So first off, I have to come out and say it, I take back what i said last week. They’re not creative, they’re not original, and, although I had trepidation, I still fell for it last week. And i’m pissed off. What about? Let’s start.
So the episode starts up and Takeru is said at the boar’s death as he sees things in the house that reminds him of her. Nyatan tries to cheer him up and that works a bit, so they decide to go to the maid cafe and hang out to take his mind off it. And of course there, alive and well is the boar girl.
(sigh) okay look. I didn’t have any delusions that she would remain dead for the whole series. What I DIDN’T think is that they’d bring her back the very next episode with the weak explanation of “oh, I was reincarnated.”
That isn’t funny, that doesn’t make us give a single shit, all that does is piss us off. Killing a character off only to instantly bring them back less than an episode later with no repercussions is not good story telling. All it serves to do is throw a cheap heart tug at us and then piss us off to the point that we’ll not be interested if anything like that ever happens again. This is the boy who cried wolf Etotama, and you’re the boy.
Sorry about that little side rant, but that REALLY pissed me off about this episode.
Anyway, after we find out she’s alive we learn that Nya-tan is still trying to figure out what kind of character she should be. The rabbit girl then proceeds to tell her that she has no idea what being a good character is and proceeds to also tell the dog, monkey, boar, and rooster that they do not have good personalities for their own different reasons. They decide the best way to deal with this is for the rabbit to give them “character lessons” (I know it’s weird, just go with it)
Upon arriving at the house she gives the dog and monkey new designs but tells Nya-tan that because he’s not a member of the zodiac, she has to pay. Nya-tan challenges her that if she wins, the rabbit has to do it for free. She accepts and they “battle” and by battle I mean the rabbit girl dresses up like alice from alice in wonderland and has a rock paper scissors battle. Cause you know….battle?
After two losses, Nya-tan grabs the rabbit girl’s leg which apparently makes her orgasm, lose focus and she wins. No. No i’m not joking.
She gets the rabbit girl’s sol/lull badge and that’s basically where the episode ends.
Ugh. This episode. This..this was not a good one. For several reasons.
- The return of the boar girl. Look. You don’t want to kill a character. Fine. But if you’re going to do that, don’t pretend as if she’s going to stay dead. Don’t do a sad ending with a “goodbye” screen only to have her come back next episode with no repercussions. That’s stupid and cheap.
-
The entire premise of this episode was “Trying to become a character that stands out.” and look. Nya-tan DOES have a character. It’ just stupid, annoying, and crappy. If you couldn’t tell, no, I don’t like Nya-tan. She’s really really annoying. I don’t know WHAT her big issue is about wanting to be a “character” but it’s weird and meta and just doesn’t work right.
And hey, by the way rabbit lady, fuck you Rooster girl’s adorable.
Seriously. I’D date her.
- The battle. I mean…it wasn’t really a battle…it was like…rock paper scissors. Which…is..odd. I mean, they spent so much time on the whole “character” thing that they only had abbout 4 minutes for the fight and they spent most of it posturing. Boring
-
NYA-TAN IS NOT A GOOD MAIN CHARACTER. As I said last week, at least four of the girls are far more interesting than her. There’s a problem when you don’t WANT to see the main character succeed. I don’t care if she wins, in fact I hope she doesn’t. That’s not good writing.
Overall, this was a very weak episode. And honestly, if it wasn’t for the other character I really like in this show I don’t even know if I’d continue it, but because of Rooster, Mouse, Tiger, and Cow, I’ll keep going. All I gotta say is, damn it show. You better not suck next week.
Episode 3/10
