I just have to say. Holy. Crap. You know, One show I’d been extremely excited for, and one show I’ve come to love have both been steaming piles of garbage this week. Then, out of the blue, comes this week’s Amagi Brilliant Park. I had basically resolved this show to the fate that it would be useless wacky hijinks and nonsensical bullcrap ignoring the problem at hand. This episode changed that. This episode was not only good, it was FANTASTIC.

Let’ go over what happens.

So the episode starts up with us seeing that they’re just starting to have later night hours so they can have more guests staying.

Remember the Jazz Hands!

We also see that the things he gathered over the past episodes are also attracting customers (aka the dragon and pirate)

However, even with all of these new boons, it seems like they probably won’t make their number at the rate they’re going. Then, another bombshell. While making food, Latifa collapses.

But..I wanted to go...into space. bleh
But..I wanted to go…into space. bleh

We learn that her backstory includes an evil wizard from her land which killed a dragon in exchange for latifah’s hand in marriage. The king agrees but then renegs on the deal once the dragon is dead. The wizard then places a curse on Latifa which drains her of that “fun” energy to the point that she will die.

The only way to save her is to have her be in a place where there will always be that energy. Hence, an amusement park. So basically, if the park closes, the other mascots have a slight chance of surviving by going to other parks, but if this place closes, it’s certain that Latifa will die.

Hearing this, Seiya changes his attitude. Now he’s obsessed with saving the park and increasing the numbers to the point of treating everyone with a lot more ire than normal.

And then, just when you think they’re out of twists, they throw another one at you. throughout the series we’ve been having quick flashes of images which we finally learn was actually a memory Kanie had of Latifa where, when he was a kid, he actually met her and swore that he would save her, even though he didn’t know what was really wrong with her.

And. And, JUST IN CASE you didn’t think THAT was ENOUGH TWISTS, they throw two more at you. One, we find out that moffle (the bear thing) is actually Latifa’s uncle, but the big one is that there’s a second effect of the curse. Not only will she die if she doesn’t get a continuous supply of fun energy, every single year her memories and body revert a whole year. That’s right, she’s really 24 but she’s been stuck in a loop for 10 years. And what that also means, is that on the revert date, August 1st, she’ll forget everything that happened this year.

End of episode.

DAYMN.

That is a LOT of shit to happen in one episode. Then again, they’ve had to make up a lot of lost time with the past few episodes being full of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The whole time that I’ve been bitching and saying “Why isn’t anything happening?” THIS is what I was talking about. THIS is the sort of episode I was waiting for. There was some comedy with the mascot characters, but overall, this episode had a serious tone and I LOVED it. The reveal of Latifa’s curse and imminent demise REALLY drove home the necessity of hitting that goal and made the show IMMENSELY more interesting to me.

Not only this, but we get to see Kanie have real emotions and have to deal with the realization that “yes. If I fail, a girl I promised to protect WILL DIE” and it’s finally hitting home.

This whole week has been full of lousy episodes for me, and to think, the show that would have a great episode would be Amagi Brilliant Park. The show where normally nothing happens. Go figure. If next episode is going to be like this, I CANNOT WAIT. I am actually excited for a show again and want it to be next week so I can see it.

I actually have to say that even Moffle wasn’t painful. He had real reactions and emotions, and his interaction with Kanie was deep.

I know I’m sounding like I’m gushing, but that’s because it’s finally become the show I was hoping it would be ever since I saw episode 2. No more bullshit, no more fucking pirates or weasels hiding in caves, or 4 people ddr’s, no. Finally, FINALLY we’ve gotten to the meat of the series, and it’s great to see it. A+ episode guys, A+

Episode: 9.5/10

(the .5 is because he still hasn’t used that power since the dragon episode)

Personally I really liked the previous episodes! They were hilarious, and by the end there was something new added to the park. (Usually new employees.) Maybe the only episode I thought was kinda dumb was the team-building one for the fairies, but I’ve liked every other episode so far. This episode was certainly much more intense though. ^_^

The only episode I really disliked was when the park members disguised themselves as Kanie-kun
