Cross Ange Episode 6 [ Anything Can Be Bought ]

Ladies and Gentlemen, if every episode of Cross Ange is as pleasant from now on as this episode was, we are in for a treat. Finally we begin to break away a lot of the crap this show is giving us and find an epic awesome tale. Also Momoka is here.

The focus today is on Momoka, Ange’s maid when she was the Princess. Momoka has literally fought her way to get here, hidden, and everything you can imagine just to see Ange again. For once we see someone so heartfelt in their devotion to Ange- even though they know she is a Norma. Of course as you can imagine Ange’s initial reaction is to be a giant tsundere pants.

Over the course of the episode Momoka shows she is as stubborn about Ange as Ange first was. She can’t stand that Ange has been given such poor living conditions and wants more than anything to give her better. Ange pushes her away while at the same time cutting her off before she can talk about the Empire because that would be too convenient for the plot right now.

What we learn fairly quickly is Momoka cannot be here. DRAGONs are a secret to those outside of Norma and a select few. It’s very heavily implied she will be killed rather than allowing her to return. Hilda and the others even rub this into Ange’s face, and we see Ange actually show guilt for once about it.

What really sells the episode is what happens next. We see the Ange we got a glimpse of in the beginning of the series, one that is kind and loving towards the people around her. When she was young and new to the castle, Momoka broke one of Ange’s dolls. Ange was horrified…because she cut herself and was worried about something as stupid as a doll. Momoka kept the scar it caused because it was the first moment she truly began to care for Ange.

The implication is really sweet, Momoka knew she was a Norma but was one of the only people in her life who genuinely loved her as she was. Ange realizes this as she’s fighting and does an even better job, killing all the DRAGONs. Salia is upset, but what happens next is awesome. Momoka is going to be killed, or ‘transported’ back home, until Ange comes running with bags filled with money saying she wants to buy Momoka. The officer insists she can’t do that to a human, but Jill smirks and says “With enough money, anything can be bought.”

For the first time, Ange has shown her humanity and has gained an ally (and a handy mana using maid!). Momoka is probably way more amazing than I thought she’d be. Can I emphasize how cute she is and how little I thought I’d like her? I’m so moved. And next episode is focused on Salia, one of the best characters?! Guys, let’s have a moment to hope this show goes nowhere but up from here.
