Zankyou No Terror episode 8, my fair lady.
The first 3 minutes and 53 seconds into this episode I want to punch someone. The cops who went out of their way and left the station to support Shibazaki and Shibazaki are suspended for three months.
For saving lives!
THEY saved lives. I mean I get it, I really do. They broke the rules and left the station when they were ordered not to but they saved hundreds of lives. On top of being suspended, they are taken off the case.
YOU’VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME, THE POLICE IN THIS ARE SO FUCKING STUPID IT HURTS. I get it, i do. I understand chain of command and everything. I honestly get it but this pisses me off so badly. Don’t they understand what these guys did?
Shibazaki who was already in trouble gets suspended for a indefinite amount of time.
Shibazaki says he saw Sphinx with his own eyes, that the bomb wasn’t theirs. Someone was trying to frame them. They make him leave his badge.
BITCH, FUCKING BITCH. FIVE WANTED HIM FIRED. SHE’S A GOD DAMN FUCKING BITCH. Alright, I’m going to calm down for the rest of the post. I think.
So Shibazaki is speaking to one of the higher ups and finds out that Five was transferred from the ISA. The US Intelligence Support Activity special ops unit. The situation here seems to be worse then they assumed.
Lisa awakes to a note telling her not to go outside and then we cut again to Shibazaki who is talking with his daughter. He has a daughter? That’s really cute, I like seeing this side of characters like him.
His daughter studies science and he goes to talk to her about if plutonium can be made into a bomb.
Then we cut to Lisa making mystery food X, I think she seriously just put pocky in curry. The doorbell rings and there is a package for her, does this not raise ANY sort of red flag? How did they know where to ship too? She’s a run away, this is nowhere near her home address. I might of signed for it and taken it but I would of set it outside and waited for Nine and Twelve to come back.
She opens the envelope on the top and it says one word. “BOMB” well I can’t say I didn’t see that one coming. Oh wait, I did! I wonder if it was set to blow anyway and my idea was useless or if there was some kind of trigger.
At least she runs out of the apartment. The whole place blows but on the bright side they don’t have to eat mystery food X.
We cut off to Five where she’s scolded for taking such drastic measures and is told to dial it back a bit. Serves you right…
Nine wants to accelerate the plans a bit but Twelve…wants to stop doing this. Oh I see a bunch of potential for wonderful drama. I also think it has something to do with his relationship with Lisa.
About ten years ago, there was something called the Athena Project that was set to teach gifted children. The members of the Rising Peace Academy spearheaded the project. Now things are starting to come together to make sense. Shibazaki using the fact he’s probably going to be fired anyway and has nothing left to lose so he’s using any means to find out about this project and by extension Sphinx.
I’ll talk about the conflict between Nine and Twelve later, first let’s focus on Shibazaki and the other cop that come to join him. They discuss how they tested all the orphans in the country and gathered gifted children. They go to all the orphanages in the area and ask around, but nobody seems to know where these kids were taken. They are given the business card of one government official that took one of the kids away.
As for Twelve and Nine, the rift between them is obviously due to Twelves emotions towards Lisa. Nine can’t let go of the past where it seems like Twelve has found some kind of future. However, Lisa not wanting to be a continued burden on them runs away from the new HQ leaving behind a note. Five watches her run away and to go with this episodes title we hear the best Engrish she’s had all series of her singing “My fair lady.” to be honest, it’s actually rather creepy. Lisa gets captured by Five who only serves to make me angrier at her. She calls Lisa a useless girl, a burden, says she should of died back in episode one rather then chose to become an accomplice.
Yes, that’s right. Say all of that to the obviously depressed girl who has been all around dejected by society. Go on about how worthless she is. If there is anyone in this series without worth, it’s Five.
Anyway, Twelve plans to follow Lisa when he gets a text showing her as a captive. Despite knowing it’s a trap he heads out to get her against Nine’s requests.
Overall: This episode is heart breaking, it’s a boiling point for a lot of the characters development. Twelve who was always more open then Nine opening up even more and thinking that there may be a life outside of the revenge that they’re trying to get. Shibazaki who has almost lost everything still doing his best to investigate this case as a detective despite not having the status anymore. Nine trying desperately to hold onto all he’s known. Most importantly of all some real insight into the organization that raised the three of them.
I’ve drawn multiple comparisons before between this ‘Athena Project’ and Death Note’s ‘Wammy’s house’ it seems like I wasn’t so far off in my thinking. Taking in abandoned gifted children and stripping them of their old identities is what both of them basically do. It’s rather interesting to see this series take on the people who came out of that program as opposed to the ones from Death Note.
I really can’t wait for the next episode! Though somehow I have a bad feeling they’re going to have a hard time airing it in the US next week.

I found it cruelly ironic that next episode [9] will air on the 11th. :/
And my only qualm with this episode was the package. Seriously, how did Lisa NOT realize it was a bomb?! As soon as the postman guy said, “Package for Mashima Lisa” I assumed she would shut the door in his face and jump out a window or something. No one is supposed to know she’s living there! My second thought was that the package was from her psycho mom who may have stalked her somehow. But again, no one is supposed to know she’s living there! I’m actually really disappointed that she didn’t catch on…
I found it kind of ironic that Five is from America; by showing her and her technicians/soldiers/crew in such a bad light, I think the producers are subtly throwing some dirt at America. The American military is known for sticking its nose in other countries’ business, after all.. xD I’m not really offended, but it seems kind of funny if you think of it that way!
