Welp, looks like it’s time for another review of Denpa Kyoushi. Why? Because it’s what I YD? (Yearn to do)? Nope, it’s because it’s Saturday, and Saturday’s when the new episode comes out. (What? Was that explanation too anticlimactic?) Anyway, let’s jump right into what little plot there was this week.
So the episode starts off with Kagami not wanting to go to work…obviously. His sister convinces him to go though, and upon arriving at school, a car gets Superman kicked through school yard.
It turns out that the guy who did it just doesn’t like things being in his way and kicks the ass of whatever is, including Kagami who gets in the way when a piece of an anime keychain breaks off and he tries to find it.
The guy wants to kick Kagami’s ass but the sister stops him. That’s when the chairwoman shows up and becomes her usual trollish self and tells them that they will fight each other but in three days. the jerk guy agrees and they leave.
Kagami goes to a maid cafe to talk to the girl from last episode when Face Punch (you remember, that girl from episode 1 who wanted to be a voice actor) Shows up.
It turns out that she was a delinquent and she was actually Seijuro’s (jerk guy) mentor of delinquency and of course, explains his backstory.
Long story short, his dad was a baseball player and a jerk. Nobody liked him and he died of sadness..(or some generic anime disease they never actually tell you the name of) Because of that, now he’s a jerk.
The next day Kagami calls him out to talk to him. He meets up with him and Kagami tells him that the match will be a game, and pulls out a playstation soccer game.
The bully agrees and takes the game home to practice it.
Face Punch comes by and helps him out until he’s able to master the game.
The day of the match finally arrives, however as they get onto the field, Kagami completely trolls him by saying “Oh, I never said we’d be playing that specific game I gave you, oh no, we’re playing ACTUAL soccer.
And that’s where the episode ends.
Man. A whole lotta nothing sure happened in this episode. This was just one of those episodes where you keep waiting for something to happen, but it never does. Sure, it introduces the jerk student, but it doesn’t resolve anything as you have to wait a soccer match next episode. I’m not exactly sure why they felt the need to devout a large chunk of this episode to his backstory when I honestly don’t even really care about it.
The only thing I learned about him is that he’s a jackass and when his dying father was like “Hey, i realized that being a jerk is a shitty thing to do and I regret it” Seijuro’s like “Hmm..he must have been crazy. So i’m going to be even MORE of a jackass!”
Look, I know this may sound harsh, but I had a father who died of an illness when I was in middle school and I wasn’t like “hmm…I think I’ll be an asshole and beat up people now!” I don’t sympathize with this guy, all it makes me do is realize just how weak of a character he is. I don’t know if they’re trying to make him seem tortured or something, but they’re not doing a very good job on making me care about him.
This episode though was not a very fun watch. Nothing really happened. Here’s the short version. “Grr i’m an asshole.” “You two should fight” “okay” “but let’s play a game instead!” “Fine!” “ha tricked you it was a different game”. That’s really about it.
Hopefully next episode that will involve the soccer game will be interesting and have more then….nothing happen.
All in all…not a great episode, well, not even a good one, but hey, at least it wasn’t them running around Akihabara.
Episode 4.5/10
