Akame ga Kill! Episode 13: Kill the Nuisances

Akame ga Kill seems to be sporting more laughs these days! It’s also getting ickier at the same time, especially as those new artificial Danger Beasts are as fugly as hell. Given their humanoid appearance, I’m actually not all that surprised that they were once human -it instead feels like standard fare now- although I do wonder how real Danger Beasts… grow, if that makes sense. Do they even breed and stuff? I’m fairly certain that they have something to do with Dr. Stylish, even if the real meat of the issue is all down to that new guy’s manipulation. The more morbid revelation is perhaps that the Prime Minister wants Esdeath to have some captured and suppressed -as opposed to exterminated- in order to carry out whatever sick experiment he plans to do. I don’t think he said a single word about doing it for the sake of all the people living the capital. And Esdeath wants to hunt them just because they’re strong – again, the fact that there was a couple murdered by these Danger Beasts was treated with more amusement than concern. So ironically, the “evil” Night Raid is the only group looking to hunt down the nuisances for the good of the capital, so that no more lives are taken – I didn’t even think this would be an issue that Night Raid would have to deal with in the first place. It shows through that they’re the real ones with hearts, even if Tatsumi’s ego did suffer a bit of a fall during the process.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that no-one in the capital has a heart – it’s just that following orders tends to prevail over doing the right thing. For Seryuu, those two are one and the same. People like Wave and Bols seem like genuinely nice people, even though Bols says otherwise – at least, his personality doesn’t make me think that he’s sporting an insane grin under his mask whenever he’s using his Teigu, although something tells me the “disease” he committed mass murder for may not have existed at all. It is true, however, that I didn’t suspect someone like Run until he went and revealed himself last episode – it can be hard to tell, but I’m hoping that not everyone in the capital is off the deep end. The irony is that those soldiers were terrified of Bols and yet calmed down upon seeing Seryuu of all people. I still can’t believe he has a beautiful wife and daughter though! He really was telling the truth about that. You’d think of it as a crack pairing if you see it without any context, which is exactly what Lubbock x Najenda sounded like until I heard a bit of backstory. Like Esdeath, it looks like Lubbock’s surprisingly a romantic too!

Speaking of Esdeath-sama, it’s happening at last! I’m very firmly on this ship now, that reunion was hilarious even though it was short. Don’t run away, Tatsumi! Love her back! I actually hoped they’d do some fighting together, but I suppose it’s not bad watching her give an unfortunate Danger Beast a slow and painful death while being all dere to Tatsumi. While he believes he’s in deep shit, I’m only slightly worried for his life despite the ominous foreshadowing that was triggered by Chelsea – something might happen should he try to escape or attack, but I’m sure Esdeath loves him too much to think of killing him. Wonder if that will change if she recognizes Incursio though…
