I love this. This entire concept of hell is amazing and I have never seen it so beautifully displayed. This second part of the 2 parter was completely hilarious because I’ve never seen hell displayed like this. Literally the focus is on something called debt hell, where those who owe a debt in hell are trapped forever. Yes, this is the ultimate plan of this anime two parter: To trap Rinne in hell forever because he is a poor cheapskate.
I just. . .can’t get over this. Masato baits Rinne the entire time in order to make his life a living hell and trap him in hell, he even gives him the tools to run from the demons in charge so he can wreak more havoc. This is all while using Reiji’s soul as a decoy for his true goal, but he could give a crap less. Rinne only cares about the soul and isn’t bothered in the slightest by Masato’s crap.
The only thing that really works for Masato is using his weapon against him. Rinne is so flat broke he actually takes his weapon from him and threatens him, but man I love that entire episode. It was enjoyable watching a villain so dumb and goofy like Masato, and seeing his own plot screw him over. Masato set up a fake cash card you see, but demons think there is a worse crime than all the ones he set up for Rinne: that is, forging fake cash. While his plan was to have Rinne spend it so he’d go to jail…in hell, that does not work out.
Why? cause there’s a shinigami ability he wanted to use instead that takes money. He’s never going to be able to afford it so he was excited. I think that’s.. .just yes. Everything about this episode was clever and funny, and I genuinely wanted to see the next episode. Not to mention Rinne Masato and Sakura have some funny dialogues thanks to how poor he is. Namely, the scene where Masato has to pay for Rinne or risk him telling the truth, so he has to calmly call him ‘my friend’ after trying to deny it once Rinne said he’d pay for it. Then Sakura was asking to be paid back and well. . .
“You’d be a top class shinigami..” “I know but..” “You’d be a top class shinigami” “OMFG you cheapo shit”
Love it.

I- I regret falling behind with this series 🙁 It was nice, but it became wonderful once the episodes felt more connected! The themes of being kind vs forceful and how it works with Rokudou and Juumonji’s dynamic, in addition to the actual cases they solve, it’s all just great! I actually felt feelings other than amusement and interest after episode 3, where I fell behind due to poor time distribution 🙂
Oh haha just realized something-you guys labeled this under kyoukai no Kanata, no kyoukai no rinne XD. The names are pretty similar. Just wanted to let you know because I was looking for this and realized that it wasn’t grouped with the other episodes.
Hah, thanks! It’s the second option under control F so it got me. 🙂
