Cross Ange Episode 3 [ Mourning ]

I’m just gonna say this now, FINALLY. Finally. Thank God. We are passed the SET UP episodes. I am not saying from now on it won’t be awkward or weird or feel odd or upset your stomach and I’m not promising Ange will be likable right away, but for the love of god we are finally to haircut mode and Ange has finally shut the fuck up about not being a norma. This episode is the end of that shit, I hope to god. Why? Because Ange gets fucking everyone killed. And by everyone I mean coco’s friend and Zola. There’s your start of an episode, Zola dies.

Now from here on out the other girls are pissed, but I can’t help but think that Zola was a rapist and didn’t deserve my pity? I mean Coco, the twelve year old, yes she deserved my pity, but Zola?? She flat out was willing to rape Ange and while Ange is a fucking bitch sometimes I don’t…think anyone DESERVES sexual violence? Again, this show presents it as a way to understand emotional comradery, but I’m…nope. Sorry. Kinda not sad she’s dead?

The whole episode is Ange whining and feeling bad for herself. You know guys, I know you’re all saying man I hate her. But seriously, they wrote her to be like this. They purposefully did this not for the character’s growth but just to on purpose force us to feel. We’re supposed to be disgusted with who she is and then rejoice when she grows. Well, not gonna lie, they went overboard. It’s almost LAUGHABLE how OBVIOUS what they want us to feel is. And you know what? Uhm I don’t care?? You want me to hate Ange? Okay, do this then. Good…job? I think they didn’t realize just how poorly they portrayed this.

This is supposed to be our main character and she wets herself when she is begging to die. This is our main character and they don’t make her doubt until she’s face first in mud and her own grief about her empire. The way they wrote this character is not because the character is bad, it was poor writing to make Ange’s reactions such a caricature. Early Ange is a JOKE. She is not a serious character I can take seriously because she is literally a ploy to incite emotions. I can’t hate Ange because the way she is never feels like it’s her, it feels like it’s her writers making her this way. I should never feel that way about a character, but I can definitely see the skeletons of this script.

So this week? In summary, Ange causes people to die. She has to come to terms with it, but wants to die. She is told to die on the battlefield, after being told Misurugi is no longer an empire, and she’s like FUCKING FINE. So she goes off to die but wants to be eaten, so she almost dies, wets herself, realizes dying sucks, cries on her family’s ring, magic occurs, she uses her mad Iaria skills to kick dragon ass. Any questions? Okay, then she cuts her hair and we FINALLY see her character showing.

Everything else is basically everyone but the black haired one in charge hating her. She killed their friends, she sucks, blah blah. Basically for the next 10 episodes they’ll all hate her but I imagine next episode is banking that Ange will become the new Captain. The rest of the girls almost got killed without her so that makes sense, plus the opening has her at the head so…yeah. I imagine that next week will be awkward too, having to deal with their passive agressive hate, but HOPEFULLY. HOPEFULLY. NOW THE FUCKING DISGUSTING AWKWARD SHIT IS OVER.

I’m not saying I hate this anime, far from it. I have stuck with far worse for far longer and I have a sincere belief Ange will become a better character, the show will take a better direction, and we’ll get some interesting twists. Shit, the opening alone lends itself to that. So my thoughts? I’m hoping, man. Can we please stop setting up Ange’s whole shit fest and move on to some epic dragon fights (PLEASE GET RID OF BODILY FUNCTIONS), political intrigue, kicking evil Clovis in the face, and hopefully getting some love interest booty up in hurr?
