I actually succeeded making a collage for the Spring 2014 Anime Banner! I usually suck at collages so I tend to avoid them at all cost because I’m a neat freak where everything has to look accordingly- but I managed to make one this time round, and it turned out pretty good. You can also pinpoint the exact moment when I got too lazy so LMFAO. And a quick shout-out of thanks to Vantage for helping me put the post together.
After the relatively disappointing Winter 2014 Season, will Spring liven things up again?
Without any further ado, lets get started!

But the road is long, and an army of evil Stand Users wait to kill Jojo and his friends…
Team Impression
Eva: Once again, passing Jojo.
Vantage: Unfortunately, I’m not really a Jojo person.
Chris: I’ve never watched anything Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure before…which is bad considering the fact that it’s one of the best selling manga in Japan…ever.
Oki: I’ll give it a shot for one of my friends LOL
Sidekick: No one here likes Jojo? It’s okay! You guys aren’t…weird or anything. As for me though ORAORAORA
MidnightDevont: I have ABSOLUTELY no interest at ALL in JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure. I’ve watched a little bit of it and It is absolutely not my cup of tea. I’ll gracefully and with a look of “nope nope nope” on my face, bow out of this one.
Charl Meister: Pass.
Omoikane: I’m sure Jojo is a “manly” show and all but anime that combine a shonen flair with over the top comedic antics tend not to impress me. Not to mention the art style is kinda meh….? Maybe if you like the “classic” art style that harks back to the bygone “golden ages” of anime….

Soul Eater Not!
Animation Company: BONES
Website: http://souleaternot.tv/
Genres: Action, Comedy, Supernatural
Airing Date: April 4th 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: Soul Eater Not! is a side-story to the main series, focusing on a freshman halberd named Tsugumi Harudori, who befriends two other meisters, Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn. All three take part in the NOT (Normally Overcome Target) class at DWMA and learn to control their powers in order to overcome their difficulties to have a normal life, as opposed to the battle-oriented EAT (Especially Advanced Talent) class taken by Maka, Soul, and their companions.
Team Impression
Eva: I could never quite get into Soul Eater, so I will probably end up passing this one.
Vantage: Despite Soul Eater occupying a fairly mainstream status within today’s modern anime climate, I’ve never watched it.
Chris: I’ve always wanted to, but I’ve just never had the time to watch Soul Eater…again, pretty naughty of me. That said, I probably wouldn’t have covered this anyway…it’s a bit too…pink.
Oki: The spinoff never really interested me because it’s NOT soul eater. Eh? Ehhhhhh??
Sidekick: I didn’t like the original Soul Eater, it was just a case of style over zero substance for me. This one looks worse than the original, since they actually replace the style for the cute girls gimmick.
MidnightDevont: I did love the original Soul Eater and I read the first couple chapters of Soul Eater Not. I’ve actually be rather interested since I heard this was getting an anime.
Charl Meister: Soul Eater is still on my list.
Omoikane: Well,I never really bothered with the original Soul Eater. I really doubt a moefied side story that seems to play up the “cute girls doing cute things” trope at its core will catch my interest. If it does happen to prove it’s more than that, I still wouldn’t watch it because the terrible subpar “moe” character designs would prevent me from taking it seriously(Studio Bones, moe will never be your strength…)

Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin
Animation Company: A-1 Pictures
Website: http://www.nanana.tv/
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Airing Date: April 10th 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: The story centers around the treasure of Nanana, a ghost who was once a beautiful but NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) girl. A boy named Juugo was disowned by his father and forced to transfer to a high school on the “Special Student Zone,” an artificial island. With only 40,000 yen a month to live on, Juugo chooses a low-rent apartment that happens to be haunted by Nanana. Juugo and members of the school’s adventure club join a “treasure hunt royale” on the island for the Nanana Collection, a treasure that possesses a mysterious power.
Team Impression
Eva: It certainly sounds like an amusing storyline! I would definitely like to see where this could go!
Vantage: The premise for this is interesting enough, but you’ve got a mixed bag with A-1 Pictures. While they can produce some good stuff, they can be right bastards at times (recent examples including Magi S1 and Galilei Donna). At the very least, there’s no harm in trying this.
Chris: With an animation company such as A-1 Pictures attached (they having produced some of (in my opinion) the best, or, at least, the most influential, anime of all time (Shin Sekai Yori, Sword Art Online, Anohana, to name a few), I have high hopes for this – what with it being a combination of some of (in my opinion) the best genres to mix of all time…yeah, I’ll sign up for this.
Oki: Ooooh it looks adorable, I’d give it a shot!
Sidekick: This is probably destined to be the shit noitaminA anime of the season
MidnightDevont: Looks pretty cute but it’s not really my type of anime. I think i’ll take a pass on this one.
Charl Meister: 40,000 yen a month?? The struggle. This isn’t something I’d watch though.
Omoikane: Is this one of those generic light novel adaptations? I mean you can just tell by the art.You can’t really stray away from the light novel character designs can you…? It doesn’t matter if A-1 is behind this work. Light novel adaptations are the bane of the industry. I feel like my brain is melting when I read the premise.

