I don’t always enjoy filler episodes, but when I do, they are always good. Kirara was given an opportunity to participate in a TV Spot for an episode where they were going to report Marble’s Doughnuts new flavours. While Kirara is a very busy person, if it’s about covering new flavours of her favourite doughnut place, she will gladly cast everything aside and make it her top priority. However what she didn’t realize was that she would be co-starring with the main reporter, Ranko- who has established an intense one-sided rivalry against her.
I think most of us can agree Ranko is an extremely obnoxious character, but somehow, despite the fact I didn’t particularly like her, I was quite entertained by her. I suppose it had to do with that fire burning rivalry she harbours within her as she wants to make sure she will always being the center of attention of everything in order to achieve her dream of being a Top Star- or so everyone had all thought before Shut went ahead to lock away her dream only to reveal she wants to be a Top Idol. It was fun to watch Kirara go up against her, and it was even better to see her not bother looking back when Ranko had fallen face first into the ground. Had it been Haruka in her shoes, there is no doubt in my mind she would have stopped to help her get back onto her feet. But this is Kirara, and there were new flavour doughnuts on the line- to hell with the goodie-shoes! IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DOUGHNUTS!
Hands dow the most hilarious aspect of the episode was how the characters had no idea what was happening anymore. Long story short, this episode was a pure gag fest. From Haruka’s ribbons jokes to Ranko’s overly dramatic scenes, it was simply a fun and stress free episode to watch. I think one of the underrated parts was how Shut who had arrived at the scene to create chaos was quickly overshadowed by the on-going hilarity, and didn’t even get the chance to say or really do anything other than lock up the dream. You know he had ultimately failed if everyone long forgotten he was even there to begin with.
It was great to see what the rods can do individually before the final cleansing process. I absolutely loved the rods’ effects, even more so than the first purification edition. Cure Flora’s Rose Rod is magnificent, and I was super impressed to see Kirara’s Luna’s effect to be an actual Full Moon. Raise your hand if you were expecting it to be a Crescent Moon, because I sure did. As for Minami’s Frozen Ripple, I felt more or less indifferent about it since it didn’t particularly stand out to me.
Next week the Dark Princess is coming! HELL YEAH, I AM SO PSYCHED FOR THIS. It appears based on the preview Haruka will be inspired to pick up the violin after seeing our Dark Princess playing up on the hill top. But with that awesome malicious smirk, I am so excited to see what she will be bringing and how powerful she will be.
PS: Yui is officially part of Team Precure! :Db
Tha tdirector should be fired for letting Ranko keep trying to steal the spotlight… and why the heck did everything suddenly turn into a competition?! And where did all those ribbons come from?!
I muchly disapprove of the girls wasting their super finisher on a perfectly ordinary enemy. There was no need to break out Trinity Lumiere here: all that does is help guarantee it won’t be effective the next time they really DO need it.
Anyway, looking forward to the dark princess next week. Let’s see how this goes.
I agree, the Trinity Lumiere did feel a bit over the top with this particular Zetsuborg. The only thing I can think of is that it was supposed to be interpreted as reasonable since Ranko’s dream was all fired up/powerful, requiring them to do so. But if it ends up as part of their new routine (especially with the Dark princess entering the spotlight next week), just as you said, it’s will end up being rendered weak/useless sooner than later.
This move can defeat one of the general. That’s why it feels too over power to use it with an ordinary Zetsuborg (and a donut at that!). I agree about your interpretation. Ranko’s dream was so powerful that she could even argue with Shut! Donut is serious business in Precure. I wonder if we will get “Donut save the universe” episode again. lol
I like your review and I’m glad that you get all the jokes in this episode. I also like it that you don’t make a fuss about the director allowing Ranko to disturb and steal the focus from Kirara. I may be probably bias but, like you said, this is a full gag episode. That’s why I don’t take things too serious. My most favorite part is when Shut opened Ranko’s dream and when Minami said “Wasn’t her dream about becoming an idol?” The writer really had a lot of fun in this episode. He/she even mocked the series itself. lol
Well, your lack of mentioning about Minami makes me sad though. She was the one who planned to trap the Zetsuborg. You need to give her some credit for that. :p Minami currently gets the least attention in the series. IMO It’s probably because she is so perfect in every ways. Just look at next episode preview, you can tell it right away that she is also good at playing violin. That’s why it’s hard to develop her any further. +sigh I love all Cures in this season. I do hope that they can balance out and give attention to all Cures equally.
I tend to leave things out if I don’t really have anything to say about them, and I find this is something I have problems with Minami due to in some cases lacking the time spotlight. And it’s just as you said, she appears to be so perfect in every way, it makes her harder to develop as a character and I do find that Haruka and Kirara tend to get more of the spotlight, perhaps even seemingly so because of their upbeat energetic personalities overshadowing her. Here’s to hoping for things to balance out from here out into the future episodes!
Hands down also to the staff of this week’s episode especially to Sayuri Yahagi, the seiyuu behind Izumi Segawa of Hayate no Gotoku!, for a wonderful job! I’ve already got some good vibes after an intense fight fill with donuts.
Haru-Haru’s ribbon jokes really made Yui-Yui (damn my goodness, even the Princess Cures’ helper and Seiji’s cutie predecessor didn’t survived the nickname basis by our sparkling Kirara!) and us fans quite gone wild. Kirara’s manager may be hot but when it comes to handling her talent, she assures that Kirara will be fine like a piece of cake. Ranko seemed to be too aggressive in my point, but it’s nice to have her dream to be a top TV celebrity a pretty good intention. I was totally laughed at the marathon part when Haru-Haru and co and the random peeps were calling for Mr Brave Donuts into an awesome overdramatic way to the finish line.
Anyway, you’re forgot to mention Mermaid’s Frozen Ripple finisher in which reminds me much of Beauty’s Beauty Blizzard finisher back in Smile! (Now what? I’m about to sing “Let It Go” for this. XD), and made the Donut Zetsuborg stop. Nonetheless I totally loved the Princess Rod finishers right now.
I’m betting as hell that Miyuki Sawashiro (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun’s Yuzuki Seo) will be do Twilight’s voice, but let’s just see plus the black key was already mentioned in the preview! But I wonder what it could be since it didn’t include in the 12 keys, though I have to get some more investigation about her existence starting next week.
Oh yeah, Yui-Yui did a good job in evacuating the peeps from the fight as well as, like Seiji, analyzing and observing on the Princess Cures’ movements and serving as the cheerer! Keep the fire burning, Yui-Yui. 😉
As I was saying to HoHo, I tend to leave things out if I don’t have anything to say about them, this applies to Mermaid’s Frozen Ripple, (though I probably should have added I felt more or less indifferent about it- actually I think I’ll add that now).
If the Black Key was never included with the others, it makes me speculate if there are possibly counter parts, ones which I imagine would be for the purpose of Locking Up Dreams- OR: perhaps Dyspear had already found a few and managed to taint one (or few) to work for her purposes.
Sorry late to comment, but I think compared to last week there’s not much to comment other than this is very funny episode. And the director probably want Ranko to do more hammy performance. You know, to increase rating, right? Just like in real life, even the actress or actor may be annoying to some if not majority people.
Speaking about Twilight, it was confirmed that Miyuki Sawashiro is the one that will be voiced her. Sorry, but I didn’t have any prize for your correct guess.
That’s all from me
Ranko is verysimilar to Akira from Lucky Star, with the constant switching between cute/douchy, even voice is similar
