Holy gay boyfriends this episode had so much content ! And for once ladies and gentlemen, fighting happened! I do have to say I finally think the show is trying to show Yu in a light of maybe not totally gay and it’s too little too late. Show, he spends his nightmare dreams worrying about why he left Mika wat the freaken hell are you doing he’s so gay!

Don’t get me wrong I was kind of expecting the arbitrary romances. Afterall, everyone in this show wants to have sex with Yu. Mika. Yoichi. Tsundere Red head. Tsundere blonde. Shinoa. Guren. Everyone wants to have sex with Yu! They show us some new characters in order to hit this point home but God I was like no plz. You really can’t make a deeper bond than Yu and Mika. Show. Don’t try.

The main point of contention this episode was certainly tsundere blonde girl being all like ‘ I don’t like these new recruits why are we fighting with them wah wah wah’ and I want to say very bluntly, what an annoying bitch. I get it everyone in this show has angsts and their own reasons but that’s even more reason not to be a giant stupid idiot because everyone else has the same problems you do. Oh no I got my comrades killed! Look at Yu. Look at Yoichi. Look at some random guy at school. I’m sure his mother has super vampire aids please stop tsundere girl I don’t care about you.

Shinoa taunts them about a potential romance and the show hints at potential Shinoa x Yu as well but I gotta tell you it feels so forced. Nothing quite feels as important as Mika in Yu’s life. Ugh. But then again that opening.

What was really cool is finally seeing fight scenes. There wasn’t enough but it was beyond cool to finally see some intense fighting. I wish that the show was a bit faster paced because all we got was a decoy fight and a cliffhanger ‘ oh next time we’ll sure take care of business!’ once again leaving the show on a satisfying end note of ‘I’m sure ready for when stuff happens!’

Well, to be fair, Shinoa does develop a crush on Yu later on in the lightnovel and manga but he’s too fucking dense (or hungover with Mika) to actually notice anything!
In other news, Guren looked hot as always in this episode and I am happy. And content. brb ordering every Guren merchandise i can get my hands on

So Shinoa has an older sister? 10 BUCK$ – I say that half of the reason most of the Hiragi family males despise Gurren isn’t because he’s from the lower Ichinose family, but that Shinoa’s older sister was his fiancee before dying. I could totally see it since he made it high up enough in the army to be on the council… Hell, I bet Gurren even has her Cursed Gear as her dying wish.
Honestly, most of this stems from Shinoa’s constant statements about being cute. She IS and it’s great that she’s confident, but those lines always sound a little sad. Maybe it’s just because of her older sister that she prefers to work under Gurren rather than her prideful brothers, but it also slightly smells like neglect frown emoticon
Also, Oki, I know you’re totally waiting for that line I spoiler-marked a few episodes back. Actually, maybe you’ve forgotten about it by now, but that’ll just make hearing it all the better :3
Shinoa is easily my favorite girl in this show and probably the ONLY one I wouldn’t mind her being with besides Mika, lol.

According to the author’s notes at the end of each volume of the manga, there is a companion light novel series, set 8 years before the show, focusing on Guren, Shinoa’s older sister, and tsundere-blonde’s older sister. Supposedly, the manga is set up so that you need to read the 3+ light novels in order to get all of Guren’s backstory.
Well, I’d try to find them but I am no longer near a place that sells Japanese books lol
