Sailor Moon Crystal Ep 19 [ Guardian of the Underworld ]

Wow. Sailor Moon Crystal is finally back on it’s game and passed those redundant episodes featuring kidnapping as it’s main sense of drama. I can’t be more excited to get into all the fun new plot stuff, so let’s dive into the main premise: Chibi-Usa is finally willing to be honest and wants all of the remaining Guardians (Mamoru included) to return to her to. . .the future!!

We’ve got some interesting things going on this episode, my favorite is totally that Usagi and Mamoru slept together. Cause that’s what happened. It’s pretty obvious. They totally did it. And it was all thanks to being jealous over her own daughter! Hahaha, good going Usagi. But no seriously they totally did it and it was emotional and cry feels inducing. The original anime made a big deal if they ever kissed whereas the manga just threw it out there, so I’m happy to see a little of the latter.

Chibi-Usa takes everyone to return to the future with her, but the catch is that time travel is taboo. This causes us to finally get to see a very fun character – Sailor Pluto. You know it’s very fun to think about the nature of her existence being retconned and the like when you consider she is meant to watch over time for all eternity, maybe we could pretend the time she wasn’t a planet was when she actually got let out of the box? LOL. It’s just amusing to think about, but truthfully Pluto has always been a favorite Senshi of mine and given I won’t be seeing Uranus and Neptune anytime soon, if at all, I’m going to take what I can get.

I have to say Crystal really does nail the point home that the villains are much more powerful and exponentially more dangerous. This episode alone Esmeraude’s minions basically capture everyone in the group until a figure helps Mamoru break free with his own powers. Can I say again how awesome it is to have Mamoru be powerful? We already know the senshi are powerful, it’s slightly gratifying to see everyone has their strengths even when kidnapped or manipulated. Anyway, the Black Moon really wants the Crystal like every other villain and they know to attack Chibi-Usa to get it.

Once they’re free however, they are led to the Crystal Palace of the future, where they come face to face with the Phantom of . . King Endymion?! I love this show, it’s so fun to see them all freak out and realize these are their future selves. Congrats babies !!! Ugh it isn’t quite obvious to them yet Chibi-Usa is their daughter, but that’s why two weeks from now will be excellent. Realize it! I love revelation moments like these very much. I’m also anticipating the results of all this business and the Black Moon arc development. All I can do is say, hooray for two weeks from now!
