Can’t read my, can’t read my, no he can’t read my POKER FACE
Wow! I haven’t seen such a stimulating psychological battle in….well, ever! Jotaro honestly has the best poker face, and the fact that he was bluffing the entire time was even better. I love him, can’t you tell I love him? He knows how to pick at his enemies weaknesses, and he’s pretty clever himself. He is so crazy. This is a little hard for me to explain, since this episode is a straight up poker game. Luckily, they narrated some of the rules and hands of poker, so I wasn’t totally confused. I would say this episode, as well as the previous one, is better off being watched than explain, but I’ll do my best.
To start off, Jotaro asks D’Arby to shuffle the card deck. He does, and Jotaro then guesses what the first card is, and he’s right. He then lists off the rest of the cards, and he gets them correct in that order. Using Star Platinum, he saw the cards when D’Arby shuffled. Trying to make it so he doesn’t cheat. They set up the game, and D’Arby distributes the cards, but all of a sudden, Jotaro sends out Star Platinum and breaks his finger. He caught him giving him the cards under the top, the second card. He doesn’t want D’Arby to cheat, and so Jotaro proposes a child playing on a hill to deal the cards to them, so they don’t risk cheating.
Just like any poker game, they have poker chips. The poker chips are of Joseph and Polnareff, Osiris making multiple. Of course Jotaro is betting on his soul, so D’Arby also takes out white poker chips. There are 6 of each, the kid deals the cards, and so they start. Jotaro wagers three of his own soul chips, and shows his hand. It looks pretty good at first, but then D’Arby shows his and has the upper hand, so Jotaro already is close to losing. For the next round, the child deals the men their cards, but Jotaro doesn’t even pick up his cards, because he says he doesn’t even need to. Commence D’Arby freaking out. Interesting to know, this asshole was cheating from the start. The little kid dealing the cards? He works for D’Arby, and made sure to give D’Arby the best cards (four 10’s) and giving Jotaro the useless ones. The men in the cafe? Also working for him. Even the owner.
So D’Arby freaks out by Jotaro’s confidence. Jotaro randomly lit a cigarette out of nowhere without him noticing, and got a drink without him noticing, so he got paranoid and thought that maybe Star Platinum switched the cards when he wasn’t looking. D’Arby then bets on everything, but Jotaro doesn’t have enough chips. So Jotaro bets on Avdol’s soul, and then Kakyoin even though he’s not there. D’Arby is freaking out more, afraid of Jotaro’s confidence. To further this, to raise the stakes, Jotaro even bets on his mother’s soul. Holy crap. But D’Arby needs to match that, and so Jotaro says to do that…he needs to tell him about Dio’s Stand.
UH OH. If he does tell Jotaro, then that means death from Dio. If he doesn’t, then that means his pride as a gambler. Well, it got the best of him, and he passed out, and lost. Polnareff and Joseph get their souls back. Also, the other souls D’Arby had taken before have also returned. Funnily enough, Jotaro really did have the crappy cards, just like the kid had done on purpose. He even said if he had looked at them, he would have freaked out. He, Jotaro Kujo, who never loses his cool, would have freaked out? Holy shit. He even admits how dangerous D’Arby was, so that says a lot. Well, that’s the end of D’Arby.
Next week is Hol Horse? Honestly I completely forgot about him. He’s going to be teaming up with Mondatta (Boingo? Which name should I go with?) I thought the kid was in the hospital with his dumb brother? I hope this doesn’t mean that other past Stand users that weren’t killed are going to make appearances again. No offense BUT I WANT TO GET TO DIO. Well, I’m pretty sure D’Arby isn’t going to be showing his face again.
Also, I guess Japan has strong negative feelings of showing minors smoking on TV, because they censored Jotaro smoking. And it was so ugly, like lol a small black rectangle over his mouth. I thought there was something wrong with the video.
They didn’t exactly have problem with Jotaro smoking. What they do have problem is that Jotaro is 17 old, thus underage in terms of smoking. Currently in both cases of Jotaro smoking, it has been necessary for the story. The manga writer didn’t throw that in to make Jotaro cool. We’ll get it back on Bluray.