Website: http://www.vap.co.jp/gokukoku/

Airing Date: April 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: When he was a child, Murakami was infatuated with a girl he called Kuroneko. She insisted on knowing about aliens and having met them, but no one believed her, even young Murakami was skeptical. One day, she decides to show him the aliens, but an accident occurs and Kuroneko dies while Murakami is left seriously wounded in the hospital. Years go by and Murakami obsesses on finding proof of the existence of aliens because of a promise he had made with Kuroneko. Then, one day, a new transfer student comes to his class, who not only looks a lot like Kuroneko, but is named Kurohaneko! And even though she insists on never having met Murakami before, the girl has superhuman strength and seems to even be able to predict the future! How will Murakami’s life change now that he has been saved by this mysterious girl that claims to be a magician?
Team Impression
Eva: The premise is certainly intriguing and has my attention, but looking deeper into the background of this show I know it would be in my best interest to stay away from this title. It’s mainly because the author of the manga is Lynn Okamoto who did Elfen Lied (and we know gory that one is…) Depending on how things play out, I may or may not watch this in the future.
Vantage: Although I’m pretty apathetic towards the synopsis itself, it’s probably worth looking into this if only because of Okamoto’s credentials. While reputation doesn’t always make or break, it goes a hell of a long way.
Chris: ARMS? I’m expecting a lot of fan service…wait! Drop everything. Lynn Okamoto? Author of Elfen Lied? The very first anime that I ever watched with the knowledge that it was an anime? Ha! Color me interested!
Oki: This looks THE ELFEN LIED CHICK DID THIS ? /throws tv/ AWAY TO GORE ADVENTURE BOOB LAND!!!
Sidekick: Low to moderate expectations for this title.
MidnightDevont: Well the first thing that caught my interest about this was the art, I just got around to reading the plot and that sounds interesting enough. Then I noticed people talking about how it’s written by the person who wrote Elfen Lied. Welp, now I’m sold. I loved Elfen Lied, I love this art style, I love the story concept. I think i’ll sign up for this one.
Charl Meister: I could probably give this a shot.
Omoikane: To be honest, from the previews, this anime could go either ways. It does seem to hint at an interesting plotline yet that could be grossly misleading and the anime could just as fast revert to normal high school antics with the supernatural aspects completely ignored as most of them tend to do.

One day, Ene messes with Shintaro’s PC which causes him to go outside for the first time in two years.
Team Impression
Eva: I have had a lot of people tell me just how amazing this is and are super psyched about it. Color me interested, I am curious to see what makes it so amazing! For the sake Kagerou Project’s fandom, of I hope the adaption will do it justice.
Vantage: This sounds intriguing… and weirdly abstract (I love how HikiNEET is now an acceptable portmanteau!) Although I know next to nothing about Kagerou Project, I’ll still try this out in respect for SHAFT’s credentials.
Chris: It is SHAFT…but, it’s also based on a Vocaloid Song series… I’ll watch it, but I’ve never seen anything like it, to be honest, and so I’ll watch with a humble heart and eager eyes to see whether or not the adaptation will work…
Oki: It looks cute but I’m ….not….sure I have….no idea
Sidekick: The concept is interesting, aside from that NEET stuff. Why the hell not?
MidnightDevont: The plot sounds really interesting and I do love me some Vocaloid….So I think I’ll check this one out.
Charl Meister: Sounds interesting enough so let me see how it goes.
Omoikane: Kagerou Project songs are quite good and the storyline seems fairly well developed. However!..I am somewhat cautious in my expectations since I don’t really like Shaft’s personal touches in animation. They did ruin Nisekoi after all….

Kiniro no Corda: Blue♪Sky

Genres: Music, Shoujo, School
Airing Date: April 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: N/A Where the heck is it?????
Team Impression
Eva: I am actually surprised how long it took for this one to get a proper series adaption. This series can be a hit or miss, depending on the material they are adapting. There are three options: Original Game Storyline, Linden Hall no Aria or Kiniro no Corda: Blue♪Sky manga (I’m leaning more towards the latter). That said, I do wonder which storyline they are going to follow. Unfortunately I can’t help but be wary because there are a lot of characters (12 candidates for love) and *SOBS* last time they ended the anime adaption with an open-ending and missed out on all the good parts after the concour At least the manga had a canon ending! WHICH IS WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT! La Corda d’oro Recommendation post coming soon! Regardless of it’s history, I am willing to give this a whirl, I mean, I am a a huge Corda fan, how could I possibly ignore this? Whoops that got long.
Vantage: Not my cup of tea.
Chris: Ah, pretty boy anime – making girls squeal over androgynous hair flicks, smiles, and freakishly colored hair…no.
Oki: We know how I feel about no boobies being emphasized NO BOOBIES also It seems kind of generic? It might be amazing but. I dunno, unless the first episode impresses me I can’t say I’m interested?
Sidekick: I liked La Corda D’Oro when I first watched it. I was about the age of 13.
MidnightDevont: Lots of hot men, a bunch of hot men….but it sounds like it wouldn’t be my kind of thing. No thanks.
Charl Meister: My eyes! My poor damn eyes and the dazzling beauty of these characters! But not really something I see myself sitting down to watch.
Omoikane: Hm…..I might watch a few episodes of this because I didn’t mind La Corda D’Oro (in fact I quite enjoyed it at the time) and I’m a fan of classical and neoclassical music. La Corda D’Oro had some very nice orchestral tracks so it may be worth sitting through the otome tropes of Blue Sky. Maybe…?

Vantage: Not happening.
Chris: Two minutes long? Music? Slice of Life? Count me out…
Oki: Aw it looked like Crayon Shin Chan but is mostly IdolMaster, not interested then.
Sidekick: Not interested in the idolm@ster franchise.
MidnightDevont: So uh…yeah no, I only could watch like the first episode of IdolMaster.

Team Impression
Eva: Sorry, but the summary itself is an automatic turn off for me. I don’t even care about it being a romantic comedy, I just lost all my interest right then and there. :
Vantage: Sakurasou, from quite a few seasons ago had a similarly perverted and hopeless vibe to its synopsis, and turned out to be incredible. All things considered… that was a one off. Sorry.
Chris: You see, every season another romantic-comedy comes along promising me a new twist on the genre, flecking the cliches with new and exciting ideas at every turn… Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou doesn’t even offer me that… And why does his roommate like under-aged girls?! Please, keep this pedophile away from my viewing experience.
Oki: It looks cute but just not like it’s for me.
Sidekick: The synopsis is a complete turn-off.
MidnightDevont: Wow, i read a few sentences and said NOPE, NOPE! Can I say, nope?
Charl Meister: We all can predict how this is going to turn out. Not interested.

