You know, when I’m watching this show, a lot of the time I think to myself, “Do people even know this show exists?” I see nobody ever make fanart for it, it’s the least viewed review I have out of my 8 shows, and I haven’t heard a single person mention it..well…ever.
And that’s sad. Because all things considered, this isn’t BAD show. I mean, it’s better than Vanadis or Ushiwareta, or Girlfriend, but, meh. I guess a shonen with dancing instead of fighting isn’t too popular of a concept. That’s okay Sunrise. I got your back (thumbs up)
So then. What is THIS episode about? If you guessed more training, that hot damn you’re right. You should be in the anime psychic academy. Oh no wait. no you shouldn’t. Because that series is a piece of crap.
anyway yes. They’re training some more. Haneru and Kanon decide to go off training at their usual spot. Unfortunately it’s being renovated for the day.
So they decide to go to the center of town which usually is the center of performing dancers. However, there they happen to be having a banzai tree festival. Is… is that a thing? I lived in Japan and I can’t say I ever saw a BANZAI tree festival.. oh well.
After looking around for a bit they see Mizuki (girl who’s not kanon. holy crap i learned her name!) dancing.
After she’s finished she hangs out with them and offers them their place to train. However, Kuma (damn i’m getting good at learning these people’s names) shows up and farts all over Haneru’s happiness by telling him that he still sucks.
After they leave Mizuki informs him and Kanon that they should be proud of their unique abilities. Kanon for her long limbs and Haneru for this height.
Neither of them can figure out what she means until Haneru heads to the basketball court and Master T shows up.
Basically he shows him that his jumping is a result of him being short and he should use that to his advantage.
Haneru then goes over to Kanon and tells her of his revelation and they script out a dance routine together which they call over Mizuki to come watch.
Haneru gets a little overzealous (see featured image) and they mess up the routine, but even still, Mizuki was impressed with what she saw.
The episode ends with them getting prepared for the dance competition which, HOPEFULLY will be next episode.
The only issue i’m seeing with this show is that they threw training so early into the game. They’re not even Tribe Cool Crew yet. They’re still Tribal Soul and Cool Crew. I want them to team up! Well, i guess depending on how many episodes this show has, we’ll see if they’ll do that sooner rather than later.
This show isn’t bad by any means, it’s just taking a while to really go anywhere. They’re young, they’re learning the tricks of dancing, but at the same time, I want to see more of the plot move forward.
Another issue i’m coming across is, if this show is really 13 episodes long, they’re trying to bring in some character growth for too many characters. In this episode we were introduced to Haneru’s old friend who he used to play basketball with before he quit.
We also get some development in terms of that we learn that the lady who owns the burger place they go to was childhood best friends with Mizuki.
I see what they’re doing here, they’re trying to give us character development and growth, but they’re doing it in the wrong way. They’re basically giving us two episodes of training and intersplicing it with backstory. The problem is with that, if nothing happens to break that up, it gets boring. That’s why i’m hoping next episode will be the tournament.
If this series is going to be a shonen show with like 56 episodes then I don’t care. Have all the training…basketball….food episodes you want. But if it IS only 13, it’s already episode 5. You gotta pick up the pace.
Still though, hoping for next episode.
Not a great one this week, but…not terrible
Episode 6/10
Oh yeah, and just in case you were wondering where Yuzuru went
He’s literally off on a random mountain somewhere.
Another reason this episode wasn’t better.
Bah.
