First off, I have to thank Sidekick for his amazing analysis of Parasyte, if you haven’t read it. Please go check it out. Now let’s talk about episode three.

The episode begins with this woman we aren’t familiar with calling out a pervert on the subway, by we’re not fimilar with her. I mean, we sort of saw her last episode. This is the woman we saw about to get it on at the end of the last episode.
If it wasn’t obivious to us before, it is now that this woman is a parasite. Though she seems above the intelligence of the other ones we’ve seen so far. It’s interesting to see how some of them go above and beyond to blend in with humans when others don’t go through that effort. We’ll see the contrast in this episode in particular.

Izumi heads to school, along the way. Migi tells him that he can sense another one of his kind nearby. In fact, in the school building. We see the woman from the subway show up as a subsitute teacher, she pinpoints Shinichi in the crowd of students when they make eye contact.
In math class, he can’t focus at all on the work. Not that I blame him, I mean if my teacher was a man-eating monster i’d have trouble focusing on algebra too. She walks over and calls him out, then tells him to meet her in the guidance councilers office. vlcsnap-2014-10-22-19h31m54s168

In the office they establish that they both know what the other one is, she tells him she wants to meet up with him after school.
He gets on a bus and goes to a cafe to meet her after school, she brings along another one of their kind. Called A-san, he has no name and isn’t nearly as advanced in inteligence as she is. He is far more animalistic, he can’t sit still as the others talk, he has no real interest in finding out what they are. However, he is the one that mated with her. Their child however, is a plain human. Inciting more questions into what they are.

The next day at school, everything is going fine. Until A-san decides it would be a good idea to attack in broad daylight. I’m sure exposing yourself to everyone is the best plan in the world. The lady teacher, [I should go look up her name, if she sticks around more then two episodes.] wanders off to go watch the battle that is sure to ensue against Shinichi and A-san.

The building evacuates the students, it’s interesting to see how calm everyone is. Most people seem to think it’s a drill despite one not being announced. It isn’t until they see the intruder that most of them even begin to worry. Speaking of worried, Shinichi hears Migi’s plan to use the other students as a meat shield.

Or…A wall of meat. Because they needed a fancy way to say meat sheild. He rejects this idea completely and runs off and barricades himself between some desks. Interestingly enough, Migi asks some interesting questions. Most importanly, “What makes us different from A-san.” and while Shinichi has a few differen’t answers. The one that sticks the most is that A-san is one, and that they are two.

Migi gets Shinichi a weapon he tells him to conceal and they get ready for the attack, however, Shinichi didn’t count on A-san coming up from down below. Now his barricade of desks serves to just block his escape route. The battle is set to begin and…

The ending starts. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Seriously though, this was a good episode, it seems like not a lot really happened but it established a new character and also gave us a sharp contrast on how some of these things are evolving compared to others. I enjoyed this episode for what it was, a set-up episode. Next episode we’re going to get some intense action and I can’t wait!