Summary: Continuation of Fairy Tail.

Eva: IT’S BACCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!! OH MAN I’M SO HAPPY AND EXCITED AND ALSKJDALKSJDLASKJD!!! Best of all they are upgrading the quality since they switched up the animation team I hear, (or something along the lines) AND IT LOOKS FANTASTIC. I am definitely tempted to cover it, but I will have to wait and see! IT IS GOING TO BE SO BADASS!!!! BRACE YOURSELVES, THE FEELS WAVE IS COMING.
Vantage: Exciting stuff! While I’m not interested in blogging this at all, I’m definitely sticking around to watch the recent arcs in animated form. Really digging those new character designs too!
Chris: When I saw the Fairy Tail was returning, my heart skipped a beat. I’ve heard that they even have new art designs for each of the characters, so that’ll be interesting. Let’s just hope that there’s not too much filler this time around…
Oki: I’ll definitely be watching!!! Sign me up for backwards commentary when Eva’s out MY GURL OH MUH GURD
Sidekick: I’m no anime hipster, but Fairy Tail is just….it’s generic. Good for the fans though.
MidnightDevont: Never caught up to where the original one was, I’ll back out of this one, but I DO love me some FT.
Charl Meister: OoO~! *sobs* It’s true…it’s not a lie *dabs at eyes with tissues* it’s really coming back…I’M FIRED UP!! Laxus, Jellal, Erza, Natsu…Grey dogpile on me!!

Summary: “Mahou Shoujo Taisen” is a project created from a variety show for the Otaku “2.5 Chigen TV” (2.5 Dimension TV). The characters are the mahou shoujo that represents each local town in Japan. The characters that won from the second illustration competitions that were held on pixiv will appear in the anime.
Team Impression
Eva: I can’t say much other than the fact I love the art. It will be something I will have to check out the first episode to see what it will be about. All we know right now, it is going to revolve around magic.
Vantage: It’s colourful, and it’s Gainax, but… I dunno.
Chris: So…w-what’s the plot, exactly?
Oki: Pretty pretty neko princess who knows I love pretty girls maybe.
Sidekick: It’s Gainax’s first mahou shoujo anime. They haven’t been the best since Gurren Lagann and PSG but they could have a comeback…I guess. And a sausage fest working on a girly series could turn out good. Look at Kare Kano! (ok that one is too old to be a valid example but you get my point)
MidnightDevont: Gainax and Magical Girls? D: How should I feel about this. It could be fantastic….it could be horrid. I’ll give watching it a shot.
Charl Meister: LOL, I’ve got the same question @Chris
Omoikane: At least Gainax is giving a chance for online artists to have their art recognized in an anime. It seems like a rather forgettable anime though. If it’s created from a variety show aimed at otakus, it probably isn’t that well thought out and most likely won’t be that good…

Supernatural power became a technology systematized through magic, while magic became a technical skill. A “Supernatural Power User” became a “Magic Technician.” Magic Technicians (in short, Magicians) are nurtured through Magic High Schools and Universities.
This is a story about: Tatsuya, a defective elder brother low achiever. Miyuki, a perfect, flawless younger sister high achiever. After both siblings entered a Magic High School, The stage of daily turbulence was unveiled—.
Team Impression
Eva: EEEE! So excited! I am crossing my fingers for this one to good unlike Mahou Sensou (ughhhh hated that one)... Gimme quality MAGIC shows! *SOBS* Please be good, so much potential!
(NOOOOOO VANTAGE SHOTGUN’D IT, DAMNIT ALLLLLLLLLLL!!!! *SHAKES FIST*)
Vantage: I’ve got really high hopes for this, especially as I’ve been familiar with the novels for some time. I’m not going to lie – it draws several parallels with SAO, the main one being its mixed public opinion. The novels are very popular, but alongside that there’s a heap of criticism (sadly, for similar reasons), and I’m expecting this to be the same for the adaptation. That being said, I still think it’s great! It does avoid some of SAO’s pitfalls, and if nothing else, it’ll still be an entertaining, and surprisingly technical magic action series (also, Mayumi best girl).
Chris: Honestly, this is one of the anime that I’m most looking forward to this season. It has an interesting premise, offering what I’m gleaning as a dissection of the ‘magic’ genre in anime, layering it in sweet sweet romance, with a science-fiction school setting…plus it’s popular. And, by the laws of entertainment, anything that is popular must in some way be interesting…
Oki: FUCKIMG VANTAHEFB SMA JESUS UFHLGKHKJHKF I JUST UFDJFS N I WILL WATCH THIS SHIT OKAY
Sidekick: Get that brother sister bullshit out of my face
MidnightDevont: Well uh, it’s been shotgunned but I might check out some of the episodes without reviewing.
Charl Meister: The only anime so far, besides the continuation of Fairy Tail, that I’d really like to see.
Omoikane: You know what’s probably going to be the biggest difference between this and Mahou Sensou of the winter 2014 season? THE INCEST TWIST! All these light novel adaptations make me want to flip a table or something…

