We take a break from the laughs from last week and go back to typical gore and darkness familiar with this show.
Kakyoin receives the news that he’ll be fine, but he needs to stay in the hospital longer. N’doul didn’t slice his pupils, so he should be okay. Since he needs to stay in the hospital still, the guys are going to keep going (because they really don’t have a lot of time) and Kakyoin is just going to catch up to them later.
We get a look at four traveling men, farmers. They complain about the boy, Chaka, behind them being weak, but it’s then that he notices a sword lying on the ground. It’s sheath is shiny and beautiful, and the men clamor together (taking it away from Chaka) and wondering if they could sell it and make themselves rich. They try taking the sword out of its sheath, but the more they try to, they just can’t. None of them can, until Chaka decides to try. And sure enough, he was able to take it out easily. Once holding the sword, he can hear the sword ringing. His father tries to grab the sword from him, but Chaka “accidentally” stabs him through his heart. As one of the other men try to help him, the sword moves by itself and kills the other man. The sword is possessed by the Stand, Anubis, and has let Chaka take control of him, giving him the power to slice through anything. Chaka grabs the sword and lunges at the other man still alive. He hid behind a cow, and Chaka swung at it. Knowing Araki and seeing many other animals die in this series, I thought the cow was going to be sliced. But it wasn’t. Only the man was sliced in half, with the cow unharmed. And so he sets off.
Our main boys take a ferry and make a stop at a small town, and they gotta wait for the next boat to take them to Edfu. Polnareff complains and while speaking with a guy trying to sell him fake papyrus, the rest of the guys leave him and they’re separated. Iggy takes the gum from his hand and Polnareff chases after him to some ruins, where there’s actually many people around. And with no surprise attack or anything, Chaka follows him and Polnareff immediately knew he was a Stand user, and also noted how odd his actions were.
And so they fight. The reason before why Chaka didn’t kill the cow is because he can’t slice through matter, as what happens when he slices through a pillar, instead of cutting it in half. This brings Polnareff at a disadvantage, resulting in minor injuries, but has an idea when jumping on top of a pillar. Chaka though can actually cut a pillar in half, but before being crushed, Polnareff used a secret technique, making Silver Chariot’s blade detach and ricochet off a pillar, and striking Chaka in the neck, ending the fight. He didn’t kill him, but he’s down.
He grabs the sword and can feel the power from Anubis. I thought he was going to become possessed, but he snapped out of it when Iggy suddenly barked at him, and Joseph and the others arrived, leaving for their next boat, Polnareff taking the sword with him.
In their hotel, they agree they need to turn in the sword to the police because it’s super dangerous. Joseph told everyone they need to be in pairs if they go out, so he tells Jotaro to go with him. They leave, but because Polnareff is so damn chill all the time, they actually go to a barber shop first. Because…shit I don’t know. If I were him I’d want that sword away from me quick, but of course they have to make a random pit stop. Jotaro falls asleep while Polnareff gets his face shaved (not like he’s got facial hair or anything). When he opens his eyes, he’s surprised to see that the barber became possessed by the sword and is holding the blade to his neck.
Is it just me, or has Polnareff been the focus of a lot of these episodes? Even more than Jotaro? Anyway, typical Polnareff. I don’t necessarily hate him, but he is my least favorite of the group. He can be pretty funny and make the group more lively, because the boys are pretty serious, but it gets to the point where Polnareff’s laid-back attitude and mistakes is a little…annoying. Also, what’s interesting about Anubis is that it possesses people, it doesn’t have just one user. It can control as many people as it want. So one user becomes unconscious or gets killed, the sword can just find another person. The guys should figure out that they just need to destroy the sword…
Also, these guys just didn’t think it was weird that Iggy was growling and barking at the sword the whole time they had it? Yeah, that should have been a clear sign that there was something seriously wrong with the sword.
