Log Horizon S2 Episode 14

We take a break from the group in Akihabara, and move on to a special group in the Chinese server of Elder Tale. We come to this story from one of the members of the Tea Party guild, KR. He’s talking to Mr. Samurai (forgot his name) while they’re both looking down at this giant black…thing. KR mentions that Kanami is also in the game, but in the China server.

Using a soul possession, KR put his soul into a horse and sent himself out of the Japan server and into the China. He comes across Kanami and a few others fighting an impossible amount of enemies, and they managed to escape.

They have their reunion and get to talking. Apparently Kanami had moved overseas and quit playing Elder Tale, but then she got back into it when she was in Rome. She’s in the China server because she’s heading to Japan. She knows that in Yamato, they’re calling this weird being in the video game world thing the “Apocalypse”. And she wants to figure out why this happened. She thinks it has to do with the Novasphere Pioneers, the 12th expansion pack implemented into the game. Makes sense since this situation happened when the expansion pack was put in. Since the expansion pack was supposed to go live at midnight, it was only implemented there and not anywhere else because of time zones. And basically that’s Kanami’s mission.

Other companions join her, such as ninja-frog Leonardo, a quiet cleric named Coppelia, and a Person of the Land of a prominent knighthood (like the Royal Guards in the Yamato Server) named Erius. They all have their reasons for following her, but we only find out from Coppelia. She’s also an NPC, and she basically acts like a robot like she usually would if she were in the game, such as repeatedly asking others if they need healing. But Kanami was able to see past that when meeting her.

What we see is the group coming across a situation somewhere that a weird phenomenon happens where a random person in a village goes berserk and attacks everyone, which everyone dubbed Plague Demon. No one knows the cause, and what’s strange about it is that when checking the person’s status, they have a double status. Kanami decides to help, because that’s the type of person she is. Getting info from someone from a guild carrying supplies, it sounds dangerous. There are two villains, a giant dragon that can easily wipe them out, and a whole army of rabid bipedal wolves. Leonardo thinks it’s crazy and doesn’t understand why Kanami would want to help a bunch of NPCs, but eventually he joins everyone later, with KR transforming back into his avatar self, and summons his own dragon.

They enter from the sky, while the others fight on the ground. Leonardo defeats the evil spider pig-tailed girl. Erius almost has a breakdown against the other villain when telling him he’s a fake, but Kanami comes in like a badass and gives a power of friendship speech. But then the story comes to an abrupt end because KR doesn’t know what happened after that, he had left then. Kanami is still the same crazy girl, and even though he didn’t see how the end of the fight, he knows Kanami will arrive in Yamato. No one else in the Debauchery Tea Party guild knows this, just to make the reunion even more “special”. We then end the episode on a scary note, as Intix and Nureha enter that black vehicle, with someone mentioning summoning magic circles.

We have no idea what they’re trying to do, but when war is mentioned, you know it’s going to be bad. This was a fun episode because we finally got a look at Kanami and what she’s doing. Shiroe usually mentioned her, and even though she’s crazy, she’s held in high regard. Surely, we’ll be seeing her in the anime later, along with her other companions I hope. I really like her attitude.
