I have two questions for you, did you like Haruhi? Yes, good, now question two. Do you like things that are cute? If your answer to that was also yes, this is the series for you.
The Disappearance of Nagito Yuki is a spin off to the movie ‘The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.’ in which we see more of the universe that the movie took place in. Where instead of being a robot from another world, Yuki is a shy girl. Where Haruhi doesn’t even attend the same school as them, and instead of the S.O.S. Brigade. Yuki, Kyon and Ryoko are in the schools literature club.

The first thing anyone is going to notice with this series is the new animation. As this season is not being done by Kyoani, it’s bond to look different than the first first season or movie. This season it’s being animated by Statelight studio’s. It tends towards a more ‘moe’ style than the original series did, is this bad? welllll, no, it’s  strange and it’s going to take some getting used too for all fans of the series.
However, something that will make up for the animation shift is that the entire cast returned to reprise their original roles from the series. So there are no jarring shifts in voices for us to deal with.

The episode itself, was a bucket of cute. We begin right before Christmas, in which Yuki desires to throw a Christmas party. She really wants a turkey to go with the party, so they have to track down one. While in the shopping district, Ryoko and Tsuruya try to force a compitition between Mikuru and Yuki. Though in the end they really start getting into a competition with each other.

Events include selling things at a store, cooking, flower arranging, running. It’s pretty ridiculous. In the end it comes to a draw and they pretty much make friends with each other in that rivalish sort of way.

The two groups part ways and we go to the club room the next day where Kyon and Yuki work on the plans for the party together. Yuki keeps trying to design it too much like a wedding.
There is a dialogue that establishes that she wants to use this party to tell Kyon how she feels.

There isn’t much else to say, this was a set up episode for the party. It introduced some character relationships, showed that Haruhi and Itsuki are there. Just at the other school, by the ending I assume they’ll become involved in the plot somewhere. Next episode, there’s a Santa outfit and the episode is called ‘Joy to the World’ well, I have good feelings about this. What about you guys?

So, my question here is….this is before the movie. I can tell because Ryoko is fine and alive, and when Yuki and Haruhi passed each other. They didn’t know each other and they meet through the movie Kyon. So, my question is, will the movie’s plot intersect with the plot of this series? Wait no, this has to be a totally different timeline similar to the movies one because Kyon before the movie hadn’t joined the literature club.

AH timelines hurt my brain. We’ll get an explanation of some kind i’m sure. The first episode was cute, nothing ground breaking. The animation was a little jarring but nothing that ruins the series. I’m hopping once Haruhi and Itsuki join in with the activities that things will pick up a little bit. This could either just remain a cute slice of life or turn into a messed up mess of alternate timelines and such. We’ll see where it goes.

Possibility of watching: Gaurenteed
Possibility of blogging: I can’t pass up Kyon….no matter what universe. So, Absolutely.

If, at the end of the movie, Kyon had made the OTHER choice about which version of reality he wanted to live in, this seems like it would be the way things would have turned out, more or less. It could be that this show is supposed to represent that version of the timeline.

It could also be that I’ve been re-watching Amagami SS too much lately, and that I’ve got timelines on the brain.

I liked seeing the gang back together. I was surprised by how much I missed Tsuruya, of all people.
