I’m not going to lie, these past episodes have been pretty boring. And again, I have to say the same about this episode too. It wasn’t until the very end of the episode where I could say that the entire time wasn’t a total drag. Log Horizon has always been a slow show, but it always managed to fascinate me and keep my interest. I like the newbies and all, but their journey so far has been going on for a little too long, and I think the past three episodes could have been condensed into one or two. So, what was in today’s episode?
A lot of talking, that’s for sure.
Not that it’s bad, because I rather liked the conversation Rudy and Isuzu had, because we never really see them talk seriously enough. We learn even more about Isuzu. Turns out her father was actually a rock n roll star, and he became a pro. But just like many people that want to become pro musicians, they don’t last long after they play their major debut hit. Rudy says that she can go pro, but she explains just how difficult it is. She also learns from Rudy that the People of the Land only know 42 songs, which is why they call music “forty-two”. So when he says Isuzu’s new music really resonated with the people, it touched her. She never put her future in mind, but the next day she’s in her room probably composing music. It was a pretty long conversation, and I don’t want to summarize everything, but this was a moment where Rudy and Isuzu were actually talking seriously with each other.
One interesting thing we learned in this episode was the “auto translater”. Apparently the language between the adventurers and the People of the Land are actually a little different, so sometimes there might be some misunderstandings, as we see when Rudy said forty-two when referring music, and a story Serara told Minori. Of course it can also let you speak with foreign players. I don’t know if that’s really important, but I thought that was pretty cool.
More talking happens, I don’t want to go into it. Tohya now seems a little tense around Dariella, which was weird from his behavior last episode. Serara and Minori head into town to repair their summoning whistle, since they won’t be able to depend on Roe 2 forever. They come across the Odyssey Knights again, and this time they feel something weird when they’re around the mobile Cathedral thing. They’re actually having trouble calling with telepathy, which Shiroe is actually having trouble with too. Dariella explained before that the invention messes with the voices in the hearts of adventurers, so could it be telepathy?
Suddenly, the sky turns dark, and it looks like a black cloud is moving rapidly in the sky. Except it’s not a black cloud. It’s actually a horde of wyvern, which the newbies needed to find for their journey. Except it’s too many of them with high levels. The episode ends with Nyanta standing on a cliff, facing the wyvern.
This episode is better watched then explained because it was mostly conversation. It looks like things are finally going to get moving again in the next episode, and I certainly hope so because my patience has been thinning these past few weeks. I’d really like this series to hurry. Sometimes it can be a little too slow, and for some people it can turn them off. I want to see what Plant something or other is gonna do, I want to see Shiroe’s plans go through, I WANNA KNOW WHERE CRUSTY IS. I just wish the pacing would go a little faster, though I do appreciate the wonderful character development from the first half.
Also, Akatsuki spinning from the ceiling made this episode a lot better.
