What a shame the episode felt so short! Yuuya being awesome by doing his best to try and keep Reira calm and throw everyone off with his Entertainment Style, (which played out gloriously because the Cops were flabbergast of what was going on before their eyes. Their reaction to the Hippos dancing was the BEST THING EVER) was so much fun to watch. THIS is the Yuuya we love. I missed his puppy smiles, I missed his ladies and gentlemen opening, and I never thought I’d say this- but i missed his dancing hippos too! Watching him do his best to stay true to himself despite the grave situation they were in made me so proud of him. I loved seeing Yuuya act as a big brother to Reira, doing his best to calm him down with his entertainment, pointing to the fireworks in hopes to make the poor kid smile. Reira was just downright terrified. He wanted to be by his brother’s side ASAP, and I think that speaks volume of their relationship. But I have to be totally honest here: I could not stop laughing every single time they cut to his face, because his expression was priceless. He didn’t know how to react with Yuuya smiling like he isn’t in danger, trying to entertain their opponents and of course, his frightful face. But it was so precious to see Reira depend on Yuuya, hug him when Yuuya promised he would take care of him. Yuuya tried to enact a selfless action of being a decoy in hopes that he could entrust Reira to Selena so that the two of them could at least try and run away (but with all the cops around them, they probably wouldn’t have gotten far). Thank goodness for Crow and his D-Wheel gang for showing up to haul them out of the messy situation they were in.
It was fun to see Yuuya throw the cops off with the Action Cards, and I was excited to see Yuuya troll them with these cards- it was a golden opportunity to mess with their heads- but then Sawatari just HAD to open his mouth about the Action Field, providing the Cops and Jean-Michel the explanation understand what the Action Cards are and how to use them. Damn it Sawatari, at a time like this, it is important to keep this information to yourself!
Now mind you, it doesn’t help our heroes how our villain of the season Jean-Michel is no idiot. He who is overseeing the whole thing from his headquarters quickly understood Yuuya, Selena and the others were not the fugitives they were looking for. He also didn’t waste any time after seeing them fight with Action Field and its cards, Fusion monsters, Pendulum Summonings, which are almost all foreign except for the possibly of Fusion considering the moment he saw Selena use it, he called for back-ups. With that in mind, there is a possibility perhaps they are aware of Academia’s presence and have already been fighting off their invasion- just not in a large scale mess like the XYZ World. Regardless he didn’t see them as allies either, just a threat that needs to be taken care of.
The Synchro Realm’s conflict will serve as a good trial run before our Lancers decide to invade Academia. Sawatari didn’t stand a chance and was eliminated in a one shot kill. All the cops seem to have a standard “one-kill” deck to ensure a quick arrest, but Selena and Yuuya are the only two who managed to dodge it, and Selena being the only one to have actually taken down a cop all on her own, without the need of action cards. But that isn’t to degrade Yuuya’s actions. Although we know and have discussed time after time again about his unhealthy reliance on the Action Cards, he still manage positive progress, by drawing the card he desperately needed, and utilized his monster effect along with the said card before going ahead with his Pendulum Summoning. I think the moment he realized they were in a do-or-die situation, he realized he needed to be patience and make careful decisions. Regardless he still struggled quite badly and was on the losing end. With the way things were unfolding, had Crow now jumped into the fray with his fellow comrades, the four of them would have been in deep trouble.
I truly look forward to Yuuya’s future Entertainment Duels in this world. I could not stop laughing throughout the entire scene. I was laughing so hard, my stomach hurts. What excites me even more is when Yuuya gets the opportunity to be broadcasted- unless Jean-Michel wants to cut the feed to prevent the public from witnessing these foreign duelist- but we will see what happens when the time comes.
NEXT WEEK! We will be seeing the other half of the group next week along with Yuzu, Yuugo and Crow! Glad to see they won’t be simply focusing on the other half of the group. I wonder what the hell Dennis is up to… *SIGHS* It looks like he and Gongenzaka may have be separated from Reiji and Shun, but we will have to wait and see. I consider Gongenzaka a sharp character, so Dennis ought to watch himself around him unless he plans to betray him right off the bat.
This pretty much shows that these type of ideals aren’t really fit for Yuya, especially when your traveling in an alternate universe where where dueling is used extremely crucial means.
Also it’s hard to tell if Sawatari is helping the police or if he’s a freaking idiot for telling them about Action cards which was suppose to be their advantage.