In this world trapped in darkness— Rentaro, a boy living near Tokyo and member of the “Civil Security”—an organization specializing in fighting against the Gastrea—is used to accomplishing dangerous tasks. His partner is Enju, a precocious young girl. They fight thanks to their peculiar powers until one day, when they receive a special assignment from the government. This top secret mission is to prevent the destruction of Tokyo… Set in a near future, this thrilling heroic-action story… starts now!
Team Impression
Eva: I am not going to lie, when I first saw the trailer the first thing that it reminded me of was Guilty Crown. Without a doubt it is because of the colors, contrasts and even the promo poster itself. The premise sounds like it’s going to be a potentially exciting action-packed show so I am certainly willing to take a look.
Vantage: An oppressive dystopia for a setting, huh… it’d better have some good world-building. I’d definitely prefer more of that over the action to be honest – a dystopia that’s not thought out properly won’t be very good at all no matter how many guns the protagonist has.
Chris: Look – ever since I finished watching Shin Sekai Yori (one of my favorite anime series, with a convincing, well thought out, dystopian setting) I’ve come to dislike what I label ‘weak dystopia’, that is, dystopia lacking in any real plot or meaning other than, what I label, ‘dystopia for dystopia’s sake’…that said, the light novel cover for volume one of Black Bullet looks really nice, so…
Oki: Oh what’s this? Interest? Love? SEINEN? Yes. all for me seinen girls.
Sidekick: It’s Seinen, could be decent. Alternatively, it could easily also turn out to be absolute shit.
MidnightDevont: This one looks rather interesting, I might want to pop in and check this one out. I do enjoy Seinen shows usually.
Charl Meister: Ooooh, okay I’m feelin this.
Omoikane: Hm….how gritty and dark will this show get? If it’s not grimdark enough, then it’s rather forgettable. But a middle school aged girl crushing a gargantuan insect with just her bare feet? Entertainment at its finest!

Eva: I know A LOT of people waiting for this manga to get adapted. It’s finally happening, A VOLLEYBALL ANIME!
Vantage: Haha, sports.
Chris: Apparently the manga is confusing due to the mangaka’s inability to properly put across the rules and the positions in a cogent manner? Hopefully the anime will make it easier. Oh! And I’m hoping for an underlying plot – nothing worse than ‘sport’s for sport’s sake’…
Oki: spooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo- no fuck sports.
Sidekick: The manga, from what I’ve read, is a pretty generic (but still mildy entertaining) series. Given my bias towards sports anime with lots of BL vibes though I’ll at least check out the first 3 episodes. A Quick Look post is a definite. Hope the pacing won’t be shit like YowaPeda.
MidnightDevont: Sports Show, I’ve watched a total of….like…two or three sports anime ever. So um, no thank you.

Summary: Cocoa arrives at the cafe Rabbit House one day, excited for rabbits. She actually all but lives in that cafe. She meets lots of different girls there, including a tiny and cool girl named Chino, a tough and soldier-esque girl named Lize, a spacey and quintessentially Japanese girl named Chiyo, and the ordinary but dignified Sharo.
Team Impression
Eva: ….. *STARES* Like the rest of the team, I have become skeptical and wary of what White Fox has been producing as of the late. It sounds cute and simple- the moe factor is probably going to be strong in this one. That said, the characters designs are adorable…
Vantage: White Fox let me down last season with Super Sonico, although it’s arguable that the show was doomed from the start regardless of what studio picked it up. It could have been ufotable and it’d still have failed. Anyway, this looks strange… hmm… eh… okay fine, I’ll sign up for the stupid thing.
Chris: I have a love/hate relationship with White Fox…and this looks like something I’m going to dislike very much so… Cute girls doing cute things? Definitely not something I can blog about…
Oki: throws a fucking truck at moe shows do you think i want to cover this i fucking dont get the fuck out of my sight white fox
Sidekick: I’m not really a rabbit person.
MidnightDevont: No thank you, it looks like it might make me puke sparkles. I’m not a fan of puking sparkles.
Charl Meister: Rabbits? :3 The cuteness factor is almost turnt in this one.
Omoikane: One highly commercialized fanservice, pandering anime(Super Sonico) won’t ruin White Fox’s otherwise very solid track record for me.I’m really interested to see how White Fox will handle the SOL yonkoma genre as they never really did anything like it before. They got the moe art down but let’s see how they handle the comedic deliveries.

He has seen this rainbow before. With the memories of his father’s mysterious death and an encounter of a mysterious boy and girl, Daiji arrives on the island while the alarm of a building labeled “Earth Engine” is going off. Someone asks him “Are you a captain?” just as robotic intruders from Uranus called “Kiltgang” arrive. The battle around the shining stars is about to begin.
Team Impression
Eva: I am crossing my fingers this will be a success because I wasn’t a big fan of Star Driver (and this show is being produced by the same team), and I can’t help but be on the fence because of their past works. For me, this is a hit or miss situation. BUT DAT ANIMATION QUALITY in the PV! At least we know it should be at least visually fun to watch. Regardless of my skepticism, I am willing to give this a shot.
Vantage: This’ll probably be rather crazy – but hey, so was Star Driver and its cast of galactic pretty boys. Looking interesting!
Chris: I have extremely high hopes for Captain Earth…that said, child that I am, when I read the line “intruders from Uranus” in the summary I couldn’t help but smile. Also, Captain Planet. That is all.
Oki: OH MY GOD I REALLY NEED A SERIOUS MECHA AFTER SPACE DANDY NGGNGNNGHGHNGNHGHGNGHNGHGNGHGN
Sidekick: The first PV is impressive. I’m excited. I hope it doesn’t turn out like Star Driver though, that got repetitive and bland FAST.
MidnightDevont: Mecha….unless there is yoai or comedy attached to it…no thank you.
Charl Meister: I am reminded of Captain Planet. I’ll just read what the others have to say about this before I watch. I’ve never been a mecha fan.
Omoikane: This kind of reminds me of Space Dandy. I don’t like Space Dandy…

Eva: It has all the genre ingredients that I love so much, but the question is: will the story be any good? Well I suppose I should have a bit more faith since I have heard good things about it (though it’s certainly not the most original idea around). It certainly wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
Vantage: Eh. I’m not feeling it… maybe I’ll try this if everyone else says it’s good.
Chris: Damn all of these ideas stole from other anime! I’m afraid to push this aside in case it is in fact good, but I’m not going to blog it – no way.
Oki: Eva what the fuck is this a love letter to us?????? This season is just like catered to maybe be our lovers idk.
Sidekick: Maaaaaaybe. It’s BONES, I doubt it’ll be /horrible/.
MidnightDevont: hmmm, it sounds interesting and it IS BONES, which means it probably will be decent at the very least. I’ll start watching it maybe.
Charl Meister: Another interesting premise. I can watch this, but I doubt I could blog about it.
Omoikane: It’s hard to blog about something you don’t care for in the slightest.I will give it the 3 ep rule though…

