This episode is beautiful, it has a little bit of everything I’ve wanted to see in this series and more. What made this episode great? Well let’s start at the beginning. Shinichi and Migi speak about the person tailing him [who I will still refer to at Raye Penber.] and decide that they need to table the idea of killing him since Shinichi is so obviously against killing humans.
Instead they need to investigate him. But how? How are they going to investigate him in turn. With the help of an old friend, Uda and his parasite who now has a name. His name is Joe, which sounds like jaw. Yeah, they kind of suck with names but let’s not fault them too much for it.
Meanwhile, Raye gets fired by Ryoko who I learned this episode is going by Reiko now so now I can call her by her new name. The poor guy is just trying to make sense of what he saw and he feels like he’s going crazy.
So while continuing his investigation of Shinichi, Uda sends a signal to Shinichi saying that he’s near by and Shinichi captures him and they take him to a safe, out of the way place to talk.
Shinichi explains his view of the story to the Private Investigator.
I LOVED this part of the episode, when he’s done his story the Private Investigator tells him that he should turn himself in for the sake of mankind and become a lab rat and Migi and Joe immediately jump into weapon mode and go to attack him.
What makes this awesome is the fact that when Shinichi tells them to stop. They both stop, and then Migi verbally RIPS INTO THIS GUY. You know Migi doesn’t have an emotions, he only cares for himself but everything he says is tailored to pull at your heart strings and defending Shinichi and everyting he’s gone through. Questioning if he could of gone through the same.
It’s fantastic, so after Migi…talks him into understanding. They inform him that he should probably back off for his own safety, not from them but from his employeer who is also a Parasite. Ryoko, now known as Reiko. So after they leave, Shinichi goes home and gets a call from Reiko and she asks him to meet her at the roof of a university.
He goes to meet her and we get to view the college siminar she is attending on DNA and behavioral patrons. I could paraphrase everything the professor says here but i’d rather not. It fits well with the theme of the show and I know it’s actual scientific views but I just hate this line of thinking….well you know what? Watch the episode if you’re really interested in the siminar.
So Reiko meets up with Shinichi, baby in arms.
This is the most tense scene in anime history. I just, can’t even with this scene. You can sense every tense motion as Reiko pushes on Shinichi’s buttons. She USES HER BABY AS A SHEILD TO PREVENT SHINICHI FROM ATTACKING HER! I can’t guys, I CAN’T. So, she leaves the scene and Shinichi runs after her but doesn’t end up catching her.
When he stops running, he meets with a fortune teller and she asks for his hand. He hands over his left hand and she observes that there is a hole in his heart. A large gaping hole.
I don’t think she knows how accurate she is. He asks what to do about it and she tells him that he needs to go back and face the one that put the hole there. His reponse? As he remembers his mother turning into the Parasyte.
“I killed her.”
WOAH, um, so what are the consequences of saying that out loud are going to be? This episode was a heavy focus on Shinichi and Reiko both. As Shinichi slowly becomes less and less human. She continues to learn more and more human things, such as laughter. However, she needs to work on the facial expression that goes with laughter. That is some Higurashi level insane laughter you have going there Reiko and if she keeps that up someone is going to think she’s crazy and seek locking her up. If child servies doesn’t get there first….
[ Pro tip: Don’t carry your baby like this.]
I feel like we’re headed towards a final confrontation between Reiko and Shinichi soon. There is also the problem of the Parasites in the government. I wonder how soon more people are going to find out about the Parasites and do something about them? Well, any way. Episode 15: “Something Wicked this way comes”
WOAH, this is the first time i’ve noticed all of the episode titles are books. Also, it’s the only one i’ve read out of all the episodes so far. Now I need to double back and take a look at all the books and see if they tie into the episodes themes at all.
~Midnight
Tamia is becoming more human/developing a more human side, while Izumi is becoming less human/developing a less human side? That’s sweet and scary all in one.
Was that lecture a foreshadowing for the possibility of Tamia sacrificing herself for the sake of her child?
I’m also very glad that the investigator didn’t have to die, especially after we learned he has a family. Perhaps he’ll come in more handy for finding out what the politicians are doing!
Oh! And that lecture that Migi gave! DAAAMMN! Migi laying down the defense for Izumi! :D