Agree, Yuuya isn’t meant to be a fighter, he is more of the peacekeeper kind. It will be interesting to see how he adapts while staying true to his roots. Once he becomes strong enough (because as of right now, he is no where near the strength he needs to be), THEN he can figure out how to fight intelligently and entertain at the same time. Put the two together and it will be a fun duel to watch! 😉
IKR? I was like GOD DAMN IT SAWATARI, YOU ALREADY LOST- ZIP IT!!! So much of having an advantage. *FACEPALM*
Actually I meant with something along the lines of trying to smile through your problems while trying to escape the truths of a cruel reality. It even seemed as if from Reira’s look he was questioning his sanity. Later on the line it will mostly break Yuya of all since he’s known as the emotional yet understandable of the Lancers where he seems his ideals were never his own and just illusions of him wanting to be exactly his father but utterly fail. Regardless it was a good thought of trying to deal with a situation but the greatest weakness was the lack of teamwork.
About the Synchro Dimension, R/Leo admitted back in Reiji’s flashback that was going to invade it first but chose Xyz instead, which implied that Synchro was far more advanced and threatening compared to the two especially if you want to use Yugo one turn three kill at the battle royale as an example and Xyz was the least threatening due to how peaceful it was. All-in-all reminded me a little of Avatar where the fire lord genocide the air nomads and they mostly good away with it due to them being pacifist mooks that wouldn’t resort to crucial violence; Legend of Korra strongly showed how frighting air-bending can be when a user literally stole the oxygen out of a victims lungs.
Lastly, it’s a shame Security didn’t threaten them with the “hope your ready to get prison tattoo” thing but it would probably be seem as too cruel.
I definitely agree with you about Yuuya trying to avoid the cruelty of the new reality.
It will be interesting to see how Yuuya holds up and how long it will be before it breaks him down (unless he managed to become more resilient after the chaos during the tournament- but I think that would be too soon), and I like that because it doesn’t make him a perfect character, makes him flawed and adds more depth.
Yeah they definitely need to work on the team work part, they were so disjointed there, it was simply a mess.
I don’t remember the Synchro being mentioned as first on the list, but I do remember it being brought up. Perhaps they had a failed invasion in the past and this is why they are aware of the Synchro’s Realm advance technology, who also so happens to already have an army of officers to send into the field- and they have no qualms of playing dirty.
Hahahahaha, that would have been quite funny to bring up the prison mark, but I don’t think the gangs would have had any idea what they are talking about, except understand it’s probably a bad thing. XD
Damn….I was hoping Serena used new cards to her deck but the writers had her beat her opponent’s the same way she usually does…..While it was an eyeroll moment for me that Crow has a new Synchro monster (Blackwings had more than enough of their legacy support), I’m more over interested in seeing who these other D-Wheelers are that were with Crow. I hope at least we get to see them take off their helmets or something.
The cops aren’t worth her time XD She is too badass for them.
Omg ALL THE FREAKING BLACKWINGS, I remember in the earlier box sets going “more blackwings? I thought we were DONE with them!?” sort of thoughts.
I have my doubts we will see the other D-Wheelers’ faces, they will probably drive off the minute they drop them off, unless they will be playing a significant role in what’s to come in this arc.
I won’t say who he is but they revealed at least one other new character that’s part of Crow’s gang. So I’m guessing he was with him when he saved Yuya and Co. I don’t know what to make of him, he has one of those faces that you have to look at multiple times to wrap your head around him. One moment he looks like a teenager, another an old guy. Take another look and his head is too stretched out while a few minutes later it looks completely normal.
You know something I love about this show besides the them being Meta about the audience’s reaction, deconstructing every shonen stereotype under the sun? The mooks. The mooks in this show are scarily competent and use reasonable strategy. Besides “Attack on Titan”, I don’t think I ever saw threatning mooks like the ones from Arc V. You don’t even need a named character to be a threat of the day, these guys do the job.
Listing their accomplishment:
Obelisk Force:
-Carded +/- 15 people, 5 named characters(The Knight trio, Michio and Teppei), with Michio and Teppei being named characters of “importance”
-Worfing Yuu, the finalist of the last Maiami Tournament that somehow defeated Isao and uses a “Meta deck”(Prophecy)
-Needind 7 people to defeat three of them.
-Needing Yuya to activate his negative digievolution to defeat them.
-Cornering Serena by using tactics made to decrease her threat like Yuzu vs Masumi.
