You know, normally as a series progresses, normally you’re supposed to like a main character more and more as they should develop, you learn more about them, and things of that nature. However, Etotama manages to do something amazing. It makes me hate the main character more and more with each passing episode. Astonishing I know, but it’s true. So why did Nya-tan reach a whole new level of assness? Well let me begin the recap.
So the episode starts off with Nya-tan trying to trade a banana and a bone for the dog and monkey’s sol/lull seals.
That is until the Tiger shows up and basically tells Nya-tan that that isn’t how the contest works and she’s ashamed of her for trying such a method. Nya-tan acts like her usual dumbass self and runs off.
The tiger then has a sit down with Takeru and tells him that she’s very worried about Nya-tan. It seems that as an Eto-Musume she’s supposed to be going around helping people and earning sol/lull on her journey to become a Eto-shin. However, Because Takeru has such a large amount of Sol/Lull, she feels she doesn’t have to help anyone else and just trick him into giving her Sol/Lull therefore not growing as a person. Which actually makes all the sense in the world. She hasn’t grown from episode one and is still an annoying fuck.
Tiger wants to challenge Nya-tan but finds her trying AGAIN to trade bananas and bones to the two to get their sol/lull’s and THEN tries to blackmail Tiger with pictures from the previous episode.
Fed up with this, Tiger challenges her Nya-tan and Monkey and Dog.
The challenge is to kick the can away from her once. Nya-tan tries to use the tactic of ganging up on her, but dog and monkey are quickly defeated.
After a very one-sided battle, Tiger tells her about how if she’s only going to use Takeru and no other method of Sol/Lull she has to treat him more like a battery and less like a person. She’s all “No! Takeru is cool!” blah blah blah and Takeru gives her extra power and she wins.
The episode ends with her sleeping basically.
This episode….here’s the problem with this episode. It started out with a very interesting idea. Yeah, Nya-tan WAS only using Takeru. She SHOULD help other people. How is she going to do that? Oh no wait, never mind. We’re going to completely ignore that plot point for the rest of the episode and just have her say that she likes living there and likes Takeru. So….fuck other people I suppose.
Nya-tan. Never. Develops. This is the main issue I’m having with this show. All the other characters have consciences, they have morals, their characters can be deep, but Nya-tan is the same fucking idiot she was in episode one. She’s still devious, she’s stupid, she’s not funny, she’s annoying, and there is NO reason these Eto-shin should be so nice to her. I’m CERTAIN the other 100+Eto-musume that were trying out to be a member of the zodiac were better people than her. I don’t know WHY they think her having a small speech about how “Takeru is a person” changes ANYTHING about what tiger was saying about her having to branch out or her not being a stupid fuck. Because it doesn’t.
The other thing that I’ve been noticing is that some of the years got the shaft. Some people get cool women to represent them like the Tiger, Rat, Rooster, Sheep, Snake, and Horse but Monkey and Dog people got the SHAFT. I mean, I’m not a dog or monkey myself but jesus. How they hell did THESE two get to be Eto-shin? They’re weak, they’re pretty stupid, and they’re childish. I don’t know HOW they made it, but really, Shigure from fruits basket was a much cooler dog.
I am in complete agreeance with Chu-tan. Nya-tan has NO BUSINESS being a member of the zodiac. In fact, if she replaced MY year, I might fucking beat her ass. There’s a good reason she’s not one of the zodiac. Because she’s a fucking asshole. She has no business being the main character and as of right now, she can go fuck herself. Time hasn’t changed my view of this, it’s only solidified it.
All this is telling us is, if you have a good thing going, just stay in your comfort zone as long as you can justify it. I don’t like that moral. And this show shouldn’t be teaching people that.
And also…give me some more Piyo-tan damn it!
