Nothing plot wise really happened. This episode was more of a breather, and we got to see the characters hang out and have fun during the rookie tournament.
The first half is dedicated to Minatogawa. There are booths set up, and after her match Eruna buys some takoyaki. She meets up with Seisa and they actually hang out for once. They stop to get her food and that’s when they come across Minatogawa, the sole member of the flower-arranging club. He has a shooting-range booth up, and he’s standing there alone trying to get people to come by, but no one does. He has a sickly look on his face and Eruna walks over to see what’s up. He describes the prizes, the grand prize being a life-size figure of that hero character mentioned in last week’s episode. Well, it turns out Minatogawa looked sickly because the poor guy needed to pee, so while he’s off doing that, Eruna watches over the booth. Finding out from Seisa that Minatogawa is usually alone, and the fact that he’s using his own personal possessions as prizes, Eruna wants to help out as much as she can. Akama comes over, tries to get the life-size model, dies (sort of), and people come to the booth. Success! In this moment, we see a more fun side of Seisa, as she teases Minatogawa a little and actually wins one of the prizes.
Eruna can still be a bit of a creep, but you can tell she really cares about people, and she’s pretty friendly. Knowing how lonely Minatogawa can be, she helped him out with his booth, and promised that she would visit him from time to time in his club. Good, I like this. Very good.
Now, in the second half, Eruna meets up with Usamaru and Tonkyun. They talk about the rookie battles and check out videos of the other opponents they’ll have to face. Eruna actually missed watching Usamaru’s and Tonkyun’s battles (and they won), but she promises to watch this time. She has another battle the same day which was off-screen, but she won that as well. It’s then that she rushes over to Usamaru’s next match. And it’s humiliating. Usamaru’s opponent is a girl from the school’s band. He actually got a crush on her, and in her video she seemed sweet and innocent. But in reality, all she did was purposely toy with him in the match. But Usamaru never gave up, but he lost in the end anyway. Seisa was there watching, and when Usamaru’s last gem was crushed, it triggered some flashbacks to Seisa’s old match, saying she hates them. We saw Seisa open up this episode, with her having fun with Eruna and teasing the boys. But we can guess that the reason why Seisa shuts herself away all the time is because she probably hates the school’s system with club battles. That loss she suffered at that time must have shook her up.
I hope we learn more about Seisa soon. Another character worth of interest is Kuzuryu. Eruna wanted him to paint a portrait of her but one of the girls of the club said he was busy, even though we saw him eating a crepe with Seisa. And after Eruna won her second battle and her cousin called to throw a rally for her, Eruna wanted to invite Kuzuryu, but her cousin said that he didn’t like get-togethers, so he wouldn’t come. Kuzuryu is pretty intimidating on the outside (he scared the crepe girl), but he’s pretty nice.
Now! Yes, I did watch the videos of the songs. I know we’re going to delve into his character soon, maybe next episode. His song was my second favorite personally. I hope soon they make Eruna’s character shine like the little bits of her character we got in the music videos. Really not much happened in this episode, but it was fun. Like I said, I hope we get into Seisa’s character soon, as well as other characters. And I’m still so curious who the purple-haired girl in the opening and ending is.
Eruna still has her issues, but hespite them she is good for the people around her. Just by being herself, without even realizing that she’s doing it, she is helping them open themselves. She brings sunlight into the darkness that several of them had shrouded themselves in, figuratively speaking. After seeing that, I could not help but like her, despite her flaws.
I’m looking forward to meeting the purple-haired girl as well.
Going to check out Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku, because i like stuff that makes me smile.
