DAMN, that was such a intense episode! It wasn’t in your face, but it was definitely there. The tension that was developing over the course of the episode was so thick you could cut it with a knife! I more or less suspect things to become emotional sooner than later given how today I’ve noticed that it felt like there was a rift forming between Haruka and Makoto. It appears that it is heavily related to what the main theme of this series as I have mentioned last week: Careers and what they plan to do after they complete high-school. Makoto doesn’t appear to know exactly what he wants to do yet, he was having trouble filling out the survey himself, where-as Haruka simply wrote (as we all expected) “Free”, but he knows that deep in his heart: he just wants to be able to swim as much as possible, without any pressure on him. Interestingly enough, Haruka was the one who suggested the relay as the main event for the ITSC’s Sprashu Fes.
My god, Sousuke is quite something… He is a sweetheart to those he like, and as ass to those he hates. He showed us today that he is especially protective of his waifu Rin (BFF from Elementary for five years), and hates Haruka for ‘getting in the way’. Geez take a chill pill dude, it was Rin’s decision to jump into the tournament last season! At the same time, he enjoys competing against Haruka, but the thing is: he wants to be superior than him and crush him. When they were swimming against each other today, Haruka got the chills, and even though he wasn’t facing him, he sensed that Sousuke was right with him, and if there’s one thing I sensed during that very moment: Haruka didn’t want to lose against Sousuke- and he just barely won at that.
Without a doubt there are going to be a lot of drama revolving around the characters who are trying to figure out what they want to do, or need to do some soul searching. It is going to hurt like a bitch, but I trust that Free! will be pulling this off without a hitch. Next week it looks like Rei might be approached by another club, encouraging him (who has a lot of brains despite his dorky personality) to leave the swim-club that might come with some benefits for whatever program he is planning to go into after he graduates.
On the more lighter note: It was nice to see Rin wanting to form his own team, and kidnapping dragging Mikoshiba’s little brother, Seijuurou to the event. It was even more hilarious to see that he fell for Gou, just like his brother had- man there’s going to be rivalry there between them kekekekekekeke. No seriously though, we better get to see Mikoshiba again otherwise it will break a lot of hearts, including mine.
NOTICE: Since I will have no internet access for two weeks, Free! Eternal Summer Episode 3 & 4 may be delayed if there is absolutely no one available to fill in for me.