Eva: …. No thanks, I will be passing this one. There are plenty of other mecha animes to look forward to this season. I already know I wouldn’t enjoy this.
Vantage: No.
Chris: Weak mecha…not much worse than that…
Oki: i will never fucking cover a comedy mecha again
Sidekick: I’ll give the first few episodes a try. Might get a post up if it’s good. I doubt it though.
MidnightDevont: A comedy Mecha….those are some of the few I can handle. However, this sounds like something I wouldn’t enjoy.
Charl Meister: That poster looks like some weird mecha cult business.

Fuuun Ishin Dai Shogun
Animation Company: J.C. Staff
Website: http://daishogun-anime.jp/
Genres: Action, Historical, Mecha
Airing Date: April 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: In the late Edo period, Japan had experienced an unprecedented crisis by Kurofune (Black Ships), the ships from foreign countries. But a giant robot called Onigami, which has existed since ancient time, dispelled the Kurofune ships and the exclusion of foreigners was accomplished. The story begins in Japan where Meiji restoration in 1868 didn’t happen. The tagline says, “I can be the greatest man in the world, because I am a virgin!!”
Team Impression
Eva: ……What the hell? Weird summary. Sounds like it will be very similar to Nobunaga the Fool (which is already crazy enough as it is) with the whole edo era and mechas combined, but have another source for it’s strength. Somehow I wouldn’t be surprised if they tread down the Aquarion EVOL route… In short, I have no idea what to make out of this. I covered Aquarion EVOL, and I temporally covered Nobunaga the Fool, so considering I had my share of wacko mecha series, I think I am under an obligation to have to check this out. But I am not holding my breath for anything special.
Vantage: Originality – because why not? And it still looks more exciting than the mecha show before it.
Chris: J.C. Staff…what is this? I’m actually really interested in this – alternate history anime is one of the most interesting genres out there, but, if not done right, it can be clumsy and awkward. I’ll watch it all right – wait…what?! “I can be the greatest man in the world, because I am a virgin!!”…tell me you’re joking? Jesus Christ…I’ll watch it. That is all.
Oki: Historical…mecha? NO, I REFUSE NO
Sidekick: The tagline…just…no. JC Staff are finally branching out to stuff that isn’t generic LN#654o7864 though. That’s gotta count for something.
MidnightDevont: MECHA!!!!! -flips table-
Charl Meister: Hmmm, not feeling this at all.
Omoikane: Who makes up these ridiculous storylines? Who approves these ideas to turn into an anime? I don’t know who’s more insane…and that tag…Otakus writing for other otakus. It’s a vicious cycle.

Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: The story of No Game, No Life centers around Sora and Shiro, a brother and sister whose reputations as brilliant NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) hikikomori (shut-in) gamers have spawned urban legends all over the Internet. These two gamers even consider the real world as just another “crappy game.” One day, they are summoned by a boy named “God” to an alternate world. There, God has prohibited war and declared this to be a world where “everything is decided by games”—even national borders. Humanity has been driven back into one remaining city by the other races. Will Sora and Shiro, the good-for-nothing brother and sister, become the “Saviors of Humanity” on this alternate world? “Well, let’s start playing.”

Eva: Just by the summary alone reminded me a lot of Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? While I did enjoy that show, I am definitely on the fence for this one. I will give definitely take a look though.
Vantage: Oooh, shiny. Looks interesting! I’m not sure whether it’ll be akin to Mondaiji like Eva said, or another one of those not-quite-consensual game settings where it’s not really a game and lives are at stake.
Chris: So pretty…so interesting…that said, it lacks any real ‘crutch’ – what is there to lose? What’s at stake? Nothing’s really grabbing my attention, honestly.
Oki: The art catches my eye but the plot falls a little short to be honest.
Sidekick: I’m not really a fan of this art style. And the art style is honestly the only thing going for it, so no.
MidnightDevont: O_o you know, I’m actually pretty interested in this. The art is very pretty, the plot sounds really interesting. I actually want to watch this.
Charl Meister: The beautiful art will not be enough to sway me to watch this.
Omoikane: Even if it becomes like Mondaiji as Eva suggested, I don’t find that a bad thing as Mondaiji was rather entertaining. This show might have decent entertainment value if nothing more and the vibrant art makes the action sequence look quite nifty.

Eva: IT’S ANOTHER TENNIS ANIME, AND IT’S ISN’T THE PRINCE OF TENNIS FOR AN EXCHANGE!!!!! Unfortunately it sounds so plain, even the odds of me going a Quick Look seems incredibly slim.
Vantage: I may actually try this, even though it’s a sports show. Maybe.
Chris: Nothing really stands out to me and so I’m really not inclined to blog about this. I’ll watch the first episode.
Oki: ちょう大型 きらい ^o^
Sidekick: I really, really liked what I read from the manga. The main character in particular, E-chan, is absolutely delightful. He’s nothing like the protagonists I’ve ever seen before, and reading the manga was just so refreshing. I don’t even care if it’s got derp animation. Give it to me. (Still I’ve heard that it won’t be a ‘proper’ adaptation of the manga so my expectations are moderate)

