I… I don’t even know why this post exists. By all stretch of the imagination I shouldn’t like this show. I mean…it’s about fucking DANCING. but…goddamn i’m actually kind of hooked on this show. fuckity fuck. (Sigh) but i guess I should bring attention to it only because it made me give a shit about DANCING.Which I didn’t think was possible.

So the show begins with a boy (haneru) basically jumping around town like one of those crazy free jumping people in the city.

It turns out that he goes to this place to dance nearly every day. A girl named Kanon also goes to the same place and watches him dance and then records her own dances.

Haneru receives tickets to this awesome dancer from his friend and learns of this new internet dance sensation named Rhythm. (Who is obviously Kanon with a terrible robin-esc mask)

One day while Haneru is dancing, kanon gets in sync with him and starts dancing. However, as the sun sets, the glare from the sun goes away and what Haneru thought was a mirror is actually a window.

Oh baby.
Oh baby.

He sees that Kanon is Rhythm and runs after her, but after they talk she leaves without him getting her contact info.

Episode 2 starts up with Haneru realizing he has absolutely no way to contact her. So Haneru shows up to the place where she used to dance every day but she doesn’t show up.

Tribe 9Luckily this dancing dude named master T shows up to give kanon a flower which turns into an advertisement for a dance competition. And then he moonwalks away. Because dear god. If “I” ever get a dancing guardian angel, he BETTER moonwalk away after i’m doing talking to him!

So we see that Haneru also sees the advertisement and decides to go check it out in the hopes of seeing Kanon there as he has decided that he wants to team up with her. Arriving there, he almost immediately finds her and while he begins
pestering her about becoming a team, A team of three people hop on stage and begin to start dancing.

See, this is one of the reasons that I wanted to try this show. Usually with these shows, it’s all anorexic or muscley people who do this stuff, but however in this show, one of the main characters who dances,

Tribe 13

that’s right, it’s a fat guy. And apparently, this guy’s got some MOVES.

Woo! Go chunky, go chunky, go!
Woo! Go chunky, go chunky, go!

After they finish, the leader of the group sees Haneru flipping around like an idiot in the back to try to see them through the crowd and calls him up to a dance battle, and haneru drags kanon on stage with him. and that’s where episode 2 ends.

I… I don’t know what’s wrong with me. For some reason I…I like this show. I don’t know why. Okay. Maybe I can figure it out if I break it down.

Ok. One thing that really DOES bother me is EVERY SINGLE TIME they dance, they change the animation style. Usually it’s the standard 2d animation, however, when they start dancing, they kind of turn them into 3d models and it looks really terrible compared to the rest of the animation. I guess drawing them dance in 2d was too hard? still though. It’s sad when the main aspect of your show makes your show look like crap.

Introducing Parappa the Rappa 4! on PS1

Not to say the art style is fucking Miyazaki or anything, but it has a certain simplistic charm, even if it does look like all their fingertips have some terrible 2nd degree burns or infection.

Eww....are you sure you want to be touching hands?
Eww….are you sure you want to be touching hands?

The characters are kind of simplistic, from the overeager main boy character to the unsure girl character, but… I guess it just feels…real. It feels like people would act this way, and when they dance there’s actually an excitement you can feel coming from them. As if they actually feel the excitement.

I guess the show’s enthusiasm for dancing is just…catching. You  feel enthusiastic because THEY feel enthusiastic, Unlike Vanadis where you feel like everything’s read from a very bad script.

So…I don’t know whether this is unfortunate or fortunate to say, but yes. I WILL be watching Tribe Cool Crew. god I can’t believe I just said that. Will I be blogging it? Considering the insane amount of reviews I’m doing, PROBABLY not, but if i end up dropping something I may come back to it.

Watching: YES
Blogging: Probably Not.

I pretty much agree with everything written here. I DID NOT expect to like this show a lot, but I’m actually looking forward to the rest of the episodes. It’s cute and bright and…I dunno, it sort of reminds me of the days where I used to watch things like Shugo Chara and Powerpuff Girls Z. Somehow it’s nostalgic, even if I’ve never watched a show like this. Also, I already love Kanon. She’s so cute.
