Chelsea is the newest member of Night Raid, right? It’s too early for her to die. There’s something called plot armour in fantasy action shows like this. Yup, she should be safe.

Akame 17 Img036…This is suffering. Chelsea’s death was brutal, for fuck’s sake. I wasn’t even particularly attached to her, but no-one deserves to be put through that Esdeath-type treatment. I don’t think I’d even wish it on Seryuu. At the very least, I’m slightly consoled by the fact that I was genuinely shocked despite knowing full well that she was going to die with all that foreshadowing from last week. Actually, you’d have to have a heart of stone to not despair regardless of whether you knew it was happening or not – unless you hated Chelsea for whatever reason, in which case whoopee for you. I mean, to some extent it wasn’t a surprise that her fingers or even her arm were sliced off, in that I knew it wasn’t going to be a quick death. Maybe I could argue that for her death by beheading too. But no amount of foreshadowing was ever going to prepare me for seeing her freshly decapitated head impaled on a tall pole in the city centre.

Akame 17 Img041That’s just… I don’t even… I thought that if Chelsea’s corpse was going to be displayed, it would be crucified or something. That’s what I thought the crowd were looking at. And to be honest, I thought that scene where she dies in a field of flowers would be the end of it – it was already pretty bad then, especially as she’d already gone through quite a lot of suffering. And it’s not like she fucked up through any real fault of her own, although maybe she should have followed her instincts and decided not to immediately target Kurome, since she’d be more hard-pressed to escape a support-type Teigu in the event of a fight. Ultimately it was Kurome’s drugs that allowed her to retaliate when she really shouldn’t have been able to, and if Chelsea made a proper mistake it was at this point, when she decided to turn her back on Kurome and not ensure her death by decapitating her – which is ironically how Chelsea herself later went. It was a rash decision that could have been avoided had she decided to properly rendezvous with Night Raid instead. I guess you could say she got… ahead of herself.

I know, I’m a terrible person.

Akame 17 Img038On that note, it feels very unholy to like Kurome now. My poor heart is very confused. I don’t hold Chelsea’s death itself against her at all – it’s her job as part of the Jaegers, and Chelsea also fulfilled her role -in a heartfelt death scene made underwhelming by her own death- in tricking and killing Bols. What I’ve got a problem with is the fact that Kurome stuck her decapitated head on a pole in public – was that really necessary? I mean, Kurome must have been the one who ordered that, right? If nothing else, that and her zombie scene has proven that she’s quite insane in her own special way, although from the flashback of her past -I recognized some scenes from Akame ga Kill: Zero– it doesn’t seem like she had a naturally evil disposition like Seryuu does. She was such a cute kid! I’m thinking it was the drugs that did it, especially if the benefit included the invulnerability of all her vitals save for her heart. Is her candy actually some sort of cure or suppressant, in that case?

At least the mental exhaustion of this episode was eased slightly by the sight of Esdeath in her pyjamas.
You’re welcome.

;_; When I read the manga, I cried over Bors’ death but not Chelsea’s. (It was shocking, but not sad enough for me to cry.) But in the anime….I cried over Chelsea. Her last moments were so sad…. I’m surprised her head wasn’t censored too T_T

Both their deaths were done really well in the anime, although I do wish Bols’ death had a bit more distance from Chelsea’s. I know it highlights the whole retribution thing and how assassins have it coming for them, but the shock factor from Chelsea’s head made me forget that Bols went through his own form of suffering.

I’ve noticed that there’s two parts to these deaths: the actual death itself and Night Raid’s reaction to it. It’s almost unsettling how the preview shows comedic scenes for next week’s episode given how this one ended. I’m glad they didn’t censor it, there’s no room for doubt that way.

The feels… i have watch many heart breaking moment in kamen rider so i kinda prepare for these moment. An about Bors, it was sad to see him die but it nowhere near what gonna happen to his family, which i will not talk about due to tragic reason.

But his family have nothing to do with this, right? I don’t even expect to see them ever again!

I’ve just realized that because they’ve retreated, the “fateful” battle is now over. I was actually expecting some Esdeath, Seryuu and Wave. With only Bols dead, it feels like the Jaegers have suffered a smaller loss than Night Raid did.

Not really a loss for night raid. As Kurome said she probably won’t be able to find as good replacement bodies. Especially that S class danger beast she found by chance, so they’ve greatly weakened Kurome as well. I count this as Najenda’s win since she lured Esdeath introducing her forces and then picked off the group without Esdeath.

It was great that they managed to lure Esdeath away, but Chelsea was really useful as an assassin… or at least, her Teigu was. In comparison, it doesn’t seem like Bols is relatively dangerous when compared to the rest of the Jaegers – it seemed to me like he was made a target because of his past crimes instead of his threat levels. A weaker Kurome is true though.

Oops typo *lured Esdeath nto splitting her forces