Security:
-Managed to take a good chunk of Yugo’s LP when the Obelisk Force didn’t even scratch it and using cards with good combos.
-Stabilishing a road block in case they lost the duel.
-Calling for reinforcements just in case.
-Defeating a Main Character in a FTK(I know it’s Sawatari, but that’s still an accomplishment)
-Cornering the Protagonist and having a good chance of even defeating him.
I really love their competence, and for being nobodies without a name they sure shows a lot of personality, the Obelisk Force are sadist fucks that mocked the opponent and showed that they were cunning people when they upped their opponent as well as having different voices and the Security guards… OMG, specially the one dueling Yuya, he doesn’t even need to say anything but we can see how utterly baffled he was, and the guy was quite smart for picking immediately after Sawatari spilled the beans how to use the AC, it’s a good thing he didn’t think of using them like Masumi or else he could use it as fodder to FTK everyone.
I saw a lot of people unsatisfied with this episode, but personally I liked it because like always, Arc V doesn’t follow the Shonen’s terrible writing. Reira isn’t prepared at all for war, Yuya didn’t magically cure the Spurr child of being a Spurr despite him showing a degree of trust in Yuya, Yuya didn’t manage to sway anyone not even once with his ideals, that feels very forced for now, and their teamwork is horrible, it’s very bad, which was expected considering everyone’s clashing personalities and the fact that they aren’t particularly close, the trip won’t be a picnic field for them and there’s a lot of room for development. I like character development, and Arc V didn’t stop doing that, another point about this show that endears me.
Sawatari will be always the impulsive fuck that is hammy and funny as well as the comic relief, but I don’t think it can be necessary bad if his thick head remains. Sure, he can learn to be more humble and willing to be a team player, but his hammyness and confidence can function as an anchor to Yuya in case he ever forget about his ideals again, lI think that confidence is a key element that’s missing in his entertainment dueling, his duel against Ishijima and Sawatari are the biggest proof of that, he had fun during parts of the duel and felt more natural as a result, he acted more confident.
Poor Yuya, he means well, but I don’t think he’s good at handling idiots, Yuzu is better at being the pacifying person LMAO XD. So far Yuzu is the only person Serena listed to, pffff…
ALL OF THIS! And well said! This is great writing taking place, I give major props to the writers because they are constantly creating threats, making characters including the villains take the initiatives, making the characters flawed leaving more than enough room for development. It made sense for our beloved characters to be so disjointed and desperately need to work on their team work efforts. Shun, Selena and Sawatari are hands down the most impulsive ones of the group. Without a leader to keep them united together, it’s just a hot mess.
I love how Yuuya is struggling with this new reality. He is trying, but like everyone else is saying, it feels forced. He is trying too hard to make something good out of a bad situation, in short it has become desperate pleas to his opponents to stop fighting. I think because Yuuya isn’t an OP Protagonist, it will force him to have to adapt to these new cruel circumstances, become strong and find a way to do both efficiently without having to worry about his own life (which has to come first, no matter what). Yuuya was never meant to be a fighter, he needs to find his own way to move his opponents so that he can end the “do-or-die” situation which we know will be a VERY difficult task. And I do look forward to seeing how he will do this, or whether or not he will cast his peaceful hopes aside and become the fighter he hates.
Yeah Yuzu is a great communicators, these characters can learn a lot from her ahahaha! And honestly I love that she has that skill.
It should be noted that because of Yuzu reasoning with Serena, she indirectly saved Shun from getting card by Sora which in turn helped them at the end of the end of battle royale. I agree that they are threats but I don’t particularly like the Obelisk force due to their main strength his ganging up on people via the numbers game as well as the debatable 2k penalty Reiji left.
Speaking of writers, the writer for this episode was a new one which could explain why a lot of people didn’t like it. I don’t have anything against any writers as long as they don’t screw up Yuzu’s character much less include Shin Yoshida and portray writers like the one who did the infamous Quiz duel.
// I don’t have anything against any writers as long as they don’t screw up Yuzu’s character //
My exact sentiment. Yuzu is too valuable to degrade and I love her too much for her to get poor treatment.
The cops certainly had trouble reacting to Yuya’s antics.
If only Sawatari didn’t open his mouth, we could have seen Yuuya troll the hell out of them with his spectacles using the Action Cards LMAO all while they probably were thinking he’s insane.
Nah, the best part was where Sawatari was all “Be grateful I lost to a OTK for you all!” and “If I hadn’t chosen to lose I could take all these police dudes out in one go!”
