I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed how slow and boring this episode turned out to be. Nothing much happened, but they did drop a few hints of what to expect in the future, and gave us a quick glimpse at the darker sides of our loveable Gods. They also introduced two more Gods, (Thor and Dionysos) who I do wonder how big of a role they will be playing. But I get the feeling they are going to be minor characters… Anyways here is the list of the Gods Yui has been entrusted to educated:
Japanese God of the Sea, Susanoo
Norse God of Light, Baldr
Norse God of Fire, Loki
Norse God of Thunder, Thor,
Greek God of the Underworld, Hades
Greek God of fertility, Dionysos
Greek God of the Sun, Apollon
I don’t know about you, but I have become very wary of Baldr’s character even seen I seen him have the “evil eyes” at Apollon and appears to be jealous that Yui has been spending time with him. The first thing that hit me when I saw that darker face was that he reminded me of Yunoki from La Corda d’Oro. I am sensing very similar vibes from him and am now more or less expecting to see a darker and crueler side of him. I don’t see him as an innocent, clumsy beautiful man anymore. I see him as a potential threat for the future events. That said, I do wonder if he has something against Apollon…
Speaking of Apollon, my goodness it is no surprise to see him being the student’s representative. He is perfect for the role because of how enthusiastic he is about the experience of learning more about Humans. Much to my surprise, Apollon has grown on me very quickly (faster than I expected actually). It is a funny situation because usually, I am not entirely fond of his type of character, but he is so freaking cute it’s adorable. It was a relief to see that Apollon wasn’t crazy enough to try to kiss Yui on th elips, but had only gave her a quick peck on the cheek. It was cute because he considers that being polite, but quickly apologizes when Yui explains that type of greeting isn’t common or used in her culture. He also had quickly nicknamed her Fairy because she is lovely, ahaha!
Of all the Gods, I am most excited to see Yui and Hades interact more. Hades doesn’t have much screen-time and seems to be actually a sweet character because he is always warning Yui not to get near him (because she will become miserable). I mean, if he didn’t give two shits about the whole contagious misery dilemma he would be going around not bothering to warn people (but Hades was never truly evil to begin with- I mean hell! Of all the Greek Gods, Hades is like the only sane one of the bunch). I do also wonder if he’s just shy and it’s an excuse to keep Yui away from him… hahaha that would be so cute.
I am going to be honest. I was quite thrown off when I heard Loki was the Norse God of Fire. I mean I knew he was from the Norse Mythology, but I had always thought he was the trickster! I looked it up, but I don’t even know anymore, some say he is, some says he isn’t- and most likely a mix up or something weird shit about Logi.
In the end, while it wasn’t the most exciting or enjoyable episode it did have a couple of humorous moments. It was quite funny what the Gods thought an Opening Ceremony was because they had all sorts of weird ideas. Yui has also as a guardian to look after her. It is a doll named Melissa is a doll who was supposed to be made out of clay but there was a mistake so now Melissa is a plushie (a cute one at that!).
Last thing I wanted mention before I wrap up: While the OP song and sequence was not as weird as the ED (thank god) but I felt that the song (which is fine, really) didn’t seem to flow will with the sequence. Heck, at times the sequence looked as if it were lagging, even though it’s not.
I don’t…I don’t know if I can do this. I thought I’d give this series a try since I do like mythology and the music was nice…but it’s just…there’s too many things pissing me off. But then, I also hated Hakuouki at first (or just Chizuru really), and managed to marathon the first two season of UtaPri the other day (which I refused to watch in front of other people, finding the boy idol business and spontaneous singing absolutely ridiculous, and yet I couldn’t stop watching once I pushed through the first episode…) so maybe I should give it another chance!!?! One more episode. I’ll watch the 3rd episode, but if it doesn’t do anything to wow me then I’m leaving!!
But I’m with you on Hades. I definitely find him to be the most…tolerable, and therefore interesting? I think I’d be happy to see the MC interact with him more in any case, haha.
I am curious, what are the things that are ticking you off in this show?
Well, I guess it’s the usual reverse harem gripes for starters…the guys continuously invading the girl’s personal space and her doing nothing about it (which surprised me a tad since she’s had some martial arts training), then there’s the guys having bland personalities- they’re supposed to be gods, so you’d think at least one or two of them would be a little more…I dunno. Godly. But all I see are a bunch of weirdoes who act the way they do because that’s what their character archetype demands. The homoerotic vibes from the first episode aren’t really helping either.
The other stuff bothering me is more of a personal opinion- like why is Zeus the head honcho who gets to decide things? He may be the top dog in his religion, but some of the gods he dragged into this should be of the same caliber- or there are at least some gods from the other religions who could have stopped him for screwing with their underlings. And I just don’t see any of these gods being more out of touch with humans than Zeus would be. It is just because he had a kid with a human? Bah. And why high-school? Why a teenage girl, who couldn’t possibly mature enough in body or mind to teach a god anything? Why not a collage student at least? Baaah. But I know, that wouldn’t fit with the target audience buying the original games.
There’s more stuff, but it just gets more and more trivial as I get more and more irritated DX I’m clearly thinking too much. It really seems like these otome game adaptions just aren’t for me, and yet I keep trying to watch them.
Yeah I was surprised too, I was totally convinced last week that she was going to give him a good punch or kick- that would have been fun to see. TT v TT
I understand where you’re coming from though.
Um, is it just me or Dionysos just looks like Mikoto from K?
I’m glad that Apollon is more like a cute puppy rather than a flirty guy. Baldr’s creepy though, it’s like he’s very possessive to a girl… uh… he just met -_-a
I TOTALLY AGREE! XD
Yeah Baldr is someone to keep a close eye on. DON’T TRUST HIM.
