I really appreciate Log Horizon’s use of strategy. This isn’t a show where the players or the main character is going to jump in the fight all willy-nilly, thinking they’re going to win. You actually have to think about what you’re going to do. Because if you don’t, you’re as good as dead.
The adventurers rise up and fight again. It’s easy to summarize it this way: They come up with a new plan and fight the raid bosses. They go back and fight the body of armor raid boss, and when it comes to its critical stage (the white armor), the shadow monsters appear and they defeat them. And instead of staying and defeating it, they all left to go find and fight the other raid boss, the two-headed dragon. Shiroe and Naotsugu equip some new duds and the group uses new abilities. They’re actually doing really well against the dragon, until the third raid boss arrives, which they did anticipate. But then the shadow monsters from the first raid boss come into the area, which they did not anticipate. Uh oh.
We get a small look into Demikas’ character. At the end, he had grabbed Shiroe and dragged him out of the fighting area and into some empty corridor. He throws him down and tells Shiroe to say his name. Demikas is tired of losing, and he had underestimated their new world and just thought that he could do anything he wanted, thinking it was all just a game. But he screwed up. But in this moment he and Shiroe, just for a moment, were straight up with each other. Hey, Demi, I don’t like you. Shiroe, of Log Horizon, I don’t like you either. But Shiroe had said his name, and correctly this time, a mutual respect forming between them. Demi had wanted revenge on Shiroe throughtout this entire raid, but he knew Shiroe had been right about everything, and if it weren’t for him, he would be dead without his spells and buffs. They still don’t like each other, but at least they’re on equal ground.
Shiroe had grown a little more too, as noticed by one of the adventurers in the raid group. He was being more vocal and talking to them more. And it sounds like next week Shiroe is also going to be straight up with Kunie. After their little talk, Demikas threw Shiroe at a door and left, with those shadow monsters chasing after him. When Shiroe noticed, it was actually the deepest part of the Abyssal Shaft, the goal. When the door opened, there was gold everywhere. And Kunie was standing beside the last raid boss, which Shiroe is going to have to beat by himself.
A lot of strategy, a lot of fighting, a lot of excitement. Though it would have been better if the entire raid group fought the last raid boss with Shiroe. He’s most likely going to win anyway. We’ll just have to see next week.
By the way, Tetra is now a new member of the Log Horizon guild. Yay!
