Show By Rock!! Episode 3: Yes! Idol Declaration

Plasmagica gets into a battle of the bands to make themselves known. They’re up against a band of middle school girls from an elite music school, a school that can guarantee you fame. Things start off fine at first, but problems then arise when they hear the talent of their competitors and question their own talent.

Being bandmates and being friends are one thing and another. Just because you’re in a band it doesn’t mean you’re friends. We’ve seen a bunch of bands split up, for many reasons. While the girls of Plasmagica get along with each other, they’re not totally friends. They kind of go and do their own thing, but they get together to perform. We see this from Retoree’s point of view, and get a bit of her character. She’s always wanted to join a band and make friends, since she’s really bad at it. She gets scouted by Maple and meets Chuchu and Moa. When practice finishes, Retoree just kind of…leaves. She always drifts off from the others and keeps to herself. And I can really relate to that, as well as Cyan. So when the band feels discouraged after hearing Cristicrista’s rehearsal, Retoree brings up the fact that they’re not really friends, and their lack of talent, and almost walks away from their battle of the bands performance, until Cyan stops her.

Cyan, also being introverted, never really spoke to her bandmates during their practices about some things she had in mind that would make their song better. It wasn’t until Retoree was about to leave that she piped up and told them all about it, and they got their confidence back. They may not have won the battle of the bands, but at least they were able to become a little closer, and it really looks like they can be friends. Because of their introverted personalities, I think Retoree and Cyan will get along the best.

In this episode, we got introduced to a new all-girl band, called Cristicrista. I can’t say too much about them because they weren’t really the highlights of the episode. All we got was their song (which was pretty good), their names, the fact that they’re super cute, and that Rosia is fake as hell. I can see that, Chuchu can see that, we can all see that. They seem like a good rival band for Plasmagica, as they are another 4-member girl band. I hope to see more of them in the future, as I don’t feel much towards them as of right now. They’re colorful, they have matching skirts, and I personally think Jacklyn is the cutest. Next week we’re going to be introduced to another girl band, with a name that’s really too long for me to remember so I won’t even bother.

I just wonder when the whole “Cyan having to beat a monster” thing is going to show up again. I know it’s only been 3 episodes so far, but I’m guessing this is going to be a one-cour show? So I know the music aspect is important to the show, but you brought up an important plot, so I’m expecting another giant monster attacking next week. Aaaaaand Strawberry Heart is suspicious to me. I wonder what his deal is.

I liked this episode because we finally got to see the girls interact more, and become closer. As of right now, I can’t name my favorite in Plasmagica. They’re all just so cute. Retoree really grew on me this episode, I’ve always loved Cyan, I love Chuchu’s design, and Moa’s fluffy. And her alien species has a fluffy spaceship. It’s so great. I think right now it’s a tie between Cyan in her bunny pajamas, and Moa’s ahoge antennae which is literally an antennae she uses to communicate with her alien species, pyuru.
