Now I could start this review by fangasming, but I will wait for that until I finish this episode summry. Hold it in Hideki…you can do it.
So the episode picks up where the last one left off. Kakei is in the magical library with the shepard from when he was a kid as well as Kodachi.
As the subtitles explain, this library basically records everyone’s lives past and future. It’s the shepards’ jobs to do the best they can to help people be happy in their lives. Obviously as there’s only a few hundred sheperds they can’t get to everyone in the world so they try to help the ones that will have the biggest impact on humanity.
We see Kodachi is still miffed that he seems to have taken such an interest in Kakei, but the shepard asks her if she could look out for him and help him to become a shepard and she reluctantly agrees.
When they get back we go back to normal antics of the library club where they’re off to find a lizard or something and the singing girl’s friend shows up and is basically a bitch for no reason.
Anyway back to the interesting part of the story.
Kodachi then begins to explain that very soon that computer loli chick is going to injure her hand badly and because of that she won’t be able to be the computer programmer destined to be.
Kodachi makes a mistake and misjudges and the girl nearly does end up hurting herself, however, Kakei steps in and saves her through… some very unconventional means.
Afterwards, we cut back to boring mcidiot who had made cookies. Kakei sees a heart cookie and asks her what it is. As she’s explaining that it’s meant for two lovers to eat together…he ignores her and eats it. and I laughed. Oh did I laugh.
The episode ends with Kodachi showing up and telling the group that she spoke with the library committee and they agreed to let them stay there for their club, to which she claims it was only to pay him back for helping her out.
End of Episode.
All right. It is official. I am covering 8 shows this season. Out of every single show, every single character, Kodachi is my favorite hands down. In fact, She is in my top 10 best anime girls period. I LOVE this character. There is nothing about her I don’t like, and this episode was RIPE with development for her.
In this episode we learn from her that you can’t be a shepard if you give preferential treatment to anyone specifically. Meaning you can’t have a best friend, girlfriend, etc. You have to be able to treat everyone equally. This has never been a problem for Kodachi as she’s always kept everyone at arms length. But with the introduction of Kakei, slowly but surely her defenses are falling and it’s obvious she’s beginning to fall in love with him.
She has a bit of a selfish streak, but that’s because it’s all she’s really ever known as she’s been alone most of her life. She only really knows how to look after herself, and puts on this Faux-tsundere air that is her shield. She needs someone in her life to care for her, to show her they need her.
Loser mcidiot on the other hand, (or the main girl in the opening theme song) she really doesn’t have much of a story. Here’s her schtick. “I’ve never been good at making friends. I told my sick sister I would make friends. Kakei helped me make friends. Now i awkwardly have a crush on him. the end.” There’s no development with her. She didn’t have friends, now she does. There’s nowhere to go with her. Her tiny arc is at an end. Which is why I’ll be so mad if he ends up with her.
Kodachi is the one we know the least about. Her backstory and motives have never been fully addressed, but we can tell she’s hurting.
Everyone else is kind of just a wackadoodle who does their own stuff and gets shy and nervous whenever they believe that Kodachi and Kakei are going out.
Kodachi knows she can’t be in a relationship. and she’s fighting with all her might to not feel things for Kakei. She wants to be a sheperd but these feelings are getting in the way, and she hates herself for it.
The Sheperd told her to hang out with the library club to see what it is she’s missing. Because what she is missing is human bonding. And she needs to develop and grow.
NONE OF THESE OTHER BITCHES DO. Also, they’re in love with Kakei for no reason.
Black haired girl: he was worried about her one time.
Music girl: he walked with her one time and helped her get a bug off her shirt and gave her a short motivational speech.
Blonde girl: no reason at all.
Red haired girl: cause he helped her get friends.
And what pisses me off it, THERE’S ANOTHER PERFECTLY GOOD GUY IN THE FUCKING CLUB
It’s not like this guy is a jerk. He’s a REALLY nice guy. Everyone’s just so jaded with “Main character syndrome” that’s is disgusting. and they have NO REASON TO.
Kodachi is the only female I can stomach in this show. Everyone else is vapid and stupid. There is literally NO REASON NONE OF THEM can’t just tell Kakei they like him. But they don’t. They just sit there and look awkward when they think someone IS making a move. Fuck all of you. None of you deserve to be in a relationship.
Like I said before, if Kakei ends up with Kodachi this series will literally be in my top 10. The opening scares me as they focus a lot of on the idiot girl, but the recent episodes have been focusing a lot on Kodachi which gives me hope as I LOOVEEE Kodachi. All in all, there was a lot of Kodachi stuff, not a lot of idiot and what there was, it was making fun of her, so actually, great episode. KEEP THIS UP!
Episode 8.5/10
