And welcome back to the world of teaching outside the box that is Denpa Kyoushi. So boys and girls, remember what happened last time? Well in case you forgot, a male student was grouchy and angry at the world and wanted to beat up Kagami. Kagami told him that they’d fight, but with a game. That game turned out to be a game of soccer and the winner becomes the loser’s slave. There. Now that you’re all caught up, let’s jump into Denpa Kyoushi Episode 6.

So the teams get set up. However, they seem to be a bit on the unfair side as Kagami gets the all star athlete high school team while Nanami gets the all girls team which apparently isn’t nearly as good.

....that better be my harem
….that better be my harem

Nanami tries to call it unfair, but gets shot down. For the first chunk of the episode it’s basically Nanami’s team getting his butt handed to him as he doesn’t really understand soccer but also refuses to cool his head and work as a team. At half time the score is 5-0 in Kagami’s favor.

It’s at this point that Nanami basically gives up, but Kagami calls in Face Punch to give him a hand. She shows up and gives him a morale boost and realizes that he’s been looking at it the wrong way and changes the way he plays. So instead, he becomes a one man show, basically becoming an unstoppable force, and eventually winning the game.

However that’s when the other soccer players come over and start talking to Kagami telling him how much they enjoyed playing with him and want him to be on their team.

Understanding what lesson Kagami was trying to teach him, he gives in and admits defeat even though he won the game as he realizes that in the end, Kagami taught him the lesson he meant to all along. Kagami’s only order to him is to never stop being himself. And with that, the episode ends.

Honestly, this wasn’t that bad of an episode. It was cheesy yes with the whole “you can’t always be alone” and “friendship” motif, but it was done in such a way that it wasn’t gag inducing.

The character of Nanami is one we’ve seen a bunch of times before in anime, but in this show, it doesn’t feel overdone. In fact, besides Kagami, this is the first REAL male character we’ve seen in the show so far, and honestly, it’s nice to have another dude in the mix so as not to create a harem effect.

It was obvious to see what Kagami was planning a mile away as the watcher, but once again, it doesn’t change that it was nice.

Seeing Nanami learn something and becoming closer to people so as to heed the words of his dying father was nice. He finally understood what he was saying and didn’t think of it as the rambling words of a dying old man. The closure of that was appreciated, as well as a good moral to see.

heed my advice..it's in faded flashback mode after all

Kagami tries to hide behind the whole “YD” (or yearn to do) motif, but you can tell that everything he does really does have the student’s best interests at heart. So far he’s never really done anything that would harm someone or for his own personal gain. He’s a bit selfish yes, but in a way that it’s not malicious or harmful, just..selfish. He’s a character that has his heart in the right place but just needs to mature a little more. And also he’s not so annoying that I want to punch him every time he’s on screen like Nya-tan from Etotama.

also he has a cool evil smirk
also he has a cool evil smirk

It’s also nice to see that the characters he helped before from previous episodes repeat. It would be irritating if this was one of those shows where he helped someone and then moved on never to see them again. Hopefully this trend will continue and we’ll see more of face punch, maid girl, and Cyborg human (what Kagami calls Nanami) in the coming episodes.

While this may not be my FAVORITE show of the season and it may not have my favorite characters, I still enjoy this show and don’t wince with pain and/or confusion when it’s on.
