Once again, it is that time of the week to review Girlfriend. And I cannot think of a single thing i’d rather be doing than watching this show. Except for..you know if paint happened to be drying nearby i’d watch that instead…but then again that kinda goes without saying.

So what after school special lesson are we going to talk about today?

Well you’ll have to make it through this episode just like I did to find out. So here we go.

The episode starts out with that girl who’s on the cover of the show doing her gymnastics routine. Yeah that’s right. it’s another one of her episodes.

And okay. I didn’t mention it last time but HOLY SHIT. This chick has some huge boobs. And they picked HER to be the rhythmic gymnasts. How many rhythmic gymnasts do you know that have GIANT BOOBS? I mean do you turn on the olympics and god “damn those gymnasts got some boobs!” I know it’s off topic, but really? I know she’s your main character, but can we be a LITTLE more realistic here? She’s japanese….and a rhythmic gymnast. She should be as stacked as a 12 year old boy.  Not fucking Boa Hancock (end rant)

So anyway she’s doing her routine but her instructor thinks she could do more daring moves and get better scores instead of just doing the safe routine.

oh and for the record, teachers look exactly as old as the students.

However she’s nervous about it and afraid of messing up

Meanwhile her friend whose family owns a cafe needs some help part time because her grandfather doesn’t feel well so she decides to go help. We then learn that the girl whose family runs the cafe is terrible at everything related to working in a cafe.

I can see why they need extra help. Because she SUCKS

The only thing she seems to be good at is making coffee.

wait.

oh fuck she’s just like that bitch from the student council! How bad is it that you’re REUSING YOUR OWN SCHTICKS?

“But Hideki!” You interrupt in which i assume is a kilt and fedora, “She makes good coffee not tea!” to which i respond “go fuck yourself. it’s the same thing. also, nice fedora.”

However the main girl (I didn’t care to learn her name and i won’t ever care to) sees her friend trying and not being afraid of failure. This gives her the confidence she needs to keep trying until she succeeds.

HOORAY! The end.

Once again, we are left with a very short synopsis. And once again, it’s because NOTHING happens. The entire moral of the story was “don’t be afraid of failing!”

Here’s the issue I have with this show. Every single moral lesson they throw at you in this show is stuff you learn when you’re really little.

  1. don’t procrastinate

  2. don’t be afraid of failure

  3. be friendly.

But… there’s actually sometimes fanservice in this show so you’re sitting there scratching your head wondering who this show was made for.

It’s based on a dating sim on the phone so obviously it was made for a male audience but…it’s so sugary sweet that the girls aren’t really attractive. It’s like, they act so happy and almost childish that it feels kind of dirty to think of them in  sexual way.

aww yeah look at that...um... i..uh... i got nothing
aww yeah look at that…um… i..uh… i got nothing

I just…I don’t know what this show wants from me. The only other thing I can think of is it’s  female empowerment show, but if that’s the case they do a really poor job of it as every single girl is  a weird softspoken mess with no real character to speak of and they’re all completely interchangable.

This episode can basically be boiled down to “she feels nervous about failing and then shoe doesn’t.” I really don’t know any of these characters. They’re basically the same character just in different wigs. There is NOTHING interesting about this show. I just… when I watch this show i tend to zone out and ask questions about my life and what i’m doing. SHOWS SHOULDN’T DO THAT. especially shows supposedly about a school full of girls. With this kind of idea you can take it 3 ways.

  1. Make it a fanservice show. Make the entire premise about girls in silly situations but make it hot.

  2. Make it a show about how females can do whatever they want and follow their dreams. However for this the characters have to be diverse and interesting.

  3. Make it a cute show about life lessons. In this case however the cast must be very young. Elementary school really.

This show doesn’t know what it wants and it shows. It’s a mess. I don’t know what it wants, and at this point, i don’t even care.

See? I just put up an unrelated picture. That's how much i care.