Eva: The CG is strong in this one… Either way I’m passing this because the PV gave me the creeps! Hell the Promo Poster itself already gave me the dark vibes… *SHUDDERS*)
Vantage: Hmm. Seems fairly hit and miss for now, but I’ll give it a couple of episodes or something.
Chris: After having my interests piqued, I decided to take a peek at the manga…at which point I chose to indulge in the entire thing… I loved it. And you know what? I think this is going to be an amazing series? The characters, whilst admittedly cliche to a fault at times, are brilliant, and the series encompasses everything a good sci-fi should have, whilst still remaining fresh and interesting. Sign me up!
Oki: Hate this art style

Eva: You know the answer: NEXT.
Vantage: Moving swiftly on.
Chris: So it’s a more mature and sophisticated version of Bakuman, drawing on a content creators need to work with their materials and ultimately exploring humanities numerous vices – lust, love, desire – to create the perfect, if not poetic, diatribe about the bonds that tie use to one another? Charl Meister: Of fucking course the dragon would appear as a beautiful girl *EYEROLL* moving along.
Omoikane: Ash? So this is basically a niche pokemon fanfiction about Ash and his Charizard ,which awakens into a girl who also happens to be his master? Interesting…..

Airing Date: April 5th 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: An adaptation of the manga, Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo – Case Series.
Team Impression
Eva: Sorry not really interested.
Vantage: This is probably airing in the wrong decade to be honest.
Chris: “Wow…the manga started in 1992?” – said Chris as this was the only thing he found even remotely interesting about the anime that lay before him
Oki: Naaaaaaah
Sidekick: I’ll give this a shot. Mystery anime that aren’t Detective Conan are too rare to pass up on.
MidnightDevont: Actually I read this manga when I was a kid. I LOVED this manga when I was a kid. I’m actually surprised that they’re making a new anime all of the sudden. I actually really want to watch this.
Charl Meister: …uh…
Omoikane: I concur. This anime is really out of place in this day and age.

Eva: Ehhhhhh…. I can’t say that I am interested, but I can’t say that I’m not either. I am somewhere in between. I’ll give it a whirl, but I am not holding my breath for this one.
Vantage: I don’t know… it’s just ping pong, but I’m finding the prospect of this (sports) anime strangely fascinating.
Chris: Me and my friend (who only really watches Fairy Tail and knows ultimately nothing about anime) were looking through the Spring 2014 list and when he saw the promo poster for this (alongside the PV) he burst out laughing…I don’t know, the art style and the summary make it feel as though ‘Ping Pong’ (talk about high concept…) is taking itself much too seriously…not my cup of chai tea…
Oki: DO YOU REALLY WANT ME TO GET OUT THE KANJI FOR ULTRA AGAIN CAUSE I’LL DO IT
Sidekick: THIS IS PROBABLY GONNA BE FANTASTIC. I love Yuasa’s signature quirky style, and while I’ve yet to read the manga, Taiyo Matsumoto’s other works have all impressed me thoroughly one way or another. Almost impossible for this to be bad.
MidnightDevont: ….NOPE.
Charl Meister: *sighs*
Omoikane:It’s definitely unique but I wonder how many episodes it will take for the novelty to be completely gone.

Blade and Soul
Animation Company: Gonzo
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/blade/
Genres: Fantasy, Game, Martial Arts
Airing Date: April 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: Anime adaptation of the Korean MMORPG Blade and Soul.
Team Impression
Eva: Admittedly I had extremely low expectations for this show just based off the promo poster (which is stupid really, talk about judging a book by it’s cover). So much to my surprise the PV turned out to be pretty impressive (and had basically no fanservice). The animation was stunning and fluid as hell! I think I will give this show the benefit of the doubt since Gonzo is the one doing the job (as oppose to ARMS). Who knows, as long as it doesn’t take the fanservice route, this could be a hidden gem.
Vantage: Although my opinion of this did improve slightly once Eva convinced me to watch the PV, I’m still sceptical over its MMORPG origins.
Chris: DAT ASS! I respect women, and this continual depiction of them in anime as being sexy, well endowed, and in cold environments is a blatant objectification of their womanly nature – it’s exploitative and I will not stand for it! – said no anime fan ever.
Oki: But ….so pretty art….I……Ill watch an episode. . .
Sidekick: Can we please just get old Gonzo back? Please?
MidnightDevont: I’m gonna go with a pass on this one, however, i’m with Chris. DAT ASS!
Charl Meister: Pretty, but no.
Omoikane: Hm….yeah don’t care for it.Moving on…

Their friend Aki has to work hard to make jabs at some of the situations of the two, and also to stop Inugami from going berserk.

Eva: Sounds cute. Will probably watch, but then forget about after a week or two.
Vantage: Reminds me of Yuyushiki somewhat, which was a great comedy with slight yuri undertones. I’ll give this a go, but it’s probably impossible to blog.
Chris: Not gonna lie, thought that was a guy at the forefront of the promo poster…tee-hee…
Oki: nyoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope.
Sidekick: Cute promo art. By cute I mean kinda uninspiring and forgettable despite being easy on the eyes.
MidnightDevont: A comedy Shojo-Ai….I just finished watching Sakura Trick. I think i’ll just…pass.
Charl Meister: Yuri stuff?? I hardly watch much of these so I’ll give it a try, see where it goes.
Omoikane: I usually give yuri/shoujo ai anime a chance seeing how there used to be so few of them. There has been more lately but who knows when there will be another shortage…

