Once again, we are back to the anime about making anime, aka animeception. And once again, I was pleasantly surprised by this week. (what is it about this week and things being pretty good?) But what happened? Well, i’ll do my best to explain what happened, because as I’ve said in the past, recapping this show is NOT easy.
So we start off with Miya’s boss telling her that they need a specific instrument to be delivered to the sound effects department. After receiving it from her boss she goes off to give it to them. Before being able to tell them what she’s there for however, one of the people who works there asks her to help out with making some sound effects. And honestly, it’s pretty neat as they show us exactly how they make sound effects for anime.
Afterwards she gives them the instrument and thanks them for the chance to see a side of the business she’d never seen before.
We then cut to the CGI girl and find out that she decided to finally take the plunge and quit her job at the car CGI place.
She doesn’t have a plan on where to go, but her letter basically tells him that she loved the stuff he used to work on (a CGI movie called Zoo Story) and feels as if her dreams can’t be fulfilled here and it’s time for her to leave.
It’s then that finally FINALLY the director finishes the script for the final episode. FINALLY.
Interestingly enough, apparently she’s not the only person quitting as one of the more prominent characters of the series so far is going to quit after the series is finished, and open a cake shop.
And that’s not even all. It seems that they’re hinting at the fact that the blonde girl in this picture is planning on quitting as well.
I guess this is just the episode of “fuck everything I quit.”
However Miyamori does ask her coworker if he knows anybody looking for a CG artist. He says he might know a person and will let her know.
It’s then that the voice actors finish their dialogue and have the wrap up party, where the director has a little too much to drink, and they drive back to the studio to get more work done.
And that’s the where the episode ends.
So honestly, some stuff did happen in this episode…lots of quitting for one, but I did enjoy the sound effects studio scene as well as the introspective look on the CG girl’s life. It almost seemed as if her letter moved the president of the company in a way that he almost feels regret for the work he lost by transitioning over to only cars.
But overall it was a lot of anime jargen where they discussed how great the last episode is looking and how everything’s going to be okay.
Realistically, I’m a bit worried as things looked a little TOO good for Exodus in this episode. I almost feel as if something BAD’S going to happen next episode. Things are going a little too smoothly. Exodus has to have at least one more issue before things wrap up (at least that’s how I’ve come to believe this show works).
One of the biggest things I’m still waiting on is for the voice actress girl to get a big role. But the good news is, I don’t have to worry about them squeezing the resolution into 3 episodes as I know this will spill over into next season, so there’s no deadline. Which is nice.
I am actually very excited for the next episode and I can’t wait to see what happens.
Good work Shirobako. You actually got me interested in you again. Touche….Touche.
Episode: 7.5/10
