You know, when an episode is perfect. Absolutely, flawlessly, perfect. Then the after credits scene just rears it’s ugly head and taints that episodes perfection? If I had to sum up episode 8 of Plastic Memories. It would be like that. Alright, I may as well be a little more clear about what’s wrong.

The episode basis is around the idea of if Giftia can get their memories back after their operating systems have been reset. Which is really nice in theory, but let’s be honest here. We know it’s not going to work, still though. It was a good way to give Eru some character depth and focus on an issue that has been weighing on Tsukasa’s mind.

The basic idea is that retrieval targets for a different depart run off and they send a Giftia over, well, the body of the Giftia is an old friend of Eru’s. Her name used to be Olivia but now it’s Andie. [-holds back a slew of ‘Do Androids dream of electric sheep’ references.-] Of course, since she had her OS replaced she doesn’t remember Eru or the times they used to have.
This gets Tsukasa thinking, is there any way at all for them to remember after their OS has been wiped? Well later, when Eru gets a request from Andie to bring her to a carnival that Eru has brought Olivia too in the past. They have a small hope that her memories might come back. However, in the end. It’s honestly no use.

At the same time, the episode developed that Isla thinks that Tsukasa is babying her a bit because her time is coming up. This episode had a lot of cute ideas and concepts.
The music that played as he ran to find her after loosing her in the crowd. The moment she asked if she was causing him pain, that she didn’t want to be his partner if it was painful for him. Him hugging her tightly and telling her that YES yes it was painful, but he wanted to be with her till the very end. When she asks why, obviously he says that he’s in love with her.

We cut to the credits and if it was only that, well this episode would of been absolutely flawless and the sweetest thing i’ve ever seen. Then the after credit, where the series hits it’s largest hiccup. It’s inability to pull off comedy. We cut back to the moment he says that he loves her, we see Eru and her friend from the episode spying on them. That’s fine and expected,it’s Isla’s reaction that really kills the entire thing.

Instead of just turning him down, or having something dramatic happen. They play it off as almost a comedy as she turns bright red and screams she can’t do this. I don’t know, perhaps it’s just me but I feel as if it was out of placed. When there was a scene after the credits after something so sweet, well I was horrified that something was going to happen. Like she was going to start breaking down or something.

Tsukasa feels my pain, better then I do...
Tsukasa feels my pain, better then I do…

Oh well, can’t ask for perfection. The episode was nice, the ending was out of place. I still cried during the episode like I have almost every Plastic Memories episode because it’s so hard to watch Tsukasa struggle with Isla’s remaining time. At least it’s better then before when he didn’t know about it, then it was just Isla suffering and that was just awful. I’m glad that they told Tsukasa but at the same time…

THERE IS NO HAPPINESS TO BE FOUND. A little less then a month, 5 episodes left….

I agree, I completely regret remembering to wait past the credits for the extra scene. It legit stopped my tears. #thatmomentwhenyoukillthemood Like you said, it would have been absolutely perfect if Isla started breaking down, but hey, maybe they’re saving her tears for later? But other than that, this episode was spot on, and oh my goodness Tsukasa’s confession was amazing. I rewatched it like 50 times seriously.
