So, i’ve played pool all of about like…three times in my life and I’m not very good at it. So i’m exactly like Kaito in this episode! The episode starts with Aoko and Kaito at Jii’s bar playing some Billiard balls making fun of how much they both suck…or going “You’re so good at this” sarcastically at one another.
A gangster gets all up in their faces and says something about a legendary cue, we learn that this emerald encrusted stick used to belong to Jii before he lost it in a game many years ago.
Kaito is determined to get it back for him, so they all arrange to go to the bar that has the cue stick. A bar that Aoko and Kaito are too young to be in, and totally almost blow their cover twice. Also, can Kaito go one episode without doing something I think she sort of deserves to hit him for? I mean I get changing her clothing because the outfit she came in made her look like a loser but touching her ass in the process….so Yeah, they go in and almost blow their cover twice ordering kid things like chocolate ice cream. Thank goodness for Jii. [though ordering a martini might of been a bit much, even if it was without alcohol.]
Kaito convinces the guy at the bar that hey are from a magazine and want to go interview the guy, They leave Aoko behind at the bar getting drinks. Supposedly without alcohol. They get to play in the super secret back room. Kaito challanges this guy and the game is afoot….
Or it would be if Kaito didn’t totally suck at Billiard Balls, they gamble until they run out of money and then it comes down to this…the legendary cue for Jii’s bar. When Aoko bursts into the room pretty much drunk off her ass, so my question here is did the bartender start actually giving her booze or did she get drunk of the atmosphere Persona 4 style?
Well either way, she hijacks the piano and Kaito hits his stride. He moves in and takes a stance like his father used to when he would play in front of Kaito.
He hits the ball and it does amazing feats of jumping over other billiard balls. Like, seriously impossiable stuff. Till you see the secret behind the trick. thin wire, very clever. as expected of an ace magician.
He wins, he goes to steal the cue stick as Kaito Kid…you know what? I would tell you exactly what goes on in this scene but it’s actually too sweet to spoil. This is one of those moments in anime best left watched.
So they get the cue stick, Jii gets to keep his bar and Aoko is none the wiser to the true ideinty of Kaito Kid. You know, this was a pretty good episode, it proved to us that Kid didn’t have to be in the episode for it to be interesting. Just focusing on Kaito was sort of nice for a change. I mean not that I don’t appreciate Kaito Kid and his heists but what really draws me into this show is the use of magic. The wires on the billiard table, the fake Kaito that the drunk Aoko was holding. I’ve always been super drawn to magic so this is just such a treat for me.
Next episode we get a new….HELLO handsome, what’s you’re name Mr. Detective. Would you like a date? Er um, right. A new character that is a detective that might even be a match for the great Kaito Kid! Can’t wait to see where this goes.

Okay the part where Kaito ordered chocolate ice cream so suave-like cracked me up, not gonna lie. XD
