So here we are to episode 3, aka. “the exposition on the Grail war Episode”, akax2 “The episode where anyone who’s seen this show in any form hear’s the same info they already knew in terms a 5 year old could get.” While the style is good, and the exposition is done well, I see little in it for those who already know the lore and the rules of the Grail War. Most of the episode is “Rin explains the Grail War to Shirou, then gives up and has Kirei Kotomine explain the Grail War to Shirou.” Even then, there’s a few things to like about this episode.
For one, Rin is still fun. She continues to do well in balancing being the very proper lady she tries to be and the goofy, energetic spaz that she is on the inside.
She flips out on not having Saber, and blushes at any compliments given her way. Its really funny seeing her reactions.
We also have Saber…though sadly not for lot. She stays silent for most of the episode, only speaking up on occasion. However, its quite clear she already likes Shirou, despite misgivings based on his name. Gotta say, their Master-Servant relationship is better in one night than Saber’s relationship in Fate/Zero for the entire show.
The one who steals this episode though is KIREI MOTHERFUCKING KOTOMINE!!
He effortlessly plays the part of a serious, almost dull priest giving out information, but a closer examination shows his intent. Whenever Shirou says doubts about joining the War, Kirei says just the right thing to insure he will participate. Its subtle, diabolical and I love it.
Things seem to be pretty simple and slow this episode until…what’s that? A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!!!
We’ve been given the promise of something big to come, and I can’t wait. Until then, we can content ourselves with this image of the King of Knights in a yellow rain poncho.
—-Midnight’s view—–
I can’t say much about the episode that Savage didn’t say, it was a lot…and lot…and lot of talking. However! Elaborating on a point that Savage brought up, the wonderful bit that was Kirei Kotomine. We [As in Oki, Hideki, Savage, a friend of ours and I.] spent this past weekend at an anime con and after the con watching two shows all the way through, one of those shows being Fate/Zero.
Thus Kirei is very fresh in our minds and you can see all the manipulative thoughts going through his head. His not so subtle pushes for Shirou to join the war, his reaction to the name ‘Emiya’. I’m going to be monitoring his character a lot more carefully then when I watched the first anime now that I’ve seen Fate/Zero.
I can’t wait to see his character arc develop all over again with a clearer understanding of his character.
I might even respect Shirou more after seeing Fate/Zero because while he might be a sexist A-hole sometimes, at least he’s not the bloody F-ing coward that Kiritsugu was! AT LEAST SHIROU FIGHTS LIKE A MAN YOU COWARDLY A-HOLE! Woah, sorry, going off topic. So yeah, Iliya. I love Iliya can’t wait to blog about the Berserker fight.
