gate bugged me a little and I finally remembered: it’s a light novel that I heard some good things about in the past but never bothered to check it out. I might add it to the list.
Okay. First of all to Eva, is your health problem serious or not? If yes I hope you get well soon. And just because I didn’t comment in your PreCure review doesn’t mean I stopped following PreCure, OK? I still following it, and I think it’s about time the wheels are turning for the four princesses. Yes I said four and you will find out why in this week PreCure.
Second, looks like there is not quite impressive anime selection. Is anyone here has a relative name Mami Tomoe by the way? If so, we must sacrifice her to Charlotte, otherwise the world will be destroyed forever, lol. Well, my corny joke aside is there anyone else watching Kanon, Air, or Clannad? If so they coincidentally created by the same writer as Charlotte, Jun Maeda. The studio they choose to animated these three? Kyoto Animation. If so probably Charlotte will full of tears(or sappy story to Jun Maeda hater), considering the infamy(involving death and supernatural thing) of these work could make grown man cry(or not). Oh for the fan, the works are called season trilogy iirc, because Kanon set in winter, Air set in summer, and Clannad set in spring. Also they started as Visual Novel and Season Trilogy Visual Novel already full translated in English. Go get them if you want. And for good comparison, I think Charlotte is continuation from Angel Beats iirc, also by same writer. If you find out the Charlotte music is good, the composer for Charlotte is also Jun Maeda.
Third, even for man, I think for Bikini Warrior, the clothes are too much exposure, and the PV is more fitting for H-RPG, and by the way most woman in H-RPG that had quite good game play is dressed more modest than those four which is quite ironic. Especially one of the four illustrator is from Alice Soft, which is quite famous for Rance series H-RPG. If you want to check out Rance, beware of Rapist Protagonist, which may turn you off. And for the game with the MC whose goal is screw the girl all over the world, the girls is dressed more modest(Mostly with some exception, but not as open as Bikini Warriors). Oh I watch the PV and found out the girls job is instead slaying the monster, the monster should 200 times more powerful and instead kill the warrior, it did the job with some interesting slime, tentacle thing which not out of place in Hentai Anime. And another good example of H-RPG which the woman dressed modestly are Yumina the Ethereal and Utawarerumono. You may check these two in VNDB.
Well sorry for wall of text. Guess I quite passionate to talk about Visual Novel here.
PS By the way Eva, did you watch Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru anime? Not my question, but one from Live Journal.
I was diagnosed with Tendonitis back in early 2012 and back then I had to take a 9 months hiatus due to being unable to use my hands whatsoever. I was basically crippled during that period of time. So in order to prevent it from getting that bad again, I have to take necessary breaks in order to prevent myself from further injury. I can handle covering two shows with maximizing my hands off computer approach, as it seems to be working well so far in order to finish my Spring coverage.
I have watched Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru, but I haven’t completed it because stuff happened and it was put on-hold. I plan to finish watching it this summer. I know it’s a good show.
Gakkou Gurashi! (School-Live!)
People who read the Manga say the Intial summary does not match at all and the manga cant wait to see people’s reactions.
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-854981/gakkou-gurashi-school-live
AKA: Don’t judge the book by it’s cover. (evil laughter in the background)
Even if not many people will watch the anime (which seems to be the case given the reactions here) I’m still going to sadistically enjoy each and every anime-only viewer reaction I can find 🙂
Yeah, but it is hard to talk about the ACTUAL content of Gakkou Gurashi, considering there are about half-a-dozen “jaw hitting the floor” plot twists in the first five chapters of the manga.
Seriously, this is going to be one psychologically intense anime.
Updated the genre accordingly. Anyhow thank you for bringing it up.
FYI, AniChart’s description of Million Doll is hilariously inaccurate:
“The original manga revolves around Suuko”
actually, it is an ensemble manga featuring six main characters
“an idol-loving hikikomori who has one ability: to make any idol popular through the power of blogging”
that’s based on a VERY liberal translation of her monologue from the first chapter; it doesn’t correspond to the content of the series at all
“She puts her sights on the Fukuoka idol Itorio”
Itorio is a corporate-sponsored idol unit, consisting of three farm girls
“and tries to make her sell more, but she is impeded by the charismatic idol Ryuusan and the underground idol Mariko.”
actually, Ryuu is a 20-something salaryman who falls in love with the daughter of a prostitute, Mariko. Mariko works in a nightclub and dreams of escaping poverty by becoming an idol, only to meet with continual failure and disappointment.
At least they got some of the names right.