Genres: Game, Psychological
Airing Date: April 2014
Trailers: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Summary: Hope. Desire. Greed. Girls with each of these feelings in their hearts are being swallowed into the vortex of a dangerous game…
Team Impression
Eva: That’s some creepy PV I must say. If that creeps me out enough, then it will probably scare me too much. It looks really good though… Perhaps I can muster up my courage to watch it, but that creepy white thing.. omfg- it’s gonna plague me in my dreams I can tell.
Vantage: Damn, that’s very compelling! I do hope J.C. Staff know what they’re doing with this.
Chris: Very interesting. Steins;Gate‘s Takuya Satō is directing…series composition by Mari Okada (Anohana and Toradora!)…and J.C. Staff animating? Yeah, very, very, very interesting indeed…plus, if the summary leads me to think this show will be as ‘dark’ as I think it’ll be (instead of something like Winx Club like I originally thought it was…), then this will be very good indeed…
Oki: OH SHIT I LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF /throws into shopping cart
Sidekick: Loved the PV, and the staff is pretty solid. I enjoy Mari Okada’s writing when it isn’t about DRAMATIC TEENAGERS DOING DRAMATIC THINGS. JC Staff don’t screw this up.
MidnightDevont: YES, YES. This sounds like just the kind of show that is totally up my ally. Sign me up!
Charl Meister: I’d watch this.
Omoikane: This is Mari Okada’s next anime? Say what you will about her but at her peak, she is a very competent writer. The only thing is she hasn’t written any anime in the dark psychological genre so it will definitely be interesting to see what she can do.This will also get a Kanon Wakeshima opening so there’s that as well.

Summary: Kaori Fujimiya is always alone because all of her happy memories, including time spent with her friends, disappear every Monday. Deciding that he wants to be friends with her anyway, Yuuki Hase tries to get close to Kaori each week, wishing that she would one day call him “a friend.”
Team Impression
Eva: ; ____ ; Oh man, this sounds like a tearjerker that will sometimes either warm or rip out your heart. YOU BET YA I’LL BE WATCHING THIS!
@Vantage: YES I AM GETTING THOSE FEELS.
Vantage: Shit guys… this sounds deep. And depressing. But also really good! Does it remind anyone else of the Chihiro/Renji plot in ef – A Tale of Memories?
Chris: After falling in love with romance manga such as Koe no Katachi and Onani Master Kurosawa, I’ve come to develop a fondness for anything with a deeply intimate plot – something not afraid to explore human emotion in depth. Basically, Isshuukan Friends is the anime I’m most interested in watching and blogging this season.
Oki: Looks cute…a little TOO cute! /unveils curtain/ oh…no its exactly as cute as it seems
Sidekick: Looks adorable. Will definitely watch. I doubt it’ll be anything ground-breaking though, since the synopsis is pretty much the synopsis to the 50 First Dates movie, which I remember nothing about aside from it’s name.
MidnightDevont: This looks….heart breaking. I’ll watch a little bit of it for sure.
Charl Meister: I’d really like to see where this goes.
Omoikane: Ah…it’s one of those anime…the ones that focus on character development, portray genuine human emotions and create tearjerking realistic drama. Brains Base tend to excel at these kinds of anime given its past record with Natsume and to a lesser extent Kuragehime. I’m not too fond of the art style however. The characters look to be middle schoolers despite actually being high schoolers. Also the characters themselves don’t seem too relatable so I don’t think I will be that invested in this.

Eva: WAIT WHAT, SERIOUSLY?! OMFG- YES, COUNT ME IN (AS MUCH AS I LOVE THE ALETIER SERIES, I SUCK AT THE GAMES , MAN- I FAIL SO MUCH IT’S NOT EVEN FUNNY, I still play them though ahahahahaha). Since this is an anime, ABSOLUTELY YES, I am in. I hope it will be good. It is almost a pity that I can’t play the game before the anime (unless there’s a demo I can download) because it’s too pricey for me right now. ; v ; Just so you know the game will be released in North America on March 12th… Aw man and I really want that pre-order costume bonus too…
Vantage: While I’ve never chosen to invest in the Atelier franchise, this looks like a good way to break new ground.
Chris: I’ve always wanted to play the games…but…I don’t know, I guess I just don’t trust video game to anime adaptations any more…call me paranoid…
Oki: Looks good but I dunno I will need to see an episode before I decide if it’s for me.
Sidekick: I liked the Totori and Meruru games, and its premise is better than most game adaptations. Will give this a shot.
MidnightDevont: I’ve heard of the games but never played any of them. I’ll just….step away from this one.
Charl Meister: I’ve never played any of the games and this doesn’t seem like something I’d stay interested in.
Omoikane: I’ve still yet to seen a decent game adaptation.

Eva: Yeah this sounds like a straight-forward comedy. Pass.
Vantage: It looks like it’ll be a standard “cute girls doing cute things” show, but for some reason, I’m not feeling it.
Chris: My children would never forgive me…
Oki: throws fucking bricks at all slice of life moes
Sidekick: This could be the next Love Lab. Too bad it isn’t the Dogakobo team doing this, or I’d be a bit more interested.
MidnightDevont: So…it’s K-on without the few bits of music? No thanks.
Charl Meister: Oh, reminds me a bit of Yuru Yuri. I see this anime will be about nothing but tea and fun.
Omoikane: Even if I had time to waste and I had absolutely nothing to do, I still wouldn’t watch this.

Eva: Ah! Break Blade! up till now it had a whole bunch of movie adaptions. It’s nice to see that it is finally getting a television series. Definitely count me in to check this out- but damn- I actually haven’t had the chance to watch the movies… FFFF—- AND I’VE BEEN MEANING TO SINCE LIKE TWO YEARS AGO. I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MARATHONING THE MOVIES DURING MY HIATUS IN 2012 I CAN’T FUCKING BELIEVE IT- EVA HOW COULD YOU HAVE MISSED OUT ON THE GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY (BLAME KDRAMA) – oh wait maybe this is a good thing because potential spoilers and all… Heheheheh.
Vantage: While I’ve never watched the films, I’m definitely interested in checking this out.
Chris: The PV left me with two thoughts: firstly, ‘action, action, action’, and, secondly, no.
Oki: I’m interested in it because my shit but….is it bad I don’t enjoy fantasy and mecha together? Though it’s not as bad as historical mecha, like sometimes it’s great! But I’m not sure at this one.
Sidekick: Never watched the films but I heard it’s a pretty standard mecha series. I’ll give it a try I guess.
MidnightDevont: Let’s see…Action…okay, Fantasy…k…Mecha…-throws hands up and walks away-
Charl Meister: Not entirely sure about this one. More mecha, and I really am not into the genre that much…yet.

