Even though Tatsuya graciously saved him, it looks like Morisaki’s still got a major stick up his ass – if anything, the resentment’s worsened from the fact that it was a lowly Weed who bailed him out. I doubt his attitude will change any time soon – it’s people like him who epitomize the elitism harboured by Blooms. Tatsuya’s managed to befriend Honoka and Shizuku though, so it’s a start – in fact, I think he’s triggered some sort of a flag with Honoka in particular. Like I mentioned last week, those who are genuinely strong ironically don’t tend to discriminate, and most of the Student Council (plus Mari) fall into that category.
It feels like Mayumi’s very much in control of affairs at the Student Council – she casually gives her subordinates nicknames (I think she hand-picked them to begin with) and didn’t think twice before recommending Tatsuya to the Disciplinary Committee. I still can’t get used to Hanazawa Kana voicing Mayumi, and Nakahara Mai as Suzune sounds slightly different to what I imagined, too. I suppose that’s the thing with light novel adaptations – you get the “voices” for characters in your head “overwritten” in a sense. Mari and Azusa sound perfect though – it’s actually hard to imagine Azusa as a senpai at all, especially when Tatsuya’s able to scare her into talking by staring at her. I love how Miyuki didn’t think he was joking about being her lover, and actually looked disappointed when he deadpanned it. Tatsuya, you so funny!
All joking aside, Miyuki’s love for her onii-sama includes a desire to see his abilities acknowledged, which was why she volunteered Tatsuya up to join the Student Council as well. Both Miyuki and Mayumi were far more excited about him being in the Disciplinary Committee than Tatsuya himself was – he really, really didn’t want to join, and thus increase the likelihood of a situation where he would have to reveal his powers. And aside from that, there are other plausible reasons too, other than the fact that a Course 2 student’s presence would be breaking unwritten traditions. The fact that they have to maintain order through using magic is sort of contrary to what a Course 2 student should be capable of in the first place – they’re skills Tatsuya ostensibly should not have. Then again, Tatsuya isn’t your average Weed, no matter how much he might try to hide it.
Hattori was a douche. He had the word elitism stamped across his face, and it was easy to tell once he ignored Tatsuya completely and only introduced himself to Miyuki. Tatsuya pretty much stood there and took some verbal insults until Hattori started directing them to Miyuki instead – and to Tatsuya, it’s worth revealing a few secrets if he can defend Miyuki’s honour. Although Hattori acted really uppity when Tatsuya challenged him, it wasn’t exactly baseless arrogance – everyone there was surprised, too. You have to be among the strongest to be in the Student Council (they accepted Miyuki as the most powerful first-year student) and above all, Tatsuya’s processing speed with his activation sequences should be much slower than Hattori’s, especially given that the latter is in Course 1. And it is – we saw that with the training exercise he did with Erika, Leo and Mizuki.
But hey, he won anyway! And he definitely knocked Hattori down a peg or two with that instant kill. That’s one of the weaknesses of magic, actually – in the time it takes to complete an activation sequence, you’re left vulnerable to any and all physical skills, including martial arts. It almost felt anticlimactic… but come on, did you really expect anything less from him? Is he badass? Yup. Is he overpowered? Won’t deny that.
But it felt satisfying, right?
