You know, It’s about this time I realized something… I said I would first impression a LOT of shows. And by far and large, I’ve pretty much liked all the shows I’ve seen so far….okay well except 2. But I have to say, out of all the shows that I said I was going to first impression, this is the one show I always forgot about whenever I counted off the shows I was covering in my head. I”d always get to 9 and I would be like…”I could SWEAR i’m forgetting one.” and ugh. Last time I thought I’d be underwhelmed by a show I got Ushinawareta….Ugh… Well here’s hoping that this one won’t be as painful… Well, I guess we better just start shouldn’t we?
The episode starts off in the past. A young boy is sitting and reading a book under a tree. An older dude walks over to him and begins to talk to him about books.
And he tells the young boy about a magical book that exists but you can only see if it you’re a really good person. He then hands the boy a ticket and tells him not to ever lose it.
We then cut to the present where we see the kid has grown up into a teenager who still has the ticket which he uses as a bookmark which he seems to have kept in ridiculously good condition for being used as a bookmark for 10 years.
As he gets off a train he’s on, he gets a vision that a girl who he sees passing out fliers is going to die. Right before he does though he receives a strange text from someone called “the Shepard” about how his life is going to change today.
So he goes to save her before his premonition comes true, but she trips and falls. And since this IS a harem show after all, I’m going to give you a single guess what happens when he does save her. Come on, you can do it.
If you didn’t guess accidental gropage then you my friend have never seen a harem anime before. And if you haven’t…what the hell are you doing watching this show?
Anywhoozles, thinking he’ll never see this girl again he heads to class. We’re informed that the school is HUGE with thousands of students. So the odds of him seeing her are very low. So of course he sees her 10 minutes later.
But of course, not before the happy go lucky theme song plays. Complete with somebody running. Because It is apparently not an upbeat opening without someone running. I think it’s a contractual obligation from every anime ever.
After class ends we learn that the Shepard sent emails to everyone saying that the main dude is a groper and a pervert, including the girl’s protective friend.
Now here’s something I liked. These girls gang up on him and look like they’re going to beat him up for being a molester pervert. And then, when explaining the situation doesn’t work (mainly because he told them he can see the future sometimes) he, instead of taking the beating..get this- he runs away.
Eventually he comes across the girl from before. She apologizes to him for causing him so much trouble and, after explaining to her friend what really happened, All is forgiven. Oh, well that it until the entire karate team shows up to kick his ass. But before they can, flying in from the side comes the dude’s best friend and saves him.
Before the situation can get out of hand, the girl (Shirasaki) tries to explain, but gets tongue-tied and the main dude’s friend (Takamine) whispers something in her ear to tell everyone, which ends up being this.
That seems to satisfy everyone as they finally let it go.
After that craziness, the four of them head up a room in the library where they discuss the reason Shirasaki was handing out fliers in the first place. To become less introverted and to make more friends. Kakei (the main guy) basically states that he really doesn’t want to do it and would rather be reading books.
But eventually after some thinking about it and realizing he wants to figure this girl out (or something like that) he decides to do it, and they do this calling themselves the new library club.
The episode ends with the older guy from before standing on top of the library talking to someone about how eventually they’re going to test Kakei and see if he can become the new Shepard.
What to say about this show? Well for starters, I have to say, it was not the worst show so far, neither was it the most boring.
While I was extremely unexcited for this show, I do have to say…I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. Originally I thought this was going to be a generic boring piece of garbage, but, I have to say, I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would.
For starters, the main girl is cute and pretty funny actually, the main dude is passable, I LOVE Takamine (his friend) and the supporting characters that I’ve met so far are pretty cute.
The whole book thing is an interesting idea, and it’s so early in the series, I want to know more about this “Shepard”. Like, what does he do? Why is he nice some of the time and a dick others? Why does this girl cost 1000 yen for her to smile at you when you’re being served by her at the school restaurant?
I’m sure I’ll get the answers to some of these questions, but it’s definitely a show that I’m pretty invested in and I want to keep watching.
Head: 8. I like the idea and I want to see where this is going.
Eye: 9 I really DO like this animation. a lot actually
Heart: 7 I’m starting to feel some of the love and feelings in this show, but it’s too early on to determine anything. I love the relationship between Kakei and his friend, and even Shirasaki and Kakei.
Will I be watching this? Definitely. I really do want to see where this plot goes. There is definitely an energy to this show that’s infectious, and I want to catch whatever it is. and actually, I DO want to keep blogging about it. so yes on both counts. Now if you’ll excuse me, i’m only 200 pages into this 800 page book.
Watching: Yes
