And so we have returned to the wild world of big guys and their girlfriends. This show has started out, and pretty continuously kept up with its ability to be adorable. Does it keep that feeling though? Well let’s find out.

So the episode starts out with Takeo being amazing at soccer. Afterwards Yamato asks if he and his friends want to join her and her friends to go skating. Takeo is automatically amazing at it even though it’s his first time. Then the conversation comes up asking if Takeo’s actually bad at anything. We learn that he’s bad at dancing, basketball, and studying.

A perfect axle on the first try? Jesus.
A perfect axle on the first try? Jesus.

The conversation then turns into a question of Does Takeo want to go to college. Yamato has her heart set on a few colleges, but with Takeo’s grades, he wouldn’t be able to get in.

He then determines that he wants to be able to go to college with her and that he’ll study fiercely for the next two years. And with that, he begins to study pretty heavily. However, once Yamato stops over at his house to help him study, Takeo’s mom discovers about Yamato being his girlfriend and goes into “Impress your son’s girlfriend” mode and she as well as her husband begin to overwhelm the two while they’re studying, irritating Takeo.

They finally migrate over to Suna’s to study and work up until the weekend of a mock exam. At the exam however Takeo messes up as he ends up moving all the answers over one on the scantron sheet and basically fails the mock exam.

Aw shit. I HATED when I used to do that!
Aw shit. I HATED when I used to do that!

Yamato tells him not to worry and it turns out that the school she really wanted to get into was an all girl’s school and Suna laughs as he basically tricked Takeo as he didn’t know. And that’s pretty much where the episode ends.

Oh Suna, you troll
Oh Suna, you troll

Now the question is, how was the episode? Well….I’m going to say this episode was…it was okay? Here’s the thing. Takeo and Yamato are adorable. That’s undeniable. The problem i’m coming across is…that’s all that’s really happening. They’re basically just blissfully happy with no real problems other than….they’re happy and there’s life things such as studying, or suna’s dad being sick. There’s no real internal conflict between the two and…it’s getting a tad old hat. Takeo’s a little too perfect and really..it’s getting kind of dull for me.

Having read Berri’s post from last week I can say this. Honestly, if I swung that way, Takeo wouldn’t be my type. Then again, neither would Suna. The closest thing that I would have to a type in this series would be Takeo’s friend with the fro.

Yeah THIS guy. ...what? I like spazzy personalities. You got a problem with that?
Yeah THIS guy. …what? I like energetic, spazzy personalities. You got a problem with that?

Yeah, I know that sounds weird. Takeo is…he’s a little too serious and perfect in a lot of ways, while Suna is perfect in other ways. Yes this episode tried to show how Takeo is bad at some things but… I don’t know.

I see what they were trying to do with this episode. I do. They were trying to show that even though Takeo’s amazing in a lot of areas he is below average in others. However, when 1, he’s one of the most popular guys in school with the other men, 2, he’s like…superman strong, 3, he has no real personality foibles other than being gullible, it….it really doesn’t make me think that him being a bit lower on the intelligence side is something terrible.

Ha! See, it's funny because he doesn't study well!
Ha! See, it’s funny because he doesn’t study well!

Yamato was cute as ever, Suna was his usual funny self, but in general, this episode is just a continuation of things i’ve seen over and over with this show. Basically I need some new blood in this show. I need to see some arguments, something to show that both of them aren’t perfect and they have some imperfections as human beings.

Like I said, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the episode. I guess…I guess i’m just waiting to see the next step this show will take if any.

All in all, it was an okay episode. If you’re looking for another “The two of them being adorable” episode, then you’ve come to the right place. If you are beginning to look for a little more like I am, well, you’ll be in the same boat. We’re at the halfway mark so hopefully it will pick up. Otherwise, 13 episodes for this show would have been just enough.

Episode 5/10
