Well, as everyone knows, everything went to hell last week. Straight to it, in a handbasket. So we pick up where with left off, with a bunch of things going on as they always are in this series.
We’ll pause the chaos to give you Akane’s backstory though. I mean, I guess there is nothing else to think about while fleeing through the city on a carriage being pulled along by a headless horse through the city. I mean, how did it all come to this?
Well, it all started with a cell phone, school and some bullying. Akane noticed this girl being bullied and went over and told the girls who did it that bullying was wrong. The next day, everything changed and she believed that they’d listened to her words. They became friends, all the girls in her class. At this time, she has no idea what her real family business was.
Things went on like that until she left her cell phone over at one of her friends houses on accident, then, she overheard it. The girls mom talking to her, and then witnessed her friends parents bring the cell phone over and apologize a bunch. This is when she decides to look into why people think her family is so scary. She does a google search of her last name and well, of course it comes up with the Yakuza ties.
So, at that time, she realized all of her happiness with her friends was a total lie.
Things at home fall apart and she begins posting her problems on a site and who picks up on people who post their problems on sites? WHY Nakura [Izaya] of course! So, after a bit of exchanging online, she goes to meet with Nakura. However, instead of going himself, he sends Namine in his place.
Eventually, she starts meeting someone CALLING themselves Izaya Orihara.
As a woman in love, I can tell you that, that is not Izaya. Okay, even as a casual viewer, the brown hair, the necklace, you can dress someone in Izaya’s clothes but let’s be honest with ourselves here. We know that’s not Izaya. So eventually, it comes to the point where she’s told by ‘Izaya’ that Shizuo is going to kill her and her family. Then we come back to the present day.
Oh boy, so the rest of the episode is a bunch of the other plotlines moving forward. Aoba discovering the black string that Celty left on the back of someones bike, Kodota moving the location and beginning his fight with Chikage. Which Mikado runs off to get involved in since a huge text went out about it. Verona goes off after him, leaving Slon to keep an eye on Clety and Akane.
Then Anri runs out to go get involved in preventing a kidnapping of one of Chikage’s girlfriends. Who is out with someone who looks oddly familiar…where do I know her from? WAIT, THAT’S THE CHICK IZAYA ALMOST GETS TO COMMIT SUICIDE IN EPISODE 1 OF SEASON 1! Wow, layers within layers right?
Let’s see, what else? Oh, well Shizuo is still on the run. Not a lot happened with him this episode. Though, Shinra is speaking with Shiki and asks, as a doctor of course. To see the conditions of the bodies of his men. Shiki throws him and camera and he looks at it and comments that it’s not Shizuo’s work. That it’s too neat, the guys would be even more messed up if it was Shizuo.
Shiki asks who else it could be, that could beat up his men with their bare hands. Then, he thinks about it and realizes, that Hollywood could of done it.
Now what about Izaya this episode? We have a good chunk of time with him, talking to Masaomi about the possibility of Izaya stealing his internet handle to talk to Mikado. Izaya says that if Masaomi really believes that he stole it, it should be easy enough to message Mikado and tell him ‘That wasn’t me yesterday, it was Izaya’ because after all, their best friends right? Even after all of the events of season 1.
Oh poor gullible Mikado.
I got the down time episode, where things are happening but they’re on the slow down between large spikes of action. I loved the Akane backstory, she’s really adorable. I hope nothing bad happens to her and that Celty will protect her. Looks like the action will spike back up next episode, I saw Anri with the Saika eyes! So this is going to be fun!