Eva: Is it just me, or does this sound awfully like Black Bullet? This will be interesting… Hopefully the two won’t be too similar (of course it’s the mecha part that is the key difference between the two). Anyhow regardless of the similarities, it looks and sounds good so I will be sure to check it out.
Vantage: Sounds slightly confusing, but it’s an interesting offering from Satelight nonetheless. At least, it’s set itself apart form the pack by being announced very late and airing very late.
Chris: Another Okada series? Somebody had a lot of free time… That aside, this looks like another generic mecha that I’ll watch to see if it does anything different, otherwise not blogging it because…well…you know?
Oki: Coming Soon
Sidekick: Junichi Sato and Mari Okada…? Interesting combo, it definitely warrants a watch.
MidnightDevont: Well I took all of about one look, saw the combination of Mecha and nope, totally nope.
Charl Meister: Coming Soon
Omoikane: Mecha and Okada…? Recently, it seems like Mari Okada has really been experimenting with new genres, not always successfully too. Yet, as someone who admires Okada’s talents, I can not pass the opportunity to see whether she manages to utilize her potential to its full extent especially in a mecha show.

Overall Thoughts
Eva: The fact Spring Seasons always comes pouring in with at least twenty more shows than the Winter/Summer, I can’t say that I am too impressed. Yes there are certainly a handful I am excited for, but at the same time there are a ton that I am on the fence about. A lot of these shows are either going to be a hit or miss. I am hoping there will be more hits for the sake of having more shows to watch compared to the Winter Season. But the bigger question for me is just how many of the “handful” titles I like are going to be bloggable for me. The main titles that I am excited for and will most likely end up blogging (unless already taken) Fairy Tail, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Black Bullet, Kamigami no Asobi, Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii, Escha & Logy no Atelier: Tasogare no Sora no Renkinjutsushi, Break Blade, M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane.
Vantage: If I’m going to be honest, in general this season feels surprisingly bland to me. It really shouldn’t, especially given that Spring is usually a powerhouse season. The quantity’s there, yes, but the overall quality is lacking – for example, even though we’re flooded with moe shows I’m only vaguely interested in one of them at most (the rabbit one). That being said, there are several shows I’m going to be looking out for, including Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Mekaku City Actors, Fairy Tail, Isshuukan Friends, No Game No Life, Selector Infected WIXOSS and Akuma no Riddle. If those turn out great, then this season will do just fine. Either way, you can never really make any conclusive decisions based on pre-impressions, especially as they turn out to be misleading all the time.
Chris: An interesting season. Isshuukan Friends, Fairy Tail, Selector Infected WIXOSS, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Gokukoku no Brynhildr and Date a Live II are the shows that I’m most interested in, they either having the most potential, best background workers/animation companies (giving them a better chance of success), and or simply being shows which proved themselves to me in seasons prior. It’s a great season for moe fans, but if you’re like me and you like at least a little bit of substance, you’re going to be sorely disappointed by the lack of plot heavy shows this season. I guess we can only really hope for a couple ‘big surprises’ to be hidden in the mix…
Oki: For once there are some genuinely interesting things for me this season. Granted there is a bunch of subpar stuff, but I’m excited for all the mecha and sci fi and even some of the ecchi. And that supernatural moe style. . . love that inversion shit. ONWARD! To vanguard!!!
Sidekick: I’m excited for the Spring season! I’m probably not going to finish a single Winter season anime (Samumenco and KLK are Fall leftovers) so yeah, April can’t come sooner. In case you can’t tell from my use of caps in certain portions of the post I’m extremely excited for Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure Part 3, Mushishi Zoku-Shou, Ping-Pong The Animation & Baby Steps. Got moderate to high expectations for the Atelier anime, Haikyuu!, Isshukan Friends, Captain Earth, Selector Infected WIXOSS (the name is stupid as hell though) and Mekaku City Actors. That’s a long ass list considering my track record of being interested in like 2 anime every season. Once again, can’t wait for April.
MidnightDevont: Why is there so much Moe this season? That aside there is actually a lot i’m interested in compared to the winter season in which only one or two shows really grabbed my interest. This is actually going to be a pretty good season for anime, I hope I can find something that gets me really pumped up. I haven’t super Fan-girled over something since I watched Psycho-Pass. Still waiting on that second season. I also would love to blog the Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi movie that’s coming out…..but movies are a different cup of tea all together. Overall this season looks like it’s gonna be much better then last. I’m excited.
Charl Meister: I sat out the last season due to the fact that nothing really grabbed me by the ankles and made me feel comfortable about being dragged off to watch what the Winter season had to offer. The main reason I’m present for Spring is Fairy Tail and also there are a few other titles that have caught my interest. However, nothing has been presented that makes me overly excited to see but there are enough that I’m sure will keep me entertained this season.
Omoikane: People often say that fall and spring tend to be the best seasons for anime. While the former seems true enough,I don’t think I would say the same for the latter(at least not anymore) seeing how it has been getting worse since last year. There are a few solid shows in the mix this spring season as per usual but nothing stands out as being a strong potential darkhorse or sleeper. It’s sad but it’s to be expected seeing how most of the upcoming spring season anime have transparent plots, making it hard to expect anything exceptional in terms of storytelling.Visually there doesn’t seem to be anything innovative or particularly striking. In terms of intriguing plot,I would keep an eye on Mari Okada’s Selector Infected WIXOSS which is an original anime. Mari Okada is more geared towards the slice of life drama anime but it might be interesting to see what she can do in a darker genre. Nevertheless, there are a few such as Mangaka-san,No Game No Life and Isshukan Friends that may prove to be solid shows depending on the execution.
