Now what would a week without an episode of Girlfriend be? I believe it’s called insomnia. Haha ah. no.. no.. but yeah…. it was still pretty dull.
So what was this episode about? It was about a beauty pageant in school. Wow. Holy crap. I can not think of a single plot in all of anime more exciting than that. Well there’s a lot to cover, so here’s the downlow.
This is another one of those “School announcer girl episodes”. Basically the student council is holding a vote for the prettiest girls in school and they’re asking the announcer girl to be the host. So she goes around and interviews the girls who are favored to win.
After about 5 minutes of that they tally the votes and they find out that the announcer girl is actually one of the winners, so she obviously can’t be the host anymore. So they ask if the small green haired girl she hangs around with will do it instead. After a bit of self doubt, she agrees to do it.
She then begins to practice as she’s used to doing stuff behind the scenes and not in the public eye. Shes greeted by one of the only interesting characters in this series, this girl
And what I mean by interesting character is, one of the only characters that has a personality that isn’t a demure, shy Japanese girl on Valium. She’s the only character that actually acts like she’s a..you know..human.
Anyway, her and several girls basically show up and cheer her on.
So the event is about to take place but no one can find the green haired chick. They thought she ran away because she was nervous, but nope, she was just practicing.
She then goes out and the thing goes off without a hitch and everybody’s happy. oh. and the girls from before come to support her.
And that’s basically where the episode ends.
Okay, normally I try not to count my gripes with this show because it’s so boring that I don’t care, but here’s something that’s bothering me. So there’s no ONE WINNER. There’s a BUNCH of winners. (about 10) however, there’s no number 1 or 2, just the group as a whole.
By having 10 winners, that kind of just makes me feel bad for everyone else. It’s like “Oh, guess the rest of you girls suck to much to be even considered for the top 10.” I think there was way too many for that. It should have been the top 3 and then those 3 recounted. Would have made for a much more entertaining episode. Of course, they ain’t going for entertaining in this show.
Anyway, other than that, the entire episode was just this.
part 1: them talking to the girls who were favorites to win and they’re awkward.
part 2: green haired girl practicing for hosting.
part 3: the “climax” where she hosts most of it offscreen.
I mean, we DID get to learn more about the green haired girl so … yay i guess? I mean she’s cute but other than that…. It was another boring episode with boring things not happening.
I was pondering this, and the only thing I can think of this series existing for is it being an advertisement for the mobile game. Like “oohhh look at all these pretty girls! You should buy our game so you can date the one you like!” I seriously cannot see this series existing for any other reason. It’s not like there’s a great story somebody wanted to tell. It’s just…existing. It’s floating in the void that is “meh” shows that probably won’t get licensed. So..um… yeah. that’s this episode….
I really got nothing funny to go out on….so um….tacos.
