Gunslinger Stratos Episode 2 [ Time Travel Massacre?! ]

Alright, Gunslinger Stratos. This anime. This anime sure has a lot of plots that need to be talked about so let’s just give a fun summary of the premise: Currently there is a worldwide phenomenom causing spontaneous death known as ‘Desert Syndrome’ which causes people to literally turn to sand out of nowhere. A mysterious group of seers contain the answer to stop this, but their condition is they will only give the answer to the winners of a fight- a fight against people’s dimensional counterparts. So the premise of Gunslinger Stratos as per episode 2 is this: WRECK YOSELF BEFORE YOU CHECK YOSELF. Or something similar. Had to watch it a few times to get it but the premise is simple enough.

This is a very interesting series. I’m kind of invested in the plot even though it can be pretty ambiguous. Basically a bunch of crow seers are saying: use a magical force of power known as energy cubes. Fight. Profit. And of course our protagonist, Kazasingsongdamnshitgetashortername, is being pressured to join and fight these people. He’s special and can fight his alternate self much easier because he doesn’t need a time machine to travel dimensions. I like his other self better. He’s a douche. I like douchebags.

I think so far my big problem is I find a lot of the actual character moments are blah. I’m not really interested in most people, perhaps Kyoka’s brother. I’m far more interested in the way this world works. Of course I want to know why the seers are doing this, what in the universe they get. I want to know what in particular is causing the Desert Syndrome and I wonder if it might have something to do with their alternative selves? Right now even though the characters could use a real personality facelift I’m actually interested in the world and want everyone to shut the fuck up and gun fight.

You might as well put me on the same level as the seers because I feel infinite joy when people start shooting at each other’s shit. Let’s be for real here: gunslinger stratos is my eye candy porn show of this series and I want to see building explode and feelings get crushed under the power of energy cubes. We had a lot of buildup this episode trying to convince the main character to join in the fight, and we knew where it was going.

I’m hopeful. I think the badass fight scenes can keep me invested until the plot gets even more confusing and interesting. Guess we’ll have to see!
