Wow, this Precure’s 500th Episode! WOW. What a milestone! I wonder if I will ever see the day of the 1000th… Hahahaha.
That said, I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to enjoy this episode. It was utterly adorable.
Now this is the kind of “side-quest” episode I am especially fond of. It was perfectly balanced with having minor characters we only are probably going to see maybe at most ten times throughout the entire series, while carrying over important developments that have occurred the previous episode. Best of all, while “Love/Crush” wasn’t the main theme of the episode, they were sure to show the underlining bits of ‘love’, or more accurately innocent and adorable crushes. Like holy crap, I was not expecting Megumi to be so obvious right off the bat, which is almost funny because she wasn’t even conscious of the real reasoning fueling her actions in the first place (other than she’s a nice person who looks out for others to begin with). It wasn’t until the end of the episode when Yuuko told Megumi she should think more about what she likes and dislikes, and the first thing that crossed her mind was her being embraced by Blue. In response she blushed and wondered why she was feeling ‘weird’. She doesn’t know/understand what she is feeling/experiencing yet, and when she does, it will get very interesting (even more so when Yuuko and Hime catch on very quickly).
I adored Takuma. He was such an precious adorable minor character, and I especially loved how Megumi interacted with him, calling herself Megumiman (Megaman refrence anyone?) and how he acted out as the hero despite everyone (especially Mao) thinking he’s weird and acting stupid. He was still brave to standup against Oresky even though didn’t stand a chance! It was also ridiculiously adorable how happy he was to be the leader of the heroes squad. He so hyped up about it, it made me smile. And this is what the Precures, or rather Megumi really needed this episode. After having faced Phantom who Megumi acknowledge is a powerful opponent, and even having doubts about the three of them (Yuuko, Hime and herself) combined being capable of defeating him. She and the others were being put down by the negative news, even more so when Phantom made it onto the headlines on the Precure Broadcast after going all around the world, taking down every Precure he encounters.
I find that you can almost always count of Oresky to make the episode fun, because he is such a great opponent and you are guaranteed to be entertained by him. Again, they inserted a sweet bit much like they had with Namakeruda during the baseball match where Yuuko had invited Oresky to join them and eat Clams, and he ALMOST accepted the invitation. He was happy to be invited! And then he remembered, “Whoops I have reputation to maintain!” and declined. But as the series goes on, these are the little things I am really going to be looking forward to. It is fun to see the Precure interact with their opponents like this, and I also like that this happening so early on. It reminds me a bit of that episode where Ira temporally had an amnesia and was being taken care of by Rikka, and he developed a soft spot for her. So I look forward to how they will all interact, even more so with the Precure Hunter Phantom, who I know will not be interacting with them like the other trio anytime soon. But I do hope and look forward to the episode if or when that happens.
Another thing I particularly liked about this episode was they (finally!) added more things you can do with the Precure Card- without necessarily being in CG (though there were some noticeable bits when they did add that), which was a nice addition. However, my god- and I can’t be the only one that things this: but Megumi looks ridiculous in her tango outfit- or more accurately, it is the terrible makeup! JUST NO, GET RID OF THAT TERRIBLE LIPSTICK. GOD, IT MAKES ME CRINGE, IT IS SO BAD, oh my god- and I thought the CG of that was bad enough as it is!
We will be seeing the Blue Sky Kingdom next week!!! Man this is going to be a feels episode, especially with it being on mother’s day (and that being it’s theme as well). I look forward to it!
