Originally I never wanted to try Soryu because I was never quite sure what the appeal was. But after you’ve played enough games by Voltage you realize that it’s not really enjoying the games unless you sit down, consider all the choices, and watch your character do something interesting with every possible route, so I went for Soryu.

Instantly my faith was rewarded. Very few characters in anime, I feel, can pull off the look with slicked back hair. This game does you a favor and shows you right off the bat- here is the sexy you are giving yourself by buying this route. Here is his hair down. Ladies and gentlemen, Soryu Oh is HAWT, I’ve always been up and down on the subject of brooding guys, as I’ve made it clear I love the guys who pretend they don’t want you when they so painfully do, but Soryu catches you deeply.

Soryu is part of the mafia and he’s doing most of what he does in order to make money. I kind of admire how unabashedly ‘no I’m a gangster’ Soryu is. He pulls out his gun, threatens people, extorts and allows illegal actions for money, and ultimately his goal is to take over his Mafia gang so he can institute his own policies. For instance, he doesn’t point guns at women. That’s fine and dandy Soryu but you kill people at least you can kill people equally.

And you know what? I like that about Soryu. You get kind of a predictable plot in that he is setting up a daughter of another Mafia Lord on arranged marriages and you end up being her stand in since she doesn’t want to marry anyone. Ultimately I ignored most of that plot element and kind of focused on how sexy he was. He’s one of those quiet dorky types who loves what you make for him (tip: he is a huge fan of omelettes) and who responds to being called out usually with his gun.

Despite that the plot can be cliche at times, easily the best thing is that Soryu’s progression from auction winner to friend to lover is very clear. I can pretty steadily watch and enjoy myself! Some of it feels a bit overdone. I’m interested in seeing some more of Mei Ling, the girl you are meant to be impersonating, and I could call from 50 miles away that you were going to have to fight against her to be with Soryu. Pleasantly? It’s her father’s wish and she’s pretty much like NOPE NOT INTERESTED. If anything she wants to spend more time with YOU.

The visuals are some of the best in Voltage when it comes to Kissed by the Baddest Bidder. Some of the others have pixelation issues but everything here feels smooth. While quiet and stoic guys aren’t my thing, if they’re yours, it’s definitely worth it. Primarily the easiest part to read of this is just how easily it seems for Soryu and the main character to get along and ultimately-

I decided to play this from your Eisuke route post actually and Soryu is my favorite! I’m so glad you did his route! He’s just too hot. My heart can’t handle it. I agree the plot was predictable, but I thoroughly enjoy his interactions with other minor character. (:

I completely agree, the best part about his routes were the interactions. Like casually pulling guns on people and being like “WIBBLE I LOVE YOU”
