We are back with Ore Monogatari and all I have to say after last week is THANK GOD. They cut through all the will they won’t they bullshit and by episode 3 they’re a couple. This is definitely a bold step in the right direction. and I like it. So now that they’re a couple, where do we go from here? That’s exactly the question that episode 4 answers. So let’s jump right in.

So the episode starts up with Yamato and Takeo both being happy together. She brings him more sweets and he’s deliriously happy about it.

We also see a few more scenes that remind us that Suna is very popular with the ladies while Takeo is very popular with dudes.

Yamato takes a selfie with the two of them but then gets a phone call from her friends. They seem to want her and her boyfriend to host a singles meetup where Takeo will bring along 5 of his friends (Suna included). Since he has a lot of male friends, he agrees.

So goes to ask his friends and before he can even tell them about it, the minute he tells them he has a girlfriend they all cheer and throw him up in the air. I gotta say, I busted out laughing.

(Snicker) damn it those guys are funny
(Snicker) damn it those guys are funny

He does manage to get four and on the way home Takeo comments that since Yamato’s nice, her friends must be nice too. Suna however  points out that sometimes nice people just put up with mean people because they’re too nice. (aha! methinks Suna has some self esteem issues)

So they arrive at the place and all the girls meet Takeo and they are flabbergasted at his appearance. Regardless the meeting goes over okay until 2 of the girls go to the bathroom. They don’t come back for a long time so Takeo and Yamato go to check on them.

However on the way back they hear them bad mouthing Takeo. This causes Yamato to run out crying and Takeo chases her.

Awww.... you bitches
Awww…. you bitches

After catching up Takeo tells her that it’s okay and he really wasn’t hurt by it. After calming down, they start to head back, only for the building they were just in to catch fire.

Everyone makes it out except for the two bitches that insulted him and so, like the gent he is, Takeo runs back in to save them.

He saves the first one no problem, but when saving the second one a bunch of stuff collapses on him and he gets trapped.

This is when the episode gets sad as basically he consigns himself to die saying that at least he got to know Yamato.

Suna calls him on his cell and tells him that he can’t die (in his normal flat monotone voice) so Take fucking JUMPS OUT OF A WINDOW WITH AN EXPLOSION BEHIND HIM.

Yippie Ki Yay!
Yippie Ki Yay!

Everyone’s extremely relieved to see he’s alive, the girls are extremely apologetic and even blush when they see how cool he was, even though they don’t know why.

And so the episode ends with everything back to normal and everyone feeling better about themselves.

Man, I gotta say, I’m loving this show. Every week it just brings something new to the table and doesn’t disappoint. Episode 1 was about loneliness, 2 was about the inability to see one’s own worth, episode 3 was finding happiness, and 4 is dealing with the ramifications of how different they are.

It seems every episode i’ve seen just sucks me more and more into this show.

I was actually very excited for this episode as I wanted to see what they were going to do now that they’re a couple and where they would go from here. and it did not disappoint. I’m not tired of these characters, I don’t feel their story is over just because they’re together, I want to see them grow and become even better characters and even more in love.

D'aw. Still adorable

This episode shows that you don’t need to be trying to find a relationship to have drama. There’s plenty once you’re already in one.

This is a series with no villains, no real overarching problem, and yet, it feels like a great story i being told and I’m glad I get to be a part of it. The fact that he is this big guy that society doesn’t deem “sexy” isn’t a novelty to the story, it’s tied so integrally into it that it’s what makes it interesting.

Yes, there are a few moments where you have to suspend your disbelief such as holding up steel girders and jumping out of exploding buildings, but that gives it a charm as well. All in all, fantastic episode and I can’t WAIT for next week.

Episode 8.5/10