Just a few things…
[1] First and foremost, I’m glad you’ve found a way to stay active and deal with your health condition, Eva. Thank you in advance for covering DanMachi thoroughly and to the end 🙂
[2] Vantage, I’m looking forward to seeing you cover a beloved iyashikei anime with Hello!! ‘Kin-iro Mosaic’ nearing its end! By the way, did YOU sneak Aria into this summer preview? :3
[3] For some reason looking into Overlord made me consider the possibility that the sudden change in the game world… is actually someone’s attempt to help the main character???
Is it possible that Momonga did have some great friends until he lost his parents and then shut himself away from the world? I had this vision where Momonga has conquered Yggdrasil and bonded with his underlings despite his evil facade, then the six of them reveal themselves to be his last and closest friends. They found out what happened to him eventually and all of them, grown and successful in various ways, decided to buy out the company and their game. Together they monitored his activity in the game, enhancing the experiences to be more life-like in order to touch his heart and bond with him, which gives the company great data for their next big game.
Thus he leaves Yggdrasil with his best friends by his side to start his life again, eventually going on to work for the company on the next game and marrying that one girl whose avatar has the horns… It’s probably too crazy to be true, but… A virtual reality game being quietly shut down? An ordinary person having no friends? I’m so curious!
[4] The link for the IDOLM@STER PV reads as: https://angryanimebitches.com/2015/06/summer-anime-2015-preview/%20https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDZiio6lom0 …It isn’t actually an issue since anyone who click on it will see the address and simple be able to delete the irrelevant part, but I know Eva likes to keep things in working order no matter what.
Thanks for notifying me of the broken link! It has been fixed.
If I’m able to, I hope to cover the second season to Gochiusa as well, whenever that airs. As amazing as Kiniro Mosaic is, when compared to the ‘big three’ recent iyashikei anime it actually comes in third behind Gochiusa and Non Non Biyori for me. And as for Aria – that wasn’t me! It was initially something we thought would air next season, and I guess that image of Akari was just bundled in with the rest when the preview banner was made.
More information on it has popped up recently though: the new Aria won’t be a full-length TV series, and will instead be a series of three specials, bundled with the Blu-ray box release of each season. It’s fitting given how perfectly the third season ended, but it’s also a bit disappointing at the same time, as is the lengthy wait. But it’ll be so worth it given how gorgeous the cast’s adult designs are.
Wait, you mean I’ve got to buy the entire series again to see this? That’s a lot of money for just three new episodes… Why must they lock undine Ai-chan away from me so cruelly?!
I’m sure they’ll be floating around the internet easily enough, when the time comes. The bigger problem is waiting for that time to actually come – the first episode will be released with Animation in December (although it premieres at some event on 26 September) while the Origination box-set will only be available in June 2016 ;_; All details are here!
Undine Ai-chan is cute, but I’m even more sad at being denied dekkai wavy-haired Alice. Look at how massive Maa-kun has grown though, holy crap.
Well yes, but I DO own the whole series. I WANT to own it all. Aria ranks up among my favorite anime of all time, having proven to be truly inimitable (a number of shows seem to have tried to imitate it, some of them quite good in their own right, but none of them have managed it). I WANT to own every bit of Aria that has been released. I also have shown this series to family, and we have rewatched it all the way through together at least once as well. What I’m not sure I want is to have to pay for the entire series all over again in order to properly own these last three episodes, no matter how good the episodes might be.
I admit I was wondering what Alice had done to her hair. I’m not sure I’m a fan of wavy hair compared to the way she used to have it, but I’ll wait and see how it looks when I can get a better view.
I do hope Alice has taught Maa-kun to stop biting Aria Shachou, because it’s entirely different for a kitten to do it compared to a cat that size.
*reads the character bios and setup stuff for the OVA* ALL RIGHT, NEW SERIES SET IN THIS TIME PERIOD PLS! FUND IT!
That’s a nice sentiment! I don’t own Aria (yet), but it’s definitely the sort of thing I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase if presented with the opportunity. I do get what you mean though, since you’re essentially just after these three episodes – and going by Amazon.jp, Animation seems like it’ll cost a wince-inducing 21k yen. I guess it’d be easier to pay for this release if they’d remastered all the seasons or something.
The wavy hair makes kouhai-chan look very mature and grown-up – I initially reacted with doubt as well, but I quickly grew to like it the more I stared at her. It feels like the most drastic change in appearance of the three, given that Akari is basically still Momiko (but now with an Alicia-san aura) and that Aika changes her hair all the time.
So far, it’s probably best to treat Avvenire like an epilogue of sorts. But it’ll set a precedent, especially when none of us ever considered that more Aria after Origination would even be a thing, ever. And if they got Amano to invest effort into designing new Singles, then they might as well make full use of them, right? 😀
So exciting for Woking!!, Junjou Romantica, and Makura no Danshi!
It’s gonna be an exciting summer this year! Can’t wait to watch Woking!!
