Another one bites the dust, and unfortunately it’s another blow in the stomach for Night Raid. RIP Bulat ;_; Your manliness will be missed. With members very much capable of (and actually ending up) dying, I sometimes wonder whether Night Raid will ever get any other new inductees apart from Tatsumi – and by that, I’m talking about strong, lasting inductees. I remember them acting as if surviving the first mission is some sort of achievement! Anyway, Bulat went out like a true man – he didn’t hesitate at all during his fight against Liver, with the fact that they were old acquaintances not posing any problems at all. It was a pretty sad death, but in the end I sort of knew it was coming – it wasn’t as much of a shock compared to the rage-inducing way poor Sheele was taken out. And we had time to anticipate it within the episode itself too, since Bulat died from being poisoned instead of through a fatal blow. It’s slightly anticlimactic, but hey. Better than being chewed to pieces by an overgrown dog.
In the end, it was just unfortunate they were on a ship, especially as Incursio was definitely much cooler than Black Marlin was – water never ends up looking that dangerous, even though I know it’s all about the high volume and pressure. I also found it a bit strange that, despite being able to manipulate foreign liquids, Liver never went after anyone else’s blood apart from his own. The mechanics of his Teigu means he should be able to, but I suppose he’d end up being more overpowered than onii-sama if he could end all his battles by removing his opponent’s blood from within their body. And his reasons for joining Esdeath seemed a bit odd, if only because I expected the sadistic Esdeath to have put him through an Orwellian, Room 101-style ideological reformation session. I sort of understand that he’d get the power he’d never have if he worked against the system, but I thought he’d find it beneath him when considering its wider implications. I definitely didn’t think he’d be secretly idolizing Esdeath.
If Bulat was going to die this episode, I figured that Tatsumi wouldn’t get out of it alive either unless he managed to get his hands on a Teigu – and there’s nothing better suited for him than Incursio, which he was impressed by from the very start. It’s so cool that he’s finally got one, although I’m a bit sobered by both Bulat’s death and the fact that Tatsumi’s version of Incursio isn’t as fancy (i.e. frilly) as Bulat’s was – especially after the awesome grotesque dragon showed up to begin with and had me thinking that this would be its perpetual form. Oh well. Tatsumi’s gone from being overwhelmed by a weakened Nyau to dominating a powered-up Nyau while barehanded, which is as major a power boost as it gets – he’ll finally be able to properly hold his own against future Teigu-wielding villains. At least he won’t die immediately when he meets Esdeath next week. Tatsumi x Esdeath, anyone?
Interestingly enough, the opponents Night Raid are being pitted against are all Esdeath’s subordinates or people involved with her, instead of Esdeath herself – she’s being built up as a major villain, without too much being revealed all at once beyond several snippets of her power at various times. Next up, there’s this new group of six that Esdeath is forming, presumably to hunt down Night Raid now that her former high-ranking subordinates were all killed by said group at the same time. Seryuu is one of the six, and so is Akame’s sister Kurome – who seemed fairly innocent until I realized she was sitting on a pile of bodies. She’s still surprisingly moe though, and being the fool I am, I’m going to hold hope in her cuteness to the bitter end.
Even while knowing it’s all a lie ;_;
I was really disappointed with this episode, especially when comparing Schere’s sentimental death scene with Braht’s relatively boring death. I mourned him a lot more in the manga!
But anyway, next week’s episode should be really great! And all those characters you see in the preview (except Seryuu, of course) are really cool! 😀
Bulat’s didn’t have as much shock value in comparison, especially as he wasn’t immediately killed in the heat of battle like Sheele was. And as you already knew about it either way, it diminishes things even more!
If they’re cool, I hope they last for a while – instead of fulfilling the “villain of the week” format like many past opponents bar Seryuu have done. They all look strong at least!
Yeah, i seriously can’t hate any other villain more than Seryuu9 except for 1 in the manga, which i sure we will see him have a small cameo in the future). Beside from that, the other ‘bad guy’ of this series is somewhat likeable and some you will feel sorry when they kick the bucket.
Tatsumi x Esdeath is an actual ship in this series, one of the most important plot point.
Don’t worry, Night Raid will have some new member too, and they will last long too( no death will occur for a while from here on)
Man, the upcoming group form by Esdeath will introduce some very likeable character, i so hyper abount them.
Kurome, for me she not very settle, but she is not as insane as Seryuu, she have a very likeable character and an interesting Teigu( quite an opposite effect compare to Akame teigu)
It’s such an intriguing ship, but I feel sort of sorry for Tatsumi at the same time 😀 God knows what Esdeath wants to do with/to him. Likeable characters beyond anyone in Night Raid have been very rare so far, so I’m looking forward to it! And I think you’d have to have really lost it to be more insane than Seryuu. At the moment Kurome feels like a cuter, more immature version of Esdeath.
Tatsumi x Esdeath ftw
Just, when you see her around him, you have to ship them. Just, wow. I love this ship
At times like this, I’m incredibly tempted to give in and take a peek at the manga. That’s what I ended up doing a couple of episodes in to Tokyo Ghoul.
Must… resist…
